SteelPenn - XXXIX Preview

Albert Hitchenfrog v Nelson Muntz
Kicking off the night is Hitchenfrog v Muntz. Muntz has to be considered the favorite here. He is the bigger, stronger fighter. He also has better boxing, wrestling and BJJ. In addition he will probably be the crowd’s pick, having more hype and popularity thanks to nine of Muntz’s ten wins being by knockout. If Hitchenfrog can avoid the big punch he has shown repeatedly that he has the gas to go the distance, and he does have an advantage in the Muay Thai department. Look for him to work Muntz body and legs, cut Muntz’s energy and ability to move, and then hang on for a decision.
Prediction: Muntz KO

Alberto Lopez v Gibson Rickenbacker v.2
Look for this one to end early folks. It’s the classic matchup of striker vs. grappler. Lopez has enough boxing skill to defend himself from punches, but is woefully outclassed in Muay Thai. Lopez does have an advantage in both wrestling and BJJ, but his wrestling advantage is only a small one, and Rickenbacker’s purple belt promises to make subbing him a solid challenge. Add to that the fact that Lopez has yet to see the end of round three, and that 56% of Rickenbacker’s wins come from stoppages and it all equates to a short, violent night for Lopez.
Prediction: Rickenbacker KO

Remy Growwoo v Chuck Fuck Tito
A great matchup between two seasoned veterans here. 58 fights between them and still counting. The fighters are pretty even all the way around. Tito with slight advantages in boxing, wrestling and BJJ, Growwoo has a slight advantage in Muay Thai, and is coming into the fight with a solid morale boost. He will also be the crowd favorite almost assuredly. This fight is a solid pick ‘em where anything could happen. Both men have knockout power and are close enough in skill that both men are sure to be expecting a victory.
Prediction: Growwoo decision

John Kennedy v Pablo Sir
A solid 205lbs competition here. Sir has a belt advantage in BJJ, but Kennedy is quite capable on the mat. Kennedy has advantages in Muay Thai and Wrestling and will probably want to use the advantage to keep Sir up against the cage to beat him up with elbows and knees. Sir will almost certainly be looking for a submission win here which he can definitely obtain… IF he can get Kennedy onto the mat.
Prediction: Kennedy decision

Bull Dog v Jack Estripador
This is the closest fight so far on the card. Estripador has an advantage in MT, but Dog has an almost matching advantage in wrestling. Both are headhunters who look for the knockout and aren’t afraid to take a punch in order to give one. What makes the difference to me is the number of KO losses. Estripador has been knocked out 7 times, accounting for almost half of his losses. Bull Dog has only been knocked out twice. I see his jaw carrying him to victory.
Prediction: Bull Dog KO.

Jade Malikai v James Sahebt
Another close fight between two fighters who are both around the .500 mark here. Malikai shows a slight deficiency in boxing, but makes up for it with an advantage in Muay Thai, then raises with an advantage in BJJ. The crowd will almost certainly be pulling for Malikai to win this one as well. Look for Malikai to use his BJJ advantage to try to gain the win via submission, but it’s uncertain whether he will ever be able to get Sahebt to the ground.
Prediction: Sahebt decision

Akseli Suokuokka v Max Caschera
This, at least on paper, may be the most one sided fight of the card. Suokuokka has solid advantages in boxing and wrestling. He’s definitely the more popular fighter and comes in with his head held quite high. Expect him to take the crowd energy and his high confidence and turn it into an aggressive fight. That said you can’t count Caschera out at all. He has a brown belt in BJJ and most of his wins come from submissions. His game plan is probably to take advantage of his opponent’s aggressiveness and turn it against him with a flash submission victory.
Prediction: Suokuokka decision.

Jim Tags v Al Kaholic
The 4-1 Kaholic faces his toughest challenge yet in the heavyweight division. This fight pits two up and coming fighters and should be an exciting match. Tags is 2-0 with a pair of impressive knockout wins and lethal Muay Thai. Kaholic’s wins have all come by KO and he has an advantage in boxing. Will the two slug it out until one of them collapses? Maybe not. Kaholic is a white belt in BJJ, while Tags’ belt is purple. If the fight goes to the ground look for Tags to pick up a quick submission victory.
Prediction: Tags KO

Jack Daniels v Gandalf Grey
The co-main event features two newer fighters. Daniels is 4-1 with a brown belt in BJJ and all of his wins via submission. Grey is an extremely talented young fighter, with a record of 4-0 and three knockouts to his credit. Grey has solid advantages in boxing, muay thai, wrestling, and has a truckload of confidence coming into the fight. Look for him to throw bombs early and often. The one advantage Daniels has is in BJJ, but that advantage is LARGE. If Daniels can get the fight on the mat somehow he’ll pick up a very quick submission victory.
Prediction: Grey decision

Buer Eremiel v Jake The
The main event has two very talented and established fighters in the light heavyweight division. Ermiel has a slight boxing advantage and all of his stoppages have been by knockout. Jake has proven he can submit an opponent as well as knock someone out. This is easily the most even fight of the night. Look for the crowd to be pulling for Jake, and I see him using that energy to carry the day. That said, this fight is incredibly close and if the two men fought five fights it would almost certainly finish 3-2.
Prediction: Jake decision
