BFT 220: PRIDE Never Die! 6 on PAY PER VIEW Review

Over the Course of the last weekend, July 21st, long time Sydney organization had their first forray into PPV territory and hit it with a smash. The 1 hour long pay per view event was able to rack in over 12000 buys to compliment the sold out 10000 in attendence to watch the spectacle of four current BFT champions battle it out to see who the better fighters were. With all of this going on around these fights, this event was able to bring in BFT's highest rating to date at 392, just shy of the 400 mark. Let's dive on in and take a look at the spectacular fights that took place.

Undercard!

Middleweight - Recent BFT Middleweight Title Challenger "Panther" Darren Sparks (15-11, 6-2 BFT, 3X BFT Bonus Winner) knocked out long time BFT and overall fight vet. Richie Yang (20-26, 5-9 BFT, 3x BFT Bonus Winner) with strikes at 4:43 in round 1.

Things got started and these two were swinging back and forth. Richie Yang was throwing hard and often and it looked like Sparks wan't the happiest with that. Yang switched things up and went into the clinch quickly. Yang was throwing knees like there was no tomorrow. It was like he was ready to break Sparks in half with the knees he was throwing up there. They were able to break up and throw at the distance more. Sparks semed a lot more on top of the striking there, but Yang was still pushing forward so much. Yang rushed the clinch again and went for some more knees, but Sparks was finding a home for his shots now. Sparks was able to break the clinch off and then put Yang up against the cage. Yang was a lot more active without the cage on his back and was landing some serious shots. Sparks broke the clinch up and pushed forwar with a solid 1-2 combo that had Yang hurd bad. Sparks goes for the head kick, but misses and gets Yang wobbly with a solid combination. Sparks jumped ontop of Yang with some knees and punches which crippled Yang. The ref jumped in to stop the fight and Sparks held his head high thanking his sponsor, CEC Nutrition Q160.

What's next for "Panther"? It was great for Sparks to get back into the win column, but it will take more than that for him to get another shot at the title. Recent BFT acquisition Trevor Smith would provide an excellent fight for "Panther." Perhaps if Ben Zanotto or Hermio Junior win their next fights, they could be excellent competition for Sparks as well.

Heavyweight - The man on a mission, with a 5-fight winning streak, "The Freak" Brock Lesnar (8-1, 5-1 BFT) KO'ed BFT raised fighter "Rat" January Kwiecinski (6-11, 6-11 BFT) with strikes at 4:58 in round 1.

As the fight got underway, it was clear that Brock Lesnar was not comfortable on the feet. January Kwiecinski was having fun throwing what ever he had in his arcenal and most shots found thier home. After taking some serious shots, Lesnar dove down for the takedown and wanted to lay on top of Kwiecinski. January was trying to get up but lesnar was able to keep him down and land some punches from the side control. Lesnar went for a few submission attempts, but nothing was spectacular. Kwiecinski was trying to make some space and move out of side control, but nothing came of it. Lesnar worked on a few more shots before he was able to move into full mount. From there, he was landing the ground and pound until January was limp and the ref HAD to jump in. Brock Lensar was overjoyed with his victory and thanked all the fans for their support.

What's next for Lesnar? I am still rallying for fights against guys like Alistair Overeem and Josh Barnett. "Big Nog" Nogueira has seemed unbeatable as of recent, but so has Brock.

Middleweight - The 18th ranked Middleweight in KT Tarik Gibson (8-1, 2-0 BFT, 1x BFT Bonus Winner) KO'ed the former BFT Middleweight Champion, debuting at BFT - 1, Damian Nitschke (21-14-1, 21-14-1 BFT, 10x BFT Bonus Winner) with a head kick at 1:28 in round 1.

Oh lordy, Gibson came out a swinging. Nitschke tried to take things down early, but he only took a few punches to his face. Nitschke gave up on the takedowns and Gibson was all over him. A solid hook opened a cut on Damian and fear in his corner of Gibson's striking. Seeing blood, Tarik became a shark and swarmed all over him. A couple of solid strikes sent to rock Nitschke and head kick sent him to the hospital. He was outta there.

What's next for Tarik? He likes to get knock outs, so why not give him someone else that likes to get some knock outs. Peekay Williams and Antoine Dodson come to mind immediately. An earlier winner Darren Sparks could easily be another opponent for Gibson.

