HERO Warfare 2 Preview

Event Preview: HERO Warfare 2
HERO FC
2012-12-05, Helsinki, Malmi Sportshall
Author:Bel Ciganin

Warning: HERO FC is back with another portion of mayhem, violence and entertainment. HERO Warfare 2 is a card I’m really looking forward to because of the insane amount of great match ups we have. There will be no title fights tonight but with a main event like that, I don really think someone cares. We have the HERO legend, the unbeaten, the hall of famer, the light heavyweight champion Aleksi Vihtala going up in weight to face the former heavyweight champion, iron fisted Boyko Borisov. And that is not all in the co-main event we have two former champs – Georgi Todorov and Zhijing Wang fighting to get back to their lost glory. Let’s see what other treats this card promises.
Preliminary fights:
Dave Iverson (3-6-0) v Dougie “Anderson” Silva
Middleweight
Dave Iverson takes on Dougie Silva in the opening bout of the evening. He doesn’t have a great record but has been long enough in the game and has plenty of skill to give “Anderson” a nightmare debut. The newcomer is primarily a striker and should look to stay on the feet.
“The Grinder” Dirk Damon v “Killah B” Brian Fury
Light heavyweight
Dirk is awfully boring to watch but Fury haven’t been the distance in his career so there is still hope for something else than a lay’n’pray fest, but since “The Grinder” is involved there will be no surprise if it turns out that way.
Bruno Dantibo (2-4-0) v Chuck Vogelpohl (3-4-0)
Welterweight
Dantibo is a capable grappler but has found himself in a dire situation by losing his last 4 fights. He needs to grab the W against Chuck who has had mixed success in his MMA career and will look to finally elevate his game and start stringing wins.
Rafael Carneiro (3-6-0) v “Dimebag” Taisto Rahapussi (3-2-0)
Middleweight
Taisto is no amateur in ground fighting, but he’d be better off if he avoids that aspect of the game against BJJ brown belt Rafael Carneiro. Taisto has the tools to outstrike Rafael but if it gets to the ground it might get real complicated for him.
Richard Burger (3-2-0) v “General” Liang Guanglie (1-0-0)
Heavyweight
Burger is a guy who many thought would storm the heavyweight division after submitting Roddy Piper but he suffered from a devastating KO loss in his last fight and has to get back on track against another very promising and hard hitting individual – Liang Guanglie.
Main Card
Jaarko Hahlund (7-5-0) v Jummi Jammi (4-3-0)
Light heavyweight
Jammi started his career with a non-existent ground game, but he has managed to round his game and is currently on a 3 fight win streak with all of his victories coming in the first round by KO. He is marching to a title shot but Hahlund is determined to derail him from his target. Jaarko is a beast in the clinch but standing with Jummi is asking for trouble so I wonder what is Hahlund’s strategy going to be.
“Night Time” Jared Listen (5-1-0) v “Bad Ass” Bjj Wrestler (5-3-0)
Middleweight
Bjj Wrestler’s parents obviously wanted him to be a grappler but he decided to commit on his stand up skills breaking their hearts. He will face one of the best wrestlers in the division – Jared Listen. He rarely uses it in an offensive matter though so I expect a stand up war with an ending we can’t predict.
Mark Murphy (8-4-0) v Hazuka “Katana” Oyama (6-5-0)
Middleweight
Mark Murphy made his debut on HERO 2 so he is one of the veterans in the organisation and has always been at the top of the ladder although he lost his two title shots. He is riding on a two fight win streak and would like to make it three against Hazuka Oyama who is a tough nut to crack and has respectable striking abilities. The winner of this fight will make a serious step towards a title shot so everyone in the division will be watching closely what the outcome will be.
Georgi “Sasha Belov” Todorov (8-3-0) v “The King” Zhijing Wang
Featherweight. Co-main event.
This one is destined to be thrilling. Former featherweight champ, considered at one point unbeatable Georgi Todorov will lock horns against  former lightweight champ who dropped down in weight and even had a title shot Zhijing Wang. Both guys lost to Antero Wursty recently and have to work really hard to get back to the top. Especially Todorov who is now on a two fight losing streak as he got knocked out against Van Der Moot in his last outing. He says he has revamped and is better than ever and we will see the best of him against Wang. His usual gameplan can be described easily – vicious ground and pound but he had some knock out wins in the stand up as well so who knows what he will bring to the table. On the other hand Wang is very skilled in the striking department but he always looks to get the fight to the ground and lock a submission so the ground action will be very intriguing and my take is it will be the deciding factor of the fight.
Aleksi "Kaarlon Toinen Veli" Vihtala (10-0-0) v “Bate” Boyko Borisov (8-4-0)
Heavyweight
This clash deserves to be called a superfight. Aleksi Vihtala the legend of HERO versus the guy with 7 OTN awards, 7 first round finishes Boyko Borisov. I’ll tell you one thing, this has the potential to become a real classic. If you haven’t seen those two fight (if you’ve been living in a cage or you this is your first MMA event), you will be fascinated by the skill level of both. Vihtala’s striking is a thing of beauty, the way he moves and sets up combinations, the precision he strikes with, is out of this world. Recently he showed he has the heart of a champion after being pushed to the limit and came back to submit the great grappler Gustav Tedvik. After clearing the division, there was only one thing to do – get a fight with a top heavyweight. Boyko Borisov is having 60 pounds on Vihtala but is 6 sm shorter so Vihtala should keep him on the outside and use his speed, because Borisov has ridiculous KO power – he can put you out with a touch. Make no mistake though, he is no sloppy dude and has real technique with his hands. He started his career like a pure boxer but has developed some pretty slick ground game as he tapped former champ Alan Fei Hong in his last fight. So will Vihtala cement his legacy and his status as the top p4p guy in HERO or will Borisov hand him his first loss in his career remains to be seeen. Anyway, this fight is a must watch.
