HERO Fight Night 1 Preview

Event Preview: HERO Fight Night 1
HERO FC
2012-12-08, Helsinki, Hard Knocks - Helsinki
Author:Bel Ciganin

Good evening to all of you that chose to read my preview for this Saturday’s card of fighting put out by HERO FC – a sure sign of a good time. We have very intriguing match ups culminating with a featherweight championship fight as a main event featuring current champion Antero Wursty taking on former lightweight champion Maarten Van Der Moot. Let’s see what else is going to keep us at the edge of our seats in the Hard Knocks arena:
Preliminary fights:
Kalle Keinonen (0-0-0) v Mike "Asme" Stillao (3-5-0)
Featherweight
Mike will rely on his grappling and experience against the muay thai practicioner making his MMA debut Kalle Keinonen.
"The Carpenter" Cortland Cartwright (1-2-0) v Orpo Jokinen (2-0-0)
Welterweight
Orpo Jokinen looks like a very promising guy but he has a stern test in front of him in the face of Carwright who can spoil Orpo’s party big time.
Warmonger Sion (3-4-0) v "The Beast" Ieuan Williams (4-5-0)
Heavyweight
Both guys have been a bit inconsistent in their MMA careers and would like to elevate them to a new level and a win in that fight might just be the start of it.
Jose "Moleque" Farinha (2-0-0) v Greg "Ollie" Oliver (0-0-0)
Bantamweight
Farinha will look to get his 3rd submission victory against the newcomer Oliver, who is as skilled as his opponent so it will come down to who wants it more.
Ollilan Jorma (5-2-0) v Jake Shields (2-2-0)
Welterweight
A classical striker vs grappler match up. The question is who will prove to be the smarter fighter and will trick the other one into his game and capture the W.
Main Card
"The Hurricane" Rubin Carter (2-3-0) v Atte "Teufel" Peltola (5-5-0)
Middleweight
Rubin Carter is an exciting new addition to the HERO middleweight division and will look to use his dynamic striking in order to make the best possible impression but Pelotola has seen a lot in the sport and I doubt he’s intimidated. His best chance is to ground his opponent and use his top game in order to prevail.
"The Elbow" Charles Cooper (6-2-0) v Risto Pasila (6-5-0)
Welterweight
Cooper is one of those guys that does one thing but does it so well that even when his opponents are aware of his strength, they can’t do anything about it. Risto Pastila will try to prove me wrong and use his grappling to negate Cooper’s clinchwork and elbows.
"Kaschey" Artem Bessmertin (4-1-0) v Rauta Naama (8-1-0)
Welterweight. Co-main event!
This fight might just be the last step for one of those two guys before the title shot. We have the always exciting Artem Bessmertin facing off against HERO hall of famer and former welterweight champ Rauta Naama. “Kaschey” is a phenomenal wrestler who possesses killer ground and pound and dangerous stand up as well. I doubt he will try to outgrapple Rauta because we all know that is not going to end well for him – Naama made his name by breaking limbs and putting guys to sleep with chokes, so I guess this fight will be decided in the stand up department unless Naama gets a takedown. Whatever the outcome, I expect fireworks and a finish. After all in their combined 14 fights in total, there has been only 1 that went to a decision.
Antero Wursty (6-2-0) v "The Executioner" Maarten Van Der Moot (9-2-0)
Featherweight. Title fight! Main event!
The main event of the evening features Antero Wursty putting his title on the line against "The Executioner" Maarten Van Der Moot. Antero Wursty started his career with 2 consecutive losses but he is now a different fighter. Riding on a 6 fight win streak, he is shaping up to be a really dominant champion and he’ll be looking for his second defense against the heavy handed Van Der Moot. “The Executioner” was a lightweight champion at one point in his career but two losses suffered by Wai Man Li made him drop down a weight class and he is once again in title contention after beating Georgi Todorov within the first minute of their bout. What makes this fight a must watch even for the casual fans is the way those two match up – both guys are strikers and we should expect a stand up war and nothing less. Antero Wursty looks like the better striker because he mixes kicks and punches while Van Der Moot relies almost entirely on his boxing but he has such KO power that even a jab can make an unwary opponent hit the deck so don’t blink cuz you might just miss the KO of the year!
