Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kai Kona (ranked 2978 p4p, 307 weight class) and Johnny Winkleman (ranked 2935 p4p, 304 weight class). Kona comes to the cage accompanied by A Warriors Call. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kai Kona! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Johnny Winkleman! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Steve Smith and Elvis Blanc.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Winkleman ducks right into an uppercut from Kona. Kona ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Kona jabs Winkleman to the body, keeping him at a distance. Winkleman doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. No luck with that takedown attempt from Winkleman. Kona throws an off balance right hand
and Winkleman counters with a nice double leg into side control. Kona won't be happy with that. Winkleman is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Kona is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Winkleman is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. Winkleman tries for a kimura but Kona is defending well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kona is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Winkleman off and has taken his back! Winkleman looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Winkleman is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kona is trying to stick to Winkleman's back but Winkleman is turning into Kona. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Kona's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Winkleman. Kona wants to stand but Winkleman is controlling the position. Kona wants to sweep but no luck. Winkleman seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Winkleman trying to control but Kona is working from the bottom. Kona pulls Winkleman in close to prevent any damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Winkleman looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Kona has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Winkleman wants to control from the top but Kona keeps moving. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Kona wants to sweep but no luck.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Winkleman throws a poor cross that misses
and Kona counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Kona lands a body shot.
Kona is looking to slow Winkleman down with leg kicks. Kona dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Winkleman. That did some damage! Kona throws a shot to the body.
Kona throws a body punch but Winkleman moves out of range. Kai Kona seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. A good leg kick by Kona. Kona misses with a hook
and Winkleman decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Kona's guard. The fighters are working up against the cage. Kona manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Kai Kona dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Winkleman avoids a punch combination nicely.
Winkleman feints the counter takedown. Kona misses with a right hand so Winkleman counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Kona can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Winkleman controls the pace. Winkleman wants to control from the top but Kona keeps moving. Winkleman controls the pace of the fight for a moment. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Winkleman is continuing to stall. Kona looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
That's one minute gone in the round. Winkleman trying to control the position from guard on top but Kona is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Winkleman not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Kona throws a series of punches but Winkleman avoids them all with ease. Kona's corner calls for a 1-2. Kona obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. Kai Kona is winning the standup battle so far. A jab from Winkleman misses. Kona stuns Winkleman with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Jab by Kona. Winkleman shoots in looking for a takedown. Kona tries to sprawl out of it but Winkleman keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kona manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Donk. Kona catches Winkleman right on the button with a cross. Kai Kona is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kona stuffs the takedown attempt from Winkleman. Winkleman gets slowly back to his feet. Kona fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Winkleman has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Kona throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Winkleman walks into a stiff left hand from Kona. Kona is looking to wear down Winkleman with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment. Nice defenses there by Winkleman. Kona scores with a punch to the head. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Kona uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Winkleman. Winkleman dives in for a single leg takedown but Kona sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Kai Kona has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Johnny Winkleman. Kona throws a sloppy head kick and Winkleman counters with a single leg into guard. Kona didn't expect that. Winkleman sitting in guard, not really doing much.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Winkleman trying to control but Kona is working from the bottom. Winkleman drops back, looking for a kneebar! Kona looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Kona looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Kona! Winkleman wants to control but Kona postures up. Kona taking a breather here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Winkleman can't do much from the bottom here. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Kona trying to control the position but Winkleman is working away. Winkleman manages to work his way to half guard, despite Kona's best efforts. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Kai Kona dominated that second round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!
Kona pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Kona digs a good hook to Winkleman's body.
Winkleman closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Winkleman is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Kona doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Winkleman. Winkleman is stalling here. Kona is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Winkleman seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Kona has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work. Kai Kona overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Winkleman can't do much from the bottom here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Winkleman regains half guard. Kona is looking to take a break and control but Winkleman is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. The fighters are battling for position here. Winkleman manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Winkleman looking for a guillotine here but Kona defends easily.
Kona is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Winkleman has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Kona is looking to defend but Winkleman has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Kona! Winkleman pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Kona taps out and this one is all over!
