Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Awut Smith (ranked 1636 p4p, 75 weight class) and Gosha Lopez (ranked 2019 p4p, 44 weight class). Smith kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Ladies and Gentlemen. Lopez has chosen Sho Z-pod duba as his entrance music. Awut Smith has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Awut Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Gosha Lopez!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Lopez.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Lopez! But no joy.
Lopez misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Smith counters with a crisp one two that drops Lopez! Smith thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Lopez to his feet! Lopez is in big trouble!
Lopez is rocked!
Smith throws a nice looking combination but Lopez bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Lopez clinches up with Smith and pushes him back against the cage.

Lopez jumps guard but Smith stands there with Lopez around his waist. Lopez gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Lopez tries to pull guard but Smith won't allow it.

Lopez has Smith pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Smith manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Lopez jumps guard and drags Smith to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Smith got a little sloppy there for a moment and Lopez has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Smith has managed to get both his arms back between Lopez's legs - danger averted.
Lopez had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Smith defends it easily.
Smith is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Star Studded Beef that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Lopez is trying to maintain the position but Smith is very close to passing his half guard.

Awut Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Lopez shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Lopez shoots in but Smith avoids the takedown attempt easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smith thows a body kick. Lopez tries to catch it but that hurt him.

Nice uppercut lands for Lopez. That snapped Smith's head back.
Smith throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Lopez has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Awut Smith is winning the standup battle so far.
Smith swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Smith lands with a thumping leg kick.
Lopez scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Lopez is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Smith is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Lopez wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Smith, who protects the arm well.
Smith tries to bench press Lopez off him but Lopez keeps the position.

Smith gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Lopez tries to control but Smith wriggling away.
Lopez might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Smith haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Lopez working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Smith's thigh. Smith counters though and makes it back to full guard.

Smith pulls Lopez in close to his closed guard and prevents Lopez from doing any damage or advancing position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Lopez is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.

A nice side step and Lopez releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

Smith lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Lopez takes one on the chin but seems OK.

Lopez seems to have recovered his senses.
Smith tries to bum rush Lopez with a series of wild strikes but Lopez uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Lopez throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Smith tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Lopez is in Smith's guard.
Smith wriggles free and stands up.

Lopez blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Smith is pushing Lopez up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Smith creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Lopez pulls guard effortlessly.
Lopez is looking for a triangle but Smith pushes his legs off easily.

Smith's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Lopez isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Smith stacks Lopez on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Smith!
Smith is looking to take a break and control but Lopez is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
