PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jolly Roger (ranked 3236 p4p, 361 weight class) and Drizontay Wilder (ranked 2074 p4p, 251 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jolly Roger!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Drizontay Wilder!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Ben Zyskovitsi and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wilder pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Roger back to the cage. Wilder follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Wilder lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Roger at a distance.
Wilder ducks under a wild hook from Roger.
It seemed like Wilder was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Roger looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wilder trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Roger connects with a couple of short punches.
Wilder throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Roger advances to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Roger is pressing down on Wilder's thigh, looking to free his foot. Wilder is holding on for now.

Roger is working for a submission of some sort.
Wilder on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Roger trying to mount his opponent but Wilder defends it.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Roger seems to be working for a kimura but Wilder defends the submission attempt.
Wilder is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Roger's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Roger's back!
Roger can't escape the position.
Roger breaks Wilder's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Wilder controls Roger momentarily but Roger frees himself.
Roger working some strikes from top position.
Roger looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Wilder throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Wilder can do anything to dispel that myth.
Roger won't allow Wilder to get back to his feet.
Roger wants to control from the top but Wilder keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wilder trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Wilder throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Roger wants to control from the top but Wilder keeps moving.
Wilder throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Roger thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Roger drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Roger jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Roger wants to control from the top but Wilder keeps moving.
Wilder trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Wilder wants to get back to his feet but Roger is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Roger advances to half guard.
Roger uses his free foot to push down on Wilder's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Wilder.
Wilder really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Roger. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Wilder throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.
Roger can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Wilder is looking to escape.
Roger with a couple of short strikes.
The referee warns Wilder that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Wilder really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Roger postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Wilder looks a forlorn figure.


It looks like Drizontay Wilder has been cut.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Roger has hold of Wilder's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Wilder manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Wilder tries to hold on but Roger pushes him away.

Roger is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Wilder can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Roger avoids the attempt from Wilder to control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Roger trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Wilder tries to reverse the position but Roger maintains control.
Roger scores with a couple of good head shots there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jolly Roger dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Drizontay Wilder's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Wilder throws an overhand right that lands on Roger's shoulder, as Roger tries to avoid the shot.
Roger looks to land a right hand but Wilder moved out of range.
Roger slips a jab from Wilder.
Nice cross by Roger.
Wilder throws out a powerful jab.
Roger shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Roger ducks under a wild hook from Wilder.
Wilder lands a jab-cross combination.
Wilder's jab looks to have found its range, popping Roger under the eye.
Roger is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Wilder can do to turn this around?
Wilder scores with a nice head shot.
Roger takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Roger ducks right into an uppercut from Wilder.
Wilder loads up on a big right hand but Roger slips the punch.
Roger attempts a counter takedown but Wilder avoids it well and moves away.
Wilder listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Roger tries for a takedown but Wilder circles away easily
and Wilder counters with a stiff right hand.


Roger is rocked!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Wilder lands an uppercut, right on the button! Roger tumbles backwards into the cage, staring vacantly into space! He's got no idea where he is, who he is or what day it is... Poor guy.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:10 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Drizontay Wilder!
