PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Matt Morgan (ranked 4714 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leo Wittles (ranked 24772 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Matt Morgan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Leo Wittles!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Lou da Vinci and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Morgan shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Morgan stalling.
Morgan has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Morgan tries to pass to full mount but Wittles defends it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Morgan sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Morgan could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Morgan is looking for a kimura here.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Morgan in particular looking to stall.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Morgan prevents Wittles from standing back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Morgan throws a body kick that misses.
Wittles throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Wittles throws a right and a left that Morgan avoids nicely.

Morgan moves into range and clinches up with Wittles.
Wittles wants to get back to striking at distance but Morgan won't allow it.
Wittles wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Morgan has him pressed against the cage.

Morgan successfully pulls guard.
Morgan bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Wittles's guard.

Morgan seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Morgan connects with a couple of short punches.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Morgan is stalling in the full guard.
Morgan throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Wittles works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Morgan stands up and waves to Wittles to follow him.
Wittles tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Wittles misses with a low kick.
Wittles throws a head kick that misses.
Wittles throws a leg kick

and Morgan counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Wittles wants to get back to his feet but Morgan passes into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Wittles keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Morgan passes to full mount!
Morgan working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Wittles is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Wittles looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Wittles defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Morgan.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Morgan content just to control the position here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Morgan closes the distance and pushes Wittles back into the cage.
Morgan has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Wittles is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Wittles wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Morgan has him pressed against the cage.
Morgan tries to land knees in the clinch but Wittles avoids the damage to the body.

Morgan jumps into guard, dragging Wittles to the mat.
Wittles wanted to stand there but Morgan had control of the position.

Morgan is looking for a triangle but Wittles pushes his legs off easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Morgan has a closed guard, preventing Wittles from standing up.

Morgan kicks Wittles off and gets to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sloppy strikes from Wittles. Those never looked like landing.
Wittles takes a kick to the side of the head.
Wittles looks to land a combination but Morgan avoids it well.

Morgan shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Wittles napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Morgan thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Morgan tries for a kimura but Wittles is defending well.
Morgan moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Morgan decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Morgan avoids a punch combination nicely.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Morgan moves into the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Morgan escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Morgan shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Wittles manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Wittles is wriggling around but Morgan manages to pass to half guard.

Wittles on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Wittles wants to get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Morgan controlling the action here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Wittles is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Morgan scores with a couple of nice shots.
Morgan is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Wittles can do to turn this around?

Morgan is trying to work for a kimura but Wittles is defending well.
Morgan takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Wittles is trying to escape back to his feet but Morgan uses the scramble to pass into side control.

Morgan stands up and beckons Wittles to his feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Wittles lets loose with a powerful body kick. Morgan will feel that in the morning.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!



Morgan feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Morgan controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Morgan accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Morgan is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Morgan stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Matt Morgan is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Morgan closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
A lull in the action here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Morgan's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Morgan is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Wittles is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Morgan thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Morgan looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Morgan tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Morgan has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Wittles is letting Morgan control him for a moment.

Morgan has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
A bone on bone clash there as Morgan blocks the leg kick.
Wittles looks to score with a jab to the body but Morgan is just out of range.

Morgan shoots in and bounces Wittles off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Wittles is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Morgan is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Morgan is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Morgan works a leg free and moves into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Morgan is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Well, if Morgan is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
This is a sustained period of stalling by Morgan.

Matt Morgan showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Morgan, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
