Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Boris Godunov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jack Martins! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Steve Smith and Alec Ball.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Godunov clinches up with Martins and pushes him back against the cage. Martins stalling in the clinch.
Martins looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Martins tries to circle away but Godunov has him pinned against the cage. Martins prevents a takedown attempt there.
Martins can't break the clinch.
Godunov jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Martins walks away with a smile on his face. Godunov gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Godunov closes the distance but Martins moves to the side and Martins counters with a right hand to the body. Martins stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Martins is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Godunov gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. A frustrated look appears on Martins's face as he tries to break the clinch. Godunov tries to pull guard but Martins forces him back to his feet, against the cage. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Boris Godunov. That's going to take a lot out of him. Godunov fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Martins is pressed up against the cage. Godunov has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Martins down to the mat. Martins avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
That's one minute gone in the round. Godunov has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him. A punch combination from Martins misses. Martins misses with a body shot.
Godunov looks to clinch and Martins counters with a nice uppercut. Godunov closes the distance and clinches. Martins looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Godunov jumps guard and drags Martins to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Godunov pushes a forearm under Martins's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Martins is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
