KOTB 14 would end up being another landmark for the King of the Beach promotion this past weekend. The card would feature a number of close fights, which resulted in a record four decisions. Bruce Zimbardo would set a record with his sixth appearance for the promotion, while Sean Soffman achieved his fourth win and fourth submission - both KOTB records. Things are starting to look legitimate over here in Rio, so we should probably hire some staff and start doing our taxes. Anyone?
A pair of light-heavyweight grapplers would open up our card, as Bulgaria’s Papas Kanamun took on Brazil’s Bruno Santoyo. Kanamun, who held a decent reach advantage, came forward with a number of wild combinations to start the fight. Santoyo avoided them with ease and countered with a pair of takedowns, but looked like he may have tired in the process. Kanamun stayed aggressive, swept the Brazilian and eventually took his back whi cont...

Michael Fisher got his career back on track with a dominant performance and did exactly what he needed to do to get his hand raised and walk away with a victory over Muranda Kibawa. His gameplan going into this fight was to use his superior clinchwork to frustrate and rough up Kibawa which he did for the entire 15 minutes. From the opening bell of all 3 rounds, Fisher rushed Kibawa, tying him up against the cage where he overwhelmed him with his superior striking from inside the clinch. He threw a combined total of 130 knees, elbows and punc cont... |

Hey Murphy, thanks for joining us between sessions at The Pit in London, how are things going up there?
Good, my coaches and training staff are working with me to round out my game, make me a better fighter to get to greater heights in my career. They work hard to drill in the idea, ”you’re only as good as your next win” into my mind.
You’ve been with us since KOTB 2 and you’ve looked better and better each fight. Have you been happy with your development and performances so far?
Yes and no, I’m very happy with the success I’ve had, but I’m a very competitive person, and I always feel I could have won, faster, better.
Your next challenger, James La Grande, is a recent signeee has been calling you out since he joined KOTB. What are your thoughts on him?
I've heard about him from my training partner Ralf Jones when they both competed in La Grand Promotions. He’s a very talented fighter, but I don’t plan on losing this early in my career, if he wants to bang with me, let him.

Hey Guy, nice to see you again. How have you been since we last spoke?
Pas mal, pas mal, I'm a champion now - chicks dig it. Not that chicks digging it have any effect on my training... to be honest it kind of does.
On Saturday night you’ll defend your title for the second time, this time against a talented Polish boxer in Ezekiel Puchowski. Do you see this fight going any differently than the last two?
Well, it is a talented Polish boxer, anything can happen, but ... I have been improving my English and I can tell that it will be a first round KO. It's not that different from the last two.
Why did I mentioned that I improved my English? It's an important skill for mma fighter, I used to have a hard time deciphering what the referee's shouting at me when I was beating the limp and unresponsive body of my opponent.
You have a few challengers in the wing with the dangerous Blob Sapp, new signeee Conrad Mcgillicutty & Sandu Lungu, who looks ready to challenge you again in the future. Is there anyone in the division that you have your eye on?
Yes, all three are splendid opponents and I hope to face them all in the cont... |
