Greetings! It is me, Bel Ciganin as usual, bringing you the preview of HERO Fight Night 4. That’s right – head down to the Malmi Sportshall ASAP and take the best seats possible because this one is a must watch. We have 10 fights, stacked with talent, culminating in a fight for the bantamweight title featuring the champion Shazaam McDaniels and the challenger King Kong. The bantamweight division is as exciting as it gets and we constantly witness the title changing its possessor so will that happen again remains to be seen. Let’s take a look at what else is gonna go down before the main event:
Preliminary card
Kalle Keinonen (0-1-0) v Tarmo Uusivirta (1-0-0)
Featherweight
Keinonen lost his MMA debut due to his inability in the grappling department, but that won’t be much of a problem as Tarmo Uusivirta is a fellow striker so I expect this one will be settled on the feet.
Jack "The Jack Hammer" Miller (1-2-0) v Greg "Ollie" Oliver (1-0-0)
Bantamweight
Those two fighters are pretty evenly matched and both have an aptitude for grappling so it will be interesting to see who would make a better use of his skillset and employ a better gameplan.
Hannu Haavisto (3-2-0) v "Iron Fist" Jason Rogers (5-2-0)
Heavyweight
Now that’s the kind of fight a like – two big monsters slugging it out. Both Haavisto and Rogers hit like they have bricks instead of hands so it comes down to who can take more punishment and is more willing to lose a couple of brain cells more.
"The Fireball" Gomi Bakanori (5-3-0) v Lewis "Lights Out" Lee (0-0-0)
Lightweight
Gomi Bakanori is one of those fighters that make this sport so interesting and unique. All of his victories have come via 1st round KO’s and he does NOT turn fights down even when the odds are firmly against him. “Lights Out” Lee has yet to make his debut in MMA, but his camp says he is the next big thing and will very soon prove to be the top prospect of the division.
Avon "The Wire" Barksdale (2-0-0) v "The Carpenter" Cortland Cartwright (1-4-0)
Welterweight
Barksdale is still undefeated in his young career, submitting all of his opponents thus far. Cartwright is suffering a 3 fight losing streak and a win against this promising prospect might be just what he needs in order to revive his career.
Main Card
Eliod "Scooter" Bunkley Iii (7-7-0) v Atte "Teufel" Peltola (5-6-0)
Middleweight
Peltola and Bunkley Iii both have incredible wars behind them in the HERO cage as they have 24 fights in total under the org’s banner. Peltola dropped to middleweight as he found out he can’t get past Vihtala in order to grab the LHW belt, but so far this wasn’t the right move as he is 0-2-1. Eliod fought for the MW title recently and will look to get back to a title shot so beating Peltola is his number 1 priority at the moment.
Alan Fei Hong (6-4-0) v "Miltei" Iivana Jalo (5-1-0)
Heavyweight
It looks like Fei Hong’s best days have come and gone as some would say he is too one dimentional to make it to the title once again, but he remains a serious test for the up-and-coming heavyweights like Iivana Jalo. Jalo has finished both of his fights in HERO FC under 30 seconds by KO! His striking technique is far from flawless but he has ridiculous KO power and he is a legit threat to even much superior strikers as he makes his opponents hit the deck with a touch.
Jarkko "Duck" Vaakku (8-5-0) v Orpo Jokinen (3-0-0)
Welterweight
The Hall of Famer Jarkko Vaakku just lost a title shot and he was submitted for the first time in his career, which was a shock since submission grappling is “Duck’s” bread and butter. It will be interesting to see how he’ll respond to that loss against another great grappler – Orpo Jokinen. Jokinen is still undefeated and has serious aspirations towards the welterweight crown, but his path crossed with someone who will put his grappling to the ultimate test.
Tyson Pearson (7-3-0) v Pekka "Shorty" Pikkarainen (11-6-0)
Featherweight Co-main event
Now this is the fight everyone in the featherweight division is paying attention to. Tyson Pearson has already beaten Pikkarainen and he is improving virtually every time he steps in the cage, but “Shorty” is on a 3 fight win streak and looks better then ever as well. Both fighters are pretty close to the top so an impressive win here might give them a crack for the title and they both know how it feels to have the belt around your waist so expect them to give their all.
"Shhhhhazzzam" Shazaam McDaniels (9-5-0) v Kong King (10-2-0)
Bantamweight. Title Fight! Main Event!
Bantamweights are always incredibly entertaining to watch because of their speed and crisp technique, so what better then a main event for the bantamweight title featuring the top two fighters in that division – Shazaam McDaniels and Kong King. The challenger had a tough debut fight as he cruised to victory against one of the finest fighters on the roster – Ruslan Smirnov. That win, and his impressive showings in other organisations gained him a title shot. McDaniels is known for his heavy hands and incredible display of MMA boxing. Those were the things that led him to the championship as he scored numerous upset victories against opponents that were ment to crush him. Now that everyone knows McDaniels is here to stay, he has to face Kong King and hope to keep this standing otherwise he would be on the receiving end of a ground n pound of epic proportions.
