PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Micah Hawk (ranked 1442 p4p, 177 weight class) and Peter Petrov (ranked 2323 p4p, 257 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Micah Hawk!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Peter Petrov!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Alan Glass and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Petrov fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Hawk stuffs the takedown attempt from Petrov. Petrov gets slowly back to his feet.
Peter Petrov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Micah Hawk has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Peter Petrov.

Hawk goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Petrov thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Petrov shoots for a double leg takedown but Hawk sprawls well. He's pushed Petrov's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Petrov tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Hawk manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Hawk looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Hawk is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Petrov is just riding it out for now. Hawk eventually gives up the hold.
Petrov is in trouble now - Hawk has advanced to mount!

Hawk prevents Petrov from getting the reversal.
Petrov is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Hawk with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Hawk is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Petrov to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Petrov shrugs it off.

Hawk has hold of Petrov's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Petrov manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Nice sprawl there from Petrov as Hawk shoots in.
Petrov fails with the takedown
and Hawk cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Hawk throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Petrov closes the distance and clinches up with Hawk, looking for a takedown. Petrov pushes Hawk against the cage but Hawk circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

and Hawk counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Petrov changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hawk tries to avoid it but Petrov manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hawk to the ground. Hawk escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Petrov has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Hawk avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Hawk throws a punch but it's blocked by Petrov.
Hawk goes for a takedown attempt but Petrov pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Hawk looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Petrov!

Hawk is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Petrov is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Hawk is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Petrov knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Hawk is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Petrov's shoulder. That is not cool.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Petrov managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Hawk.

Hawk working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Hawk is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Petrov can do to turn this around?

Petrov tries to roll over but Hawk keeps him under control.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Hawk wants to control the pace but Petrov is squirming around nicely.

Micah Hawk showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Hawk has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A very excited looking Micah Hawk made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
Peter Petrov spoke after the fight, saying 'My opponent deserves all respect, we are the best in the division and everyone else is afraid to fight us. I am grateful for my chance and I will be back stronger than ever'.
