Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Janus Hassildor! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, DeShawn West! The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Columbo Gatti and Jorge Garcia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hassildor connects with the punch. West slips a straight right by Hassildor. West scores with a jab to the jaw. Hassildor ducks down and throws a hook to the body but West moves away. Hassildor has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from West. Hassildor throws a hook but West blocks it. Nice uppercut there from West. Hassildor throws a right hand that misses
letting West counter with a right hand. Hassildor tries to clinch but fails miserably and West cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Hassildor is rocked! West feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Hassildor's calf. Oh Hassildor is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Hassildor chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before West can pounce on him.
Hassildor throws the left hand but West avoids the punch easily. Hassildor seems to have got his legs back now. West swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Hassildor tries to counter by clinching up but West breaks away and moves out of range. Hassildor scores with a jab. West acknowledges it with a nod of the head. West lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Hassildor at a distance.
Hassildor has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Hassildor there as he acknowledges the shot. West circles away from the clinch attempt.
Hassildor misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from West.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hassildor throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Hassildor rushes West and presses him up against the cage. West struggles to land a body shot inside as Hassildor controls his hands.
Hassildor misses with some punches.
West tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked. A short uppercut from West. West pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Hassildor clinches. West lands a body shot in the clinch.
West breaks the clinch.
Hassildor looks to throw the jab but West is out of range. A nice leg kick lands there from West. Hassildor swings widly with a right hand
and West counters with a low kick, right behind Hassildor 's knee. A shot to the body from Hassildor misses and West counters with a good low kick that Hassildor was not able to check. West lands a head shot. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Hassildor misses with a left hand and West counters with a lovely straight right hand! Janus Hassildor seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Hassildor wants to clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hassildor is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Hassildor throws a right hand that misses
enabling West to counter with a crisp jab. Hassildor misses with a body shot.
Hassildor rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and West counters with a crisp right that sends Hassildor to the canvas! West follows up with punches from the mount and this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:29 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). DeShawn West! After the fight, DeShawn West was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
