Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jacob Menard (ranked 5115 p4p, 411 weight class) and Marlin Scars (ranked 5672 p4p, 427 weight class). Marlin Scars told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jacob Menard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
2 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Marlin Scars!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Arvi Lind and Anni Minnemäki.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Scars fails with the takedown.
Menard fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Scars, pushing him back against the cage.
Scars jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Menard walks away with a smile on his face. Scars gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Scars slips a jab and a cross from Menard.
Menard leaves Scars with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Jacob Menard has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marlin Scars.
Menard tries to clinch there but Scars circles away.
Scars throws a counter combo.
Scars fails with a takedown attempt.
Menard is looking for a counter combo.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Menard stalks Scars and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Scars's face. Scars staggers backwards, shaken.
Scars dives in and grabs Menard's left leg, looking for a takedown. Menard pushes down on Scars's head and hops out.
The fight stays on the outside here - Menard looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Menard misses with a few strikes there.
A telegraphed right hand from Menard misses the target.
Scars tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Jacob Menard seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Menard has Scars up against the cage in a clinch.
Menard lands a nice elbow.
Scars is looking to take this one to the mat.
Menard lands an elbow inside that Scars shrugs off.
Scars has hold of one of Menard's legs. Menard is fighting the takedown attempt but Scars gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Scars trying to control but Menard is working from the bottom.
Scars is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Menard wants to stand but Scars is controlling the position.

Menard knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Scars on the ground.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Scars swats away the attempt to clinch by Menard.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Scars tries to keep at a distance but Menard has taken the fight into the clinch.
Menard fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Menard scores with a nice hook to the head.
Scars is trying to pull guard but Menard has him pressed against the cage.
Scars changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Menard fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Scars manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Menard on his heels. He'll look to pass Menard's guard now, I'm sure.
Menard is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Scars has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Menard on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Menard tries to get out of the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Scars has taken the fight to the clinch.
Scars breaks the clinch.
Menard tries to clinch but Scars is having none of it.

Scars misses with a takedown
and Menard counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Menard.

Scars gets control of Menard's arms and successfully pulls guard. Scars will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Menard wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Scars's closed guard. He's half up but Scars has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Scars pivots and extends the arm, Menard falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Scars! Well done that man!

After winning the bout, Marlin Scars thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
