PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Widar Blixt (ranked 2859 p4p, 310 weight class) and Dave Brooksbank (ranked 4181 p4p, 426 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Widar Blixt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dave Brooksbank!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Paulsen Ambrosius and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Blixt bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Brooksbank misses with a few strikes there.
Brooksbank misses with a few strikes there.
Brooksbank tries a head kick but it misses.
Brooksbank misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Blixt looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Brooksbank throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Brooksbank throws a leg kick but Blixt moved away.
Brooksbank takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Blixt lands with an uppercut that bounces Brooksbank off the cage and back into range.
Brooksbank lands with a hook. Blixt tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Brooksbank looks to score with a jab to the body but Blixt is just out of range.

Brooksbank looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Blixt!
Blixt tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Brooksbank goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Blixt turns into him and now he's in Brooksbank's guard.

Blixt sitting in guard here, content to control.

Brooksbank looking for a guillotine here but Blixt defends easily.
Blixt trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Blixt is working hard here to advance position.
Brooksbank working a defensive guard but Blixt manages to pass into side control anyway.
Brooksbank is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Brooksbank can't do much from the bottom here.

Brooksbank gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Brooksbank is squirming around, avoiding Blixt's attempts to control the action.
Blixt tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Brooksbank is trying to escape the mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Brooksbank is still trying to improve position.
Blixt looking to control and managing it successfully.
Brooksbank tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Blixt content just to control the position here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Brooksbank sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Widar Blixt will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Brooksbank throws a nice looking combination but Blixt bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
A head kick misses from Blixt.
Brooksbank tries a head kick but it misses.
Blixt throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Brooksbank fails to land with a series of punches.

Blixt has taken the fight to the clinch.
Blixt fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Brooksbank jumps guard but Blixt stands there with Brooksbank around his waist. Brooksbank gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Brooksbank can't find room to land a body shot as Blixt controls the action.
Blixt will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Brooksbank up against the cage.
Blixt avoiding damage.
Blixt seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression.

Brooksbank goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Brooksbank jumps guard but Blixt stands there with Brooksbank around his waist. Brooksbank gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Blixt controlling the action here for a moment.
Blixt lands with a short punch from the clinch.

Blixt breaks the clinch.
Blixt misses with an uppercut.
A low kick from Brooksbank is predictable there
and Blixt cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Brooksbank finds himself stumbling back on wobbly legs after being clipped by a right hand. He's up against the cage, ducking and weaving under Blixt's strikes but an uppercut finds it's way through and Brooksbank falls! - He's completely out of it and the ref jumps in to save him!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Widar Blixt!
In his post fight interview, Widar Blixt started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
