The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Both fighters circling a little - Cornell finishes the exchange with a kick to the body. Smith bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. A chopping leg kick lands by Cornell. Smith misses with a body shot.
Smith has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Cornell finds it's way round the side to connect with Smith's head. Cornell looks to land a left hand but Smith moved out of range nicely. Cornell lands with a shot to the body. Smith pivots, looking for a leg kick but Cornell is out of range and Smith settles back down. Cornell connects with a body shot that sends Smith's belly button to the back. Cornell paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
It looks like Awut Smith has been cut. Smith tries a head kick but it misses.
Cornell will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Cornell lands a nice leg kick that just misses Zinsou's sensitive parts. Zinsou closes the distance looking to clinch and Cornell connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Zinsou throws a looping overhand right but Cornell ducks down to avoid it. Zinsou misses with a hook. Cornell ducked under it nicely. Zinsou moves in looking to clinch but Cornell pushes him off. Cornell connects with a right hand. Zinsou shakes it off. Zinsou comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. A good leg kick by Cornell.
