What an UNBELIEVEABLE Sunday night we had where we witnessed Dynamite Glove Capture the vacant Welterweight title & the Bantamweight title change! Along with this we featured many more action-packed fights! Get ready for our Glove vs. Keane Post-fight Re-cap!
In our Main event Sunday night Dynamite Glove & Roy Keane went at it for the vacant title in what was a very evenly contested fight! Dynamite Glove played a very conservative strategy in the 1st & played defense in the clinch, frustrating Roy. It wasn’t until the 2nd round where Dynamite began to find his range with punches and kicks until he was able to score the TKO midway through the round capturing the title as I predicted. He played a very intelligent game plan. He was patient & it surely paid off. It’s going to be tough overtaking this new champ!
In our Co-Main Event, Barney Rubble defended his title against challenger Albert & was defeated by Unanimous Decision! Albert showed poise outworking the champ in every area of the game & neutralized Barney’s game for 3 rounds. The story of this fight was Lopez establishing his range with the striking & picking his opponent apart from the outside & scoring late round takedowns where he could control from all positions. His landing percentage was very high & he knew he could take anything Barney gave him. He told me his goal Sunday night was to show all facets of his game. He was not looking for the finish this time. He definitely impressed. We look forward to seeing how he fares against the young challengers at 135! As for Barney Rubble, he needs to climb back up the bantamweight ladder & show he is still top 3 material!
Red Gym wasted no time against Ricky Davis, taking him down & opening Ricky up with GnP! It was a very bloody fight right from the beginning, in fact one of the bloodiest we’ve had thus far! The fight was eventually stopped due to TKO. Ricky was simply outclassed here & our fans? Thoroughly disgusted! We’ll see whose next for Red Gym on his road to the title. After that display of dominance & horror, I’m not so sure anyone is clamoring to fight this guy. As for Ricky, he’ll need to take some time off to heal. When he’s cleared to train, we’ll see what’s next for him! Entertaining fight!
Sunday’s event was very exciting! One of the reasons why we loved it was because they weren’t all quick: 10 knockouts! In fact, many of our fights went the distance in what were back & forth battles! The first of which took place in the Welterweight division as Bruce Alvarez Banner took on William Joseph! In the first round both fighters battled for position in the clinch until Bruce was able to secure a takedown. Bruce maintained position & unloaded strike to seal him the round. It was more of the same as the Elite wrestler took William down & controlled him for the entire round. The final round looked identical to the previous 2 rounds with Bruce taking his opponent down, throwing punches & threatening with submissions. William provided very little offense from his back & was simply outgrappled. It was just a bad matchup for the young fighter. Hopefully we get to see what William can do in his next outing. As for Bruce, let’s work a little harder for the finish, will ya! Just kidding. Banner’s wrestling will be a pain to deal with for anyone!
Another battle at 170 between Joey Bolton & Kazushi Sakuraba took place & to tell to the truth, put everyone in the arena to sleep. It was a grueling & tactical matchup that took place almost entirely in the clinch. Joey game-planned very well & utilized his skills in the clinch to land knees to the body of Sakuraba. I took a look at the fight stats on Imperial & it shows Joey landing 72 of 85 knees to the body & head! Unbelievable that Sakuraba was able withstand that kind of attack. That will definitely hurt for a while. As for Joey, I’m sure he’s going to be quite sore himself throwing all those knees. He should take a break from drilling those I say. Either way, a very commendable win for Joey. We look forward to seeing him in the future.
We continue on in the Welterweight division once again as Nelson Muntz took on Jordan De Wilde. Round 1 presented us with a beautiful display of striking from the two with Muntz slightly edging De Wilde. In round 2, Jordan decided to switch it up & take it to the ground – perhaps a smart strategy considering how close their skills are standing. Nelson would have nothing & made it clear he was the matador in this fight. Nelson hits a beautiful sweep & stands the fight back up where they continue their back and forth striking battle. In the 3rd, sensing desperation, Jordan initiates a more aggressive wrestling game but in the end, it was too little too late as Nelson Muntz takes home the unanimous decision! Perhaps he should fight one of the winners from Sunday night. That should put him near the top for title contention!
Boy, were there a slew of exciting welterweight matches on this card & this one was no different! Albert Hitchenfrog came into this fight against Jim Carlo with something to prove & he did not disappoint. Jim utilized his Exceptional wrestling to take down and control Albert for much of the 1st round; he didn’t allow Albert even a chance to relax! However, Albert was able to establish his pace in the second & use his reach to maintain distance until he could clinch up & do some damage! Albert landed a nice knee midway through the 2ndwhich cut Jim pretty good. I believe from that point on Jim got a bit worried which led to him getting reckless. Albert was able to work Jim over in the clinch for the remainder of the fight, earning him the unanimous decision! I think UD’s are becoming a trend with these welterweights!
We take a short break away from the welterweights & move on to some middleweight action as “The Genius” Roberto Amongero took on Ronnie Castillo! This fight seemed like almost a mismatch on paper but in this game, you never know what’s going to happen! Both men came out in the center of the cage but it was Ronnie who wasted no time in clinching up against the sensation al boxer. From there he went to work and displayed excellent control & striking from the inside, landing brutal knees to the head & body – one of which cut Roberto wide open! This fight was very hard to watch, especially since Roberto received a royal beating in the clinch for 3 rounds. He will need to work on this area of his game because I’d hate to see him get hurt again! Ronnie on the other hand played it smart, & fought where he knew he had the advantage. One thing is for sure, I wouldn’t want to be the next guy trapped in that death plum of his!
We return to the Welterweight division where Buster Cherry & Ava Noel went toe-to-toe. By the way, what an interesting name, Buster Cherry. Is this a metaphor for what it looks like after he beats you up? You know, a busted cherry….or am I missing the context? Anyhow, these two matched up extremely well with Buster being the wrestler & Ava being the BJJ brown belt. Buster shot in immediately after the bell & took Ava down. Ava was right at home; chaining submission after submission, looking to perhaps take an arm home with him but Buster’s control was just too much! Buster was just too strong. He just controlled from half guard & from there Ava was helpless, defending strikes against the cage! The ref had eventually seen enough & was forced to step in awarding Buster Cherry with the TKO victory. That GnP is tough to deal with especially when it’s coming from a powerful man like Buster. Ava just couldn’t do anything. I’m sure with the right matchup we can see his Jiu-jitsu really shine.
Our final review takes us to the middleweight division as Bruno Sailo took on Jens Schmidt! We had many decisions take place Sunday night but this one ended quickly for Submission of the Night earner, Bruno Sailo. Bruno executed a take down immediately following the bell & was relentless with submission attempts. He obviously game planned well for his opponent, Jens who spent the entire time in defense mode. Schmidt did have his moments during the brief period they were on the feet but it was ALL Bruno as he secured another quick take down into side control ending the fight with a slick arm-triangle choke! You can tell how confident Bruno is with his ground game! Definitely a man on a mission & one to watch in the future!
So all in all let’s count them. 6 decisions, 4 of which took place at 170, 3 TKO’s & 1 Submission! It also seems we had a mini welterweight tournament take place as well. I’m excited to see these new contenders move up. They’re young & talented superstars. The future looks promising for us! Stay tuned for our next show, CCOR XXII which takes place March 13th! We feature lots of new and exciting fighters! You don’t want to miss this!
