Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mike Haggar! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, David Webb! The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Tiny Johnson and Gwen Towbar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Haggar closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Webb can't get the takedown.
Haggar effectively controlling the action here. Haggar lands with a good tight uppercut to the head. Webb goes for a takedown in the clinch but Haggar prevents it.
Haggar is defending well against a takedown attempt. Mike Haggar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of David Webb. A quick uppercut on the inside from Haggar. Haggar stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body. Webb drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Haggar makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut. Haggar lands with a short shot to the head. Haggar lands on the inside with an uppercut. Webb gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Haggar has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Webb must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Webb looking to pass the guard. Haggar looking for a sweep. Not yet Haggar, not yet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Haggar is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Haggar is nestled in close to Webb, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Webb is pressing down on Haggar's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Haggar works over Webb with some ground and pound from guard. Haggar landing with the ground and pound. Haggar landing some decent shots from guard. Webb looking for a sweep. Not yet Webb, not yet. Haggar is working Webb over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Haggar distracts Webb with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Haggar is in close to Webb's body, working some short punches and elbows. Haggar is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Webb has momentary wrist control but Haggar slips an elbow through the middle.
Webb is rocked!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Haggar's corner is telling him to maintain position. Haggar scores with a decent looking elbow strike. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Haggar is in close to Webb's body, working some short punches and elbows. Haggar has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Haggar is pushing down on Webb's leg trying to pass to half guard. Webb is fighting to maintain full guard but Haggar has managed to sneak the leg through. Haggar is nestled in close to Webb, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Haggar moves nicely into side control. Haggar cracks Webb with a big right hand but Webb just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Webb is still in real trouble! Can Haggar finish him? Haggar working the ground and pound. Haggar in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Haggar lands a strong strike to the head of Webb. That's dazed him! Haggar looking to finish here. Webb is waving his arms around trying to block but he's hurt badly - Haggar lands more strikes and the referee steps in to end the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mike Haggar! Mike Haggar is the new heavyweight champion!
