Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Chavo Cortez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Junior Pike (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cortez kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is All the Above. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cortez misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Chavo Cortez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Pike lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Pike.

Cortez explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

and Pike counters with a shoot takedown. Cortez fights it but they end up in guard.

Cortez wants to get back to his feet but Pike is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Pike feints and as Cortez raises his hands in defense, Pike changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Pike throws a strike but Cortez rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Pike is trying to control the position but Cortez postures up.

Pike throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Pike is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Pike controls Cortez momentarily but Cortez frees himself.

Pike had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Cortez is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Pike Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Cortez's back instead.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Pike somehow managing to miss with a strike from the back.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Pike lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Pike looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
No joy there for Cortez, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Cortez moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

Pike has taken the fight to the clinch.
Cortez wants to break free but Pike has control.
Pike is trying to drag Cortez to the mat but Cortez just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Cortez is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Cortez is looking to break free of the clinch but Pike has double underhooks.
Pike tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Cortez smiles and moves away.
Chavo Cortez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Junior Pike.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Pike looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Cortez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Pike on the ground.

Pike looking to control but Cortez is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Pike has hold of Cortez's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Cortez manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Cortez is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Pike fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Pike wants to control but Cortez has made it back to half guard. Nice work.

Pike wants to work for an arm triangle but Cortez is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Pike shoots in and drives through. Cortez sprawls well.

Junior Pike showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Cortez is looking to break free of the clinch but Pike has double underhooks.

Pike pulls guard successfully.

Pike has his foot on Cortez's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Cortez works his way back into a safe position though.

Pike has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Cortez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Cortez stands and steps away. Pike gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Cortez rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Pike moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Pike manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Pike sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Junior Pike is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
