Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Nick Shamrock (ranked 9 p4p, 2 weight class) and Manny Puno (ranked 93 p4p, 13 weight class). Shamrock comes to the cage accompanied by One Winged Angel by The Black Mages. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Puno misses with an uppercut.
Shamrock is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Puno has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Shamrock needs to keep his hands up - Puno had a free shot at his head there.

Puno shoots in for a takedown but Shamrock shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Puno shoots in and bounces Shamrock off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Shamrock wants to stand up but Puno is controlling him.

Puno looking to sit in guard and control but Shamrock gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Shamrock has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Puno pulls Shamrock in close to prevent any damage.

Shamrock throws a hook to the side of Puno's head but Puno sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Shamrock throws a body shot but no joy.
Puno tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Shamrock leaves Puno with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Shamrock lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Horrible takedown attempt by Puno or perhaps it was just good defense by Shamrock, which made it look bad.
Manny Puno seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Shamrock lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Puno has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Puno and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Puno bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Shamrock's head.

Puno shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Shamrock manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Shamrock pushes Puno off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Shamrock was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.

The fighters circle momentarily. Shamrock darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Shamrock throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.

Puno throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Shamrock sees it coming and avoids it easily.

A little feinted left hand from Shamrock on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Shamrock takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Shamrock moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Shamrock lands a nice shot that snaps Puno's head back.
Puno is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Shamrock.

Puno works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Puno changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

Puno fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Shamrock to the ground. Puno is now in Shamrock's guard.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Puno swings for the body but Shamrock moves out of range.
Shamrock throws a right and a left that both miss.
Shamrock has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Shamrock there as he acknowledges the shot.

Puno throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Puno shoots for a double leg takedown but Shamrock sprawls well. He's pushed Puno's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Shamrock tried to counter with a leg kick but Puno avoided it.
Shamrock scores with a crisp jab that stopped Puno in his tracks.

and Shamrock counters with a huge left! Puno is in big trouble! He's backing up but Shamrock isn't giving him chance to recover. Under a barage of punches the ref has to step in to save Puno from any more damage. A dominating finish by Shamrock!

In his post fight interview, Nick Shamrock started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
