HERO Fight Night 2 Preview

Event Preview: HERO Fight Night 2
HERO FC
2012-12-15, Helsinki, Hard Knocks - Helsinki
Author:Bel Ciganin

Ladies and Gentleman I’m here to give you a taste of what to expect from tonight’s event put out by HERO FC which is a guarantee for a good bunch of fights. The event is called HERO Fight Night 2 and is held in the Hard Knocks arena in Helsinki. The headline of the night features newly crowned champion lightweight Usko Luttinen against talented Ukrainian Igor Yakovchenko. This will be the second time those two will meet and their first fight was decided by the judges. I bet those two would like to get the finish this time around though. So, let’s take a peek at the match ups:

Kong King (9-2-0) v "The Elk" Ruslan Smirnov (7-2-0)

Bantamweight

A lot of people say 1 of these two should have gotten a title shot but we get to see them facing each other in a title eliminator match. Classical striker vs grappler match up

Atte "Teufel" Peltola (5-5-0) v "The Hurricane" Rubin Carter (2-3-0)

Middleweight

Peltola and Carter were scheduled to fight on HERO Fight Night 1 fight, but Carter had some issues with his flight and couldn’t make it so the bout was postponed. They are finally going out against each other and there will be no backing down this time.

"Shejk" Sed El Bunt (0-1-0) v "Stony" Tony Kush (3-0-0)

Welterweight

Sed is a skilled fighter, but lost his debut and now he’s going to leave everything in the cage in order to get that W. His opponent Tony Kush is still unbeaten and that means something so I expect a war in this one.

Jack "The Jack Hammer" Miller (1-1-0) v Mc "Fly" Fly (1-1-0)

Featherweight

Those two have indentical records but that fight might set their careers in different directions so it will be essential for them to bring their A game and put on a show. Mc seems like he has a little advantage on the feet, but he might find himself in trouble if he gets down against the BJJ purple belt Jack Miller.

Eliod "Scooter" Bunkley Iii (6-7-0) v Bingo Steel (2-4-0)

Middleweight

Bunklei Iii will look to prove that the title fight he lost wasn’t the peek of his career and he has a lot more to show. His opponent tonight – Bingo Steel doesn’t have the best record but he won his last one and who knows, he might turn that into a win streak.

Jorge "J.G." Gurgel (4-0-0) v "God Of Death" Ah Puch Nacon (0-0-0)

Lightweight

Grugel has used his BJJ skills in order to win all of his fights so far but tonight he is facing a BJJ Black belt and he might need to show that he is a diverse fighter, because the “God of Death” isn’t a guy you want to grapple with.

"Miltei" Iivana Jalo (4-1-0) v Nikolai Jegorowitsch Makarow (2-0-0)

Heavyweight

Jalo and Makarow are really talented prospects and I’m excited we have them on the HERO roster because they seem to get better every time they step in the cage. Besides, everybody loves heavyweights who try to take each others heads off.

Pekka "Shorty" Pikkarainen (10-6-0) v Jacky Ler (2-1-0)

Featherweight

A real veteran facing a talented youngster. That’s the story of the collision between Pekka and Jacky Ler. This doesn’t look like a “passing of the torch” fight. Although Ler seems to have the potential to be a future champion, Pekka has shown time and time again that his heart is unmatched and has gotten himself pretty close to a title shot.

"The Executioner" Davor Langerholc (4-0-0) v Gustav "The Machine" Tedvik (6-1-0)

Light heavyweight. Co-main event.

In our co-main event, Davor Langerholc meets Gustav Tedvik in what seems to be a battle, promising to delight every fight fan out there. Tedvik received his first pro loss last time out against the legend Aleksi Vihtala, but his performance was more then impressive and he is now facing “The Executioner” Davor Langerholc who is considered by many to be capable of stopping Vihtala. We will see if that is true tonight against Tedvik. Both guys are really capable grapplers as Tedvik is the better wrestler while Davor has a BJJ black belt and they possess some solid stand up skills as well so I guess the guy who comes with a better game plan will get the W.

Usko Luttinen (9-2-0) v Igor Yakovchenko (4-4-0)

Lightweight. Main event. Title fight.

What a main event we have here folks! The highly revered champion Usko Luttinen will take on the reborn Igor Yakovchenko for the second time, this time for the lightweight title! Their first encounter was an exciting stand up battle and received FOTN bonus and I think this one will be even better as both guys have made huge progress since. The challenger Igor Yakovchenko looked like a fighter belonging to the lower tiers of competition at one point of his career, albeit he had great fighting credentials. The transformation he made was stunning though. We knew he had the skills to be a great fighter, but his decisions in the cage weren’t the right ones, but now that he found the motivation to improve, gained valuable experience and became a smarter fighter overall, he looks like a real killer out there. Usko on the other hand is widely considered as the best striker in the division and I agree with that statement. He mixes kicks and punches extraordinarily and attacks from really awkward angles. Not only that, but he has vicious knock out power and an insane killer instinct that gives his enemies little to no time to recover when they are hurt. Yakovchenko stood and traded with Luttinen for 3 rounds and didn’t go down though, so he shouldn’t consider striking with Usko an impossible task although I feel that grappling will be the tool to victory for him. The lightweight title is changing its owners really frequently so let’s see whether that trend continues.
