PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Max Engelmann (ranked 22746 p4p, 305 weight class) and Richard Lespoi (ranked 23305 p4p, 299 weight class). Lespoi is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Ready steady go, Paul Oakenfold.. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Engelmann misses with a combination
and Lespoi counters with a series of strikes. Engelmann will be more careful next time no doubt.
Engelmann darts in trying to clinch
and Lespoi counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Engelmann walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Engelmann lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Engelmann dodges the punch combination from Lespoi.
Engelmann misses with a head kick.
Engelmann is looking to clinch.
Engelmann looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Lespoi throws a nice looking combination but Engelmann bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Lespoi rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Engelmann moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Max Engelmann seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Engelmann throws a right hand that Lespoi ducks under and follows up with a left that Lespoi also avoids with ease.

Engelmann gets tackled into the cage by Lespoi. Lespoi maintains the clinch.
Lespoi wants to break the clinch but can't.
Lespoi is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Lespoi has had enough of the clinch but Engelmann keeps him there for the moment.

Engelmann wants to get back to striking at distance but Lespoi won't allow it.
Engelmann tries to break free but Lespoi pushes him back against the cage.

Engelmann is trying to push Lespoi away but Lespoi has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Engelmann tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Lespoi lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
Lespoi is leaning against Engelmann and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
Engelmann keeps control of Lespoi as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Lespoi escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A combination from Engelmann does no damage.

and Lespoi counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Engelmann thinking.

and Lespoi counters with a one-two to the body.
Engelmann wants to clinch but Lespoi slips to the side
and Lespoi counters with a straight right hand.

Engelmann is rocked!

and Lespoi scores with a counter punch that sends Engelmann to the canvas! Lespoi smells blood - he's punishing Engelmann with more strikes and the ref has stopped it! Engelmann has no idea where he is - he's tackled the ref... oh dear, poor guy, the crowd is in hysterics!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:28 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Richard Lespoi!
A relieved looking Richard Lespoi thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
