Coming up we have a lightweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Alvin Aguilar (ranked 10470 p4p, 564 weight class) and Carlton Lassiter (ranked 3350 p4p, 0 weight class). Aguilar comes to the cage accompanied by Drector's Cut by Kamikazee. Carlton Lassiter told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the lightweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 26 wins and 15 losses; Alvin Aguilar! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Hilo, with a TWGC record of 4 wins and 1 losses; Carlton Lassiter! The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Patrick Alders and Paul Aken.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Aguilar closes the distance and clinches. Lassiter is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Aguilar pulls him back up using the underhooks. Aguilar is fighting off a takedown attempt but Lassiter is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Aguilar to the mat. Aguilar regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Aguilar (0) vs (2) Lassiter Lassiter controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Aguilar pulls Lassiter in close to prevent any damage. Lassiter trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Aguilar looking for a sweep. Not yet Aguilar, not yet. Lassiter looking to pass the guard. Lassiter looking to sit in guard and control but Aguilar gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. That's one minute gone in the round. Lassiter escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Aguilar gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Aguilar not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Aguilar wants to pass the guard but Lassiter is keeping the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Aguilar is working hard here to advance position. Lassiter has his foot on Aguilar's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Aguilar works his way back into a safe position though. Lassiter looking to control.
Aguilar stays in close to Lassiter's body and controls the position. Lassiter is trying to keep Aguilar in close.
We've been hearing good reports from Aguilar's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Lassiter looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Aguilar sitting in guard, not really doing much. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Lassiter had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Aguilar defends it easily. Aguilar sitting in guard here, content to control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Lassiter is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Aguilar frees his head nicely. Oh but Lassiter has switched to an armbar! Aguilar is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
