Vettenranta darts in looking for a takedown but Seppala gets double underhooks and turns Vettenranta into the cage. Vettenranta dives in for a single leg takedown but Seppala sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Seppala definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Seppala cracks Vettenranta with a right hand to the side of the head. Seppala misses with a hook
#TD2# and Vettenranta counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Vettenranta is trying to control. Seppala wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Seppala has his hands clasped together around Vettenranta's back. He's all about the action. In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Vettenranta working his ground and pound in the gym. Vettenranta is controlling the pace.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Vettenranta throwing shots but Seppala is blocking nicely. Vettenranta looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Seppala is looking to regain full guard. We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Vettenranta has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. Vettenranta misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Vettenranta connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Vettenranta has a takedown stuffed. Vettenranta with a lazy takedown attempt and Adams counters with a right hand to the body. James Adams has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kaleva Vettenranta.#TD2# Vettenranta looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Adams is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Adams keeping full guard, as Vettenranta tries to pass. Vettenranta must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Vettenranta tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Adams swivels and escapes. Adams looks to score with a jab to the body but Vettenranta is just out of range. Adams presses Vettenranta against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot. Adams lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards. The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Adams takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life. Adams stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

I say controlling but really, he's stalling. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Vettenranta postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Meinhoff trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from! Vettenranta postures up and lands a big shot to Meinhoff's brow. Meinhoff really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Vettenranta. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Vettenranta looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Meinhoff looking for a sweep. Not yet Meinhoff, not yet. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. #R1# Vettenranta darts in looking for a takedown but Boaz gets double underhooks and turns Vettenranta into the cage. Vettenranta doesn't succeed with the takedown and Boaz counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. No luck for Vettenranta with that takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kaleva Vettenranta. That's going to take a lot out of him. Vettenranta shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Boaz defends it nicely. Vettenranta is trying hard to land a takedown here. Boaz sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Vettenranta has been working on his balance at Highland CT & Spar, so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Boaz. Boaz throws a hook but Vettenranta blocks it. Boaz throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Vettenranta. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
