CEC 267 PREVIEW

Hello everyone.  We have two title fights for you at this stunning event.  The Main Event features the 205lbs title on the line when Harri Mulqvist and Ossi Jokinen go head to head and our Co-Main Event pits David Lemiuex and Zhao Zhuo against each other having been the two fighters to make it to the final of our 170lbs tournament.

Co-Main Event

David Lemieux v Zhao Zhuo

The time has come for a new champion in the 170lbs division.  The top eight fighters were all invited to take part in a small tournament after Mulroon Deforz moved up in weight and vacated the title.  Lemieux has actually been here before when he took on Deforz back at CEC 239,  a loss in that fight was merely a setback as he is back once again for a second bite at the cherry.  He got to the final of the tournament by firstly earning a unanimous decision win over Mag Ne and then knocking out the very dangerous Rampe Rovio.  Zhuo has also been impressive in the tournament though and will fancy his chances of taking the belt home with him.  Antti Kantola was the first victim when the referee had to stop the fight due to strikes towards the end of the first round.  After that it was time for Zhuo to show his versatility when he took Flo Wer to the mat and despite being reversed managed to slap on an incredibly tight triangle that put his opponent to sleep.  And that brings us to the last two standing.  They met before at CEC 257,  Zhuo made his debut but it was Lemieux that controlled the fight from start to brutal finish.  Is revenge on the cards or will we witness a similar end to what should be a cracking fight.

Main Event

Harri Mulqvist v Ossi Jokinen

Two of the best light-heavyweight fighters to grace mma face off in one of the biggest fights that CEC has ever hosted.  Harri Mulqvist is well known to CEC fans,  his popularity is unrivaled here and after 37 fights it would be impossible to not like the man.  His commitment and loyalty towards the org is commendable,  when he was struggling to capture the title there was never a thought of leaving for an easier challenge elsewhere and as we know his perseverance paid off big time.  Ossi Jokinen on the other hand is a new arrival to CEC,  a massive signing for us leads to this fantastic fight for the 205lbs strap.  I myself am hoping for a full five rounds of non-stop action and that may very well happen but we also have to consider the fact that both men are capable of ending the fight before then.  The stats would show that a Mulqvist win is most likely to come in the form of a submission but Jokinen has only lost that way once when he tapped out due to a triangle choke.  By the same token,  a Jokinen win is most likely to come by knockout according to his previous stats but Mulqvist has only been finished twice in this fashion so 25 minutes of full on action is not out the realms of possibility.  A prediction?  Well I certainly wouldn't want to join the thousands of people that are split roughly 50:50 on this one,  that is the beauty of our wonderful sport,  anything can happen.  Whoever wins is likely to have Noel Smith standing waiting on them,  which then brings us to yet another fantastic fight but that talk is for another time.
