8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jay Villanueva! The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Jorge Garcia and Chad Campbell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Villanueva tries to clinch up but Hartley circles away and keeps his distance. The fight stays on the outside here - Villanueva looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Hartley cracks Villanueva with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. Hartley swats away the attempt to clinch by Villanueva. Villanueva walks into a left hand. Villanueva gets in close and instigates a clinch. Villanueva connects with a knee to the head.

We've been informed that Villanueva has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result. Villanueva throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Hartley blocks it with crossed arms. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hartley is trying to force a seperation but Villanueva has the dominant position. Villanueva unloads a knee to the mid-section. Villanueva tries to land a knee to the head but misses.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! A jab from Villanueva misses. Hartley misses with a looping left. Hartley feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Villanueva's calf. Villanueva tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hartley swats him away and circles back towards the center. That's three minutes gone in the round. Hartley scores with a nice strike. A lazy body kick from Villanueva and Hartley cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
It looks like Jay Villanueva has been cut. We've been told by Hartley's head coaches at Blanc Fitness Academy that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Hartley misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Villanueva.

It looked like Hartley wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. Villanueva tries to clinch there but Hartley circles away.

Villanueva takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Hartley throws out a loose jab but Villanueva uses good head movement to avoid it. Hartley misses with a straight right. Hartley lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Hartley throws a lazy right hand but Villanueva sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Villanueva tries to close the distance and clinch but Hartley swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Jay Villanueva seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Hartley moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Villanueva is rocked! Villanueva circles to his right, straight into a beautiful hook by Hartley. Villanueva falls face first into the canvas - great knockout victory for Hartley!
