PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between William John (ranked 2522 p4p, 96 weight class) and Carter Lynch (ranked 4218 p4p, 144 weight class). Lynch has chosen Skindred - Nobody as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. William John has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, William John!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Carter Lynch!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, John Kavanagh and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lynch throws a nice outside leg kick.
Lynch lands a jab-cross combination.


It looks like William John has been cut.
Lynch with a body punch. A glancing blow.
John misses with a takedown attempt - Lynch sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Lynch gets a clinch.
Lynch has had enough of the clinch but John keeps him there for the moment.
John looking for a takedown.
Lynch taking a breather.
Lynch putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has John in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.

Lynch pulls John into guard.
John slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Lynch looking to control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
John looking to pass the guard.
John stopping the sweep attempt from Lynch.
John stands and throws Lynch's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Lynch is looking to regain half guard here but John keeps moving and retains side control.
The referee asks John politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. John prefers to stall for the moment though.
John looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
You can see the frustration on Lynch's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Lynch is letting John control him for a moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Lynch is trying to get back to half guard.
Lynch wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

John stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Lynch has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as John is landing a low percentage of strikes.

Lynch closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. John did well to prevent Lynch getting side control.

John has one foot on Lynch's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Lynch slaps away a takedown attempt from John, before circling back to the center of the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for William John. That's going to take a lot out of him.

John gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

John has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Lynch off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Lynch closes the distance and pushes John back into the cage.

John is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Lynch can't fight it off and eventually John manages to take the fight to the floor. Lynch looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Lynch has his feet on John's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Lynch misses with a head kick.
John seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.

John gets a clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Lynch gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Lynch wants to lay and pray for a moment but John keeps working.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Lynch looks winded!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
John has his hands clasped together around Lynch's back. He's all about the action.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
John is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Lynch's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Lynch's back!

John has the hooks in and he's looking for a rear naked choke here. Lynch is defending well but eventually John manages to get an arm under the chin and he's locked on the RNC! Lynch has no choice but to tap now! He does! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). William John!
