PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Harry Barra (ranked 4687 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rico Vermeer (ranked 4871 p4p, 0 weight class). Vermeer has chosen Rammstein - Ich Will as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Harry Barra!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rico Vermeer!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Joseph Jones and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Vermeer looking to score a takedown here. Barra is defending well but Vermeer drives through and ends up in Barra's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Barra is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Vermeer stands up from Barra's guard - Vermeer perhaps looking for a knockout.
Vermeer shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Barra pinned against the cage. Barra gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Barra stuffs the takedown attempt from Vermeer. Vermeer gets slowly back to his feet.
Harry Barra seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Barra wants to clinch up but Vermeer keeps it at a distance.
Barra fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Vermeer on the side of the head.
Vermeer has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Barra.

Vermeer pushes Barra up against the cage in a clinch.
Barra with an attempt at a knee that misses.

Barra gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Barra using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Vermeer has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Barra doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Barra lands a body shot in the clinch.
Vermeer has Barra pushed against the cage.
Barra takes a shot to the head.
Barra tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Vermeer avoids it.
Barra lands a body shot in the clinch.
Vermeer lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Barra or not.
Barra is breathing heavily.
Barra struggles to land a body shot inside as Vermeer controls his hands.
Vermeer blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Vermeer is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Barra is defending well for now.

Vermeer breaks the clinch.

Vermeer closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Vermeer lands in his opponent's guard.

Vermeer gets to his feet. Barra looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Vermeer drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Barra is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Vermeer dives into side control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Vermeer is working Barra over with some ground and pound from side control.

Vermeer decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Vermeer shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Barra manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Vermeer keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Barra's head.
Barra can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Vermeer controls the pace.

Vermeer gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Vermeer bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Barra tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Barra is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Vermeer looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Barra blocks a head kick by Vermeer.

Vermeer shoots in and bounces Barra off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Vermeer slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Vermeer postures up and lands a big shot to Barra's brow.
Barra has control of Vermeer's left arm, preventing Vermeer from doing any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Vermeer stands up over Barra, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Vermeer forces his way into half guard.

Vermeer decides to stand up.

Vermeer has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Barra keeps control of Vermeer as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Vermeer has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Barra is trying to keep an underhook but Vermeer manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Vermeer seems to be looking for submissions.
Vermeer seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Vermeer works his way into side control.
Barra is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

Vermeer tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Barra on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Vermeer just content to control the position.

Vermeer decides to stand back up. Vermeer steps back and let's Barra get back to his feet.
Vermeer throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Vermeer misses with an attempted mid kick.

Vermeer gets a clinch.

Vermeer has picked Barra up - he's going for a ride! Vermeer dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Vermeer frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Vermeer controlling his opponent.
Vermeer scoring with strikes but Barra is staying in there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Rico Vermeer showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



Vermeer closes the distance and pushes Barra back into the cage.

Vermeer has Barra pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Vermeer pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Barra tumbling to the mat - Vermeer dives into Barra's guard.
Barra is wriggling around but Vermeer manages to pass to half guard.

Vermeer scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Vermeer perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Vermeer stops Barra from getting back to his feet.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Vermeer's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Vermeer moves nicely into side control.
Rico Vermeer has got the better of the ground game so far.

Vermeer stands up and beckons Barra to his feet.

Vermeer feints and as Barra raises his hands in defense, Vermeer changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Vermeer keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Barra's head.

Vermeer pushes down on Barra's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Vermeer moves into full mount! Barra won't be happy about that!

Vermeer stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Vermeer changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Barra looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Vermeer scores with a couple of short elbows.
Barra seems a little lost for a moment, as Vermeer dominates the positioning.

Vermeer is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Barra knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Vermeer moves into full mount!

Vermeer tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Vermeer working for a submission but Barra is keeping him at bay.
Barra takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

It looks like Harry Barra has been cut.

Vermeer postures up and throws a big right hand. BOOM! Right on the button! Barra is out cold - huge knockout for Vermeer!
