BFT - 196 Hans vs Choake 2 Review

Lightweight - Spar Bjj submitted Juarez "El Nino" Del Fuago with a kimura at 4:34 in round 2.

Spar started the fight with a bang. He went for the high kick right away, then dove right into a takedown. And from there, the two of them went into a full on grappling match. I mean these two guys were rolling around like pigs in mud. They would just go at it. Bjj looked like he was going to finish it with an armbar, but then Del Fuago got on top. But even on his back, he was more active than Del Fuago. He threw up 5 submissions there compared to Del Fuago's 2, and he was able to prevent Del Fuago from landing any ground and pound. The second round started and Bjj brought things right back to the mat. From there he was landing ground and pound while defending off the submission attempts. It looked like Del Fuago was defending the attempts well too... well except for the kimura. Just as the round was ending, Bjj locked in a tight kimura and was able to finish him. A great grappling match for all those fans out there.

Who can be next for Spar Bjj? He's currently riding a 3 fight winning streak. I think a fight with "Fishbowl could be fun. A big name like that could produce sparks. Otherwise, a match with another man on the card, one Sergei Cosixen, could be interesting.

Middleweight - Former title challenger Gary "Take That" Barlow submitted Joe "Joe" Williams with a rear naked choke at 4:55 in round 1.

This fight started off with the guys hitting the mat. Williams was on top, and throwing the ground and pound, hoping for that one big shot. You've got to give it to Barlow, some of those shots were pretty nasty. But he took it in stride, and was able to hold off and was working on some submissions. The round was almost over and Barlow knew he was down. He went for a long shot: the rear naked. It was close; Williams didn't look like he was in that much trouble right away. But Barlow really cranked it in there and was able to get the comeback finish! Wow!

Who could be next for Gary Barlow? Rematches with Miau Subsi or Amir Khan sound entertaining. Young up-and-comer Hermio Junior certainly would be a challenge, for both men. Another good challenge could be Lucas Rodriguez.

Lightweight - Former Welterweight Champ and BFT Hall of Famer Guilherme "Buscape" Alves Unanimous Decisioned two time lightweight challenger "The Tiny Bear" Sergei Cosixen.

Alves wanted to make a statement on his return to BFT and he sure did. Right away in the first round he was able to get into the clinch and land some serious punishment on Cosixen. A nice elbow had cut Sergei open. Alves really looked in control in the clinch. That's not to say that Cosixen didn't land a few good shots. He certainly did, but Alves really looked more comfortable there. He was even able to get a takedown on the round's end. The second round picked up, and Alves wanted to start where they left off in the first. He was quick to get the takedown. He was able to work over a little ground and pound over him while trying for a few submission attempts. The third round looked more like the second round. He was able to hold him down and have his way with him. It really was a great home comming for Alves. He seemed very greatful for his fans in attendence and overjoyed to be back in BFT in his post fight speech.

Who can be next for "Buscape?" This guy is great. He really has shown himself time and time again in BFT. I say he deserves the winner of Atsushi-Vimes. A fight with Mohammed Ul Haq would also be interesting. Or a fight with another lightweight winner on tonight's card, Spar Bjj. Of corse, being a 3 division fighter, he could just as easily be fighting in another division for his next one.

Co-Main - Heavyweight - Two time former title challenger "Broomstick" Dingo Monster Knocked out Nathan "The Rage" Cadge with strikes at 2:53 in round 2.

Monster was loving this fight, it played right into his hands. He was able to get the clinch in the first right away, landed a few good shots, and took things to the ground. On the mat, not too much happened. They both were working on things, but neither one of them were really able to get anywhere with it. The second round got going, and Monster brought things to the clinch once more. And from there he got off. Dirty Boxing, Muay Thai. Cadge had no response for any of it. Monster kept on it with the knees. He landed one to the head and opened up a solid cut. One to the body sent him to the mat. One more to the head sent him to the hospital. Some strong work from Monster.

Who could be next for Dingo Monster? Well, with the uncertainty of Hagen Germanicus and the Heavyweight Title right now, a title shot does not seem likely. A test of his stand up could be with Jason Hannibal to see where he sits. Frank Mr, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, and Josh Barnett could provide in entertaining grappling matches. If he wants a real test, sorces say that Tap Out is free.

Main Event - Welterweight Title! - Champ Super Hans Submitted Former Welterweight Champ "The Kracken" Jermaine Choake with a triangle choke at 35 seconds in round 5 for his fourth title defence.

Woo. Hans looked like he wanted to finish things in the first at the distance right away. He was swinging like there was no tomorrow. Choake took advantage of that and caught him off gaurd with a takedown. From there he was able to work him over with some solid ground and pound. Hans was active, looking for some solid submissions, but nothing stuck. With confidence in his pocket, Choake came out in the second and brought things right back down to the mat. Choake was able to get things back to the way he wanted. He was on top, landing punches, and trying to finish things with submissions. Things didn't look good for Hans. He couldn't make the transition to top, and he tried signifigantly less submissions. The third round started and Hans was doing everything he could to bring on some pain. He was swinging like crazy at the distance, but Choake was able to take things back to the mat. And things continued to look as they had for the rounds before. Both guys looked like they really wanted to finish things, but neither one of them could get anything. This just shows the level of difficulty in the competition. The fourth round looked a lot like the other three. Choake was able to get things into the clinch for a while, but Hans took more advantage of that than Choake. I mean, Choake really looked in control. For the last round, it looked like Choake was going to go on cruise control and just get the decision. But when Choake took things to the ground, Hans had slapped on a triangle right away. The takedown helped the triangle tighter. One smooth choke ended things for Choake.  I mean damn. He was so far out of the fight it wasn't funny. That's why you don't count out the champ. He now ties Pauli Painija for the most consecutive title defences at welterweight.

What's next for the champ Super Hans? My money is on Chumba Wumba. He's been looking real good recently. Although not quite ready yet ( or at least I don't feel like he is quite ready yet), Hussak Claw might be a guy to keep an eye on. And of corse, Guilherme Alves could always make the move back to welterweight to go for the title. I suppose if none of those options work for Super Hans, he could even move down to lightweight for a fight or two.
