Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Stephen Dodson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bubba Burns! The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Frank Dennis and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Burns throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Dodson tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Burns is in Dodson's guard. Dodson looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Dodson is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Burns is controlling him. Burns wants to pass the guard but Dodson is keeping the position. Dodson managing to control the position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Burns pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Dodson is keeping the position for now. Burns won't allow Dodson to get back to his feet. Dodson tries to land a sweep but no joy.
That's one minute gone in the round. Burns trying to control the position from guard on top but Dodson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Burns wants to pass the guard but Dodson is keeping the position. Dodson really is a fat lump. Burns trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Dodson is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Dodson feints and as Burns raises his hands in defense, Dodson changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Dodson not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Dodson stopping the sweep attempt from Burns. Burns looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Dodson puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Dodson controlling the action here. Burns wants to control but Dodson is keeping busy.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Dodson keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Burns wants to improve his position but Dodson is controlling well.

Dodson sitting and controlling from the half guard. Dodson seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Burns for as long as he can get away with.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Burns avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Dodson. Dodson winds up and cracks Burns with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Dodson working Burns over with strikes. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Dodson working Burns over with strikes. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Dodson not doing much here.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Dodson shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Burns but Burns pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Burns tries to clinch but Dodson moves out of range. Burns cracks Dodson with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. A big right from Dodson misses. Dodson moves into the clinch. Burns jumps guard and drags Dodson to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Dodson sitting in guard here, content to control. Burns wants to stand but Dodson is controlling the position. Dodson might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Dodson's corner is telling him to maintain position. Burns working a defensive guard but Dodson passes into half guard.

Dodson gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Burns to score an easy takedown into full guard. Burns trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. That's one minute gone in the round. Dodson is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Burns frees his head nicely. Oh but Dodson has switched to an armbar! Burns is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
