Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Yuri Maltsev! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Roy Mills! The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Sandra Marshall and Santiago Holmes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Maltsev's jab looks to have found its range, popping Mills under the eye. Mills keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Maltsev ducks down and throws a hook to the body. This fight brought to you by 5M nutrition - it's mmmmm tasty. Nice jab by Maltsev. Mills's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Maltsev connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Mills scrambles back to his feet. Mills closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Maltsev knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mills on the ground. Mills is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Maltsev defends it well. Mills wants to take a breather but Maltsev is having none of it. This has been an exciting period of action! Maltsev manages to get to full guard.
Mills works a leg free and moves into half guard. Still in half guard, Mills seems content to control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Maltsev is looking to escape. Maltsev is looking to improve his position.

Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Maltsev. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mills controlling his opponent. Maltsev is trying to get back to his feet but can't. Mills working for a submission but Maltsev is keeping him at bay.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mills can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Maltsev is looking to escape. Mills has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Buoy Training. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one. Maltsev tries to lock up and control but Mills gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Mills wants to finish this one by submission but Maltsev is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Mills. Mills fails to take his opponent's back. Mills works his way to his opponent's back.
Maltsev looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment. Mills has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Maltsev! Can he survive? No! He's out! Mills gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Roy Mills! A relieved looking Roy Mills thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
