Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Wallace Costa (ranked 3843 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matty Walsh (ranked 4649 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, David Hoff and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Walsh wants to clinch up but Costa keeps it at a distance.
Matty Walsh seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Walsh fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Costa to the ground. Walsh is now in Costa's guard.
Walsh's corner is telling him to maintain position.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Walsh postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Costa is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Walsh, into his guard.

Costa tries to free his leg and advance position but Walsh is retaining full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Costa drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Costa jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Costa is pushing down on Walsh's leg trying to pass to half guard. Walsh is fighting to maintain full guard but Costa has managed to sneak the leg through.

Costa is trying to work for a kimura but Walsh is defending well.

Costa is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Costa seems to be working for a kimura but Walsh defends the submission attempt.

Costa is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Walsh sees it coming and defends easily.

Costa is looking for a kimura but Walsh is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Costa to get the leverage.
Costa moves nicely into side control.
Costa is breathing heavily.
Walsh can't do much from the bottom here.

Costa is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Walsh knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Costa swings around for an armbar but Walsh sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Costa's guard.

Walsh drops back looking for a leg! Costa is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Costa manages to kick Walsh off! Walsh jumps back into Costa's guard.
Walsh controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Walsh really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Costa. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Costa has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Walsh can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Costa working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Walsh doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Walsh manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Walsh has closed the distance and engaged Costa in a clinch.

Walsh is sitting in close to Costa's body. Costa has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Walsh is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Walsh is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Costa.
