Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jani A!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Mauricio Rocha and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A nice inside leg kick there by Katama. That's going to slow A down.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A closes this distance looking for a takedown but Katama circles away.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Katama throws the kick towards the body but A avoids it.

A walks forward, straight into a front kick from Katama.

A is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Katama is just riding it out for now. A eventually gives up the hold.

A is looking for a kimura but Katama is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for A to get the leverage.

A stops Katama from standing up.

A postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Katama is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of A, into his guard.
A is breathing heavily.
Katama wants to control from the top but A keeps moving.
Katama thows a big elbow that misses.

A working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Katama doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Katama manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Katama has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of A is proving hard to escape from.

A had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Katama is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. A Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Katama's back instead.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

A is looking for the choke from the back position but Katama is controlling his hands well.
A doesn't have the hooks in and Katama manages to turn into his guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Katama doesn't manage to clinch there - A circles away.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Both fighters circling a little - Katama finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
A walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

Katama scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Katama wants to control but A is keeping him busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Jani A will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Katama's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


A with a lazy takedown attempt

and Katama counters with a nice double leg into guard.

A is looking for a triangle but Katama pushes his legs off easily.
Katama will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Katama throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Katama pushes A away with a front kick.

And that's the end of the fight!
Shin Katama showed his dominance in that final round.
