#R1##TD2# Smith scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Smith trying to control the position but Ruiz is working away. Smith might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Ruiz haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.#ES# Ruiz throws Smith to one side and escapes! Smith fails with a takedown attempt. It looked like Ruiz was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.#TD2# Smith drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. Smith wants to control but Ruiz is keeping him busy. #T1# Smith is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. Ruiz is trying to escape and get back to his feet.#SUB2# Smith working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Smith scores with a couple of short elbows.
