Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Derrick Cormier (ranked 5480 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wanderson Silva (ranked 24706 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Sandra Marshall and David Hoff.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cormier rushes Silva and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Silva is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Cormier gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Silva misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Silva trying to control the position but instead, Cormier has worked for underhooks and has pushed Silva into the cage.
Cormier takes a knee to the side of the body.
Cormier tries to pull guard but Silva forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Silva's coach down at Cozad The Island was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Silva's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Silva wants to control from the top but Cormier keeps moving.

Silva wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cormier keeps working.
Silva stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Cormier changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Silva tries to avoid it but Cormier manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Silva to the ground. Silva escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Silva throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Cormier's waist but Cormier gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Silva off to one side.
Cormier could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Silva shoots for a takedown but Cormier saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Wanderson Silva seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The fight moves into the clinch position.
Silva struggles to land a body shot inside as Cormier controls his hands.

Silva is trying to push Cormier away but Cormier has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Silva goes for a double leg but Cormier avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Cormier continues to drive forward.

Silva has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Cormier decides to stand up, so the ref orders Silva to his feet.
Cormier shoots in and bounces Silva off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Silva is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Cormier presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Silva has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Cormier avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Derrick Cormier has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Wanderson Silva is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