Middleweight - The Former BFT welterweight champ "The Kraken" Jermiane Choake (20-8, 12-3 BFT, 10x BFT Bonus Winner) submit the former BFT Middleweight Champ and former BFC Welterweight Champ Akihito "Rikiya" Tatsuhiko Jr. (23-15, 14-9 BFT, 6x BFT Bonus Winner) with a rear naked choke in his first venture to 185 at 26 seconds in the first round.

A bout between former champs finished immensely fast. Choake came in, took things down, got Tatsuhiko to tap, and went to go watch the rest of the fights. Fury Nutrition Inc., Choake's sponsor, got more air time from Choake than it took him to finish Tatsuhiko.

What's next for Former Champ Choake? He finished off the rubber match nicely, so I would definately say not Akihito. Although I liked him fighting at 185, it looks like Choake is going back to Welterweight. I think it's too soon for a rematch with Hans just yet, but a rematch with Guilherme Alves could be a good go around. Curtis Sharp could be fun. A rematch with Jake Shields can be on the table.

Light Heavyweight - Promotional newcomer and former CFA Light Heavyweight title challenger "Oziel" Nicandro Aloisio (12-2, 1-0 BFT) KO'ed BFT Light Heavyweight Champion, Heavyweight Champion, and Hall of Famer Jake the Snake (20-10, 17-9 BFT, 9x BFT Bonus Winner) with a knee at 3:32 in round 2.

Everytime The Snake fights, he always has a target on his back, being a Hall of Famer. Aloisio was no exception. The Snake landed a few nice shots before moving things into the clinch. In there, he tried to take the afression, but Aloisio was not threatened. Aloisio went forward and brought it to Snake. The two of these guys went at it very agressively. Snake was stalling a little and the ref broke them up. Aloisio brought things back into the clinch soon after and cut Snake open with a hard knee to the head. From there, Aloisio went all out throwin eberything he could in the clinch. The Snake was obviously not comfortable there and was trying to stall out of it, but Aloisio wouldn't let that happen. After watching Jake get hit in the clinch for about 5 minutes or so, it was clear that an uppercut from Nicandro hurt him. He tried to finish The Snake, but that's not an easy task to do. Jake was able to make it out of the round, but I was hurting by watching the beating he took in the first round. The second round got started and Aloisio wanted to be back in the clinch quickly. It was more of the same from Aloisio. Things looked really bad for the Snake and weren't getting any better. Aloisio unleased a massive knee and it just made the Snake limp. Like it scary how hurt he was. The crowd was silent until they took Snake out of there.

What's next for Nicandro Aloisio? A lot of people actually. A great addition to the roster. We're looking at Trinidad Suarez, Floyd Pacquiao, and Bob Saddi in particular. But really, he would have a great fight with anyone at 205.

Main Card!!

Heavyweight - Undefeated in BFT "Big Nog" Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (12-1, 10-0 BFT, 3x BFT Bonus Winner) knocked out the former BFT Heavyweight Champion Laguna "Buzzsaw" Lunaris (16-3, 16-3 BFT, 1x BFT Bonus Winner) with a cut at 3:55 at round 1.

"Big Nog" was in no mood for Laguna's clinch shannanigans. He went and took things down as soon as Laguna tried to close the distance. Nogueira was able to get into side control. He was then pushing the pace and Lunaris was uncomfortable and Noguira was capitalizing on that. He made his way to full mount and was throwing down the ground and pound. An armbar attempt sent him back to side control, nbut that was more than enough for him. The short shots were starting to cut Lunaris and the ref had seen enough to bring the doc in. The doc said he had seen enough and call it off.

What's next for "Big Nog"? Owner of a 12 fight winning streak, it's hard ot deny Antonio his title shot against Hagen Germanicus. Otherwise... Josh Barnett?

Light Heavyweight - Three time Light Heavyweight Title Challenger Titus "Tko" Kahoohalphala (13-7, 11-7 BFT, 3x BFT Bonus Winner) submit the former Light Heavyweight Champion for BFT and TCA Shananigan Lurendrejer (15-4, 10-3 BFT, 5x BFT Bonus Winner) with strikes at 4:41 in round 1.

The fight got started and Lurendrejer took things to the mat right away. "Tko"" stayed calm and capitalized on a scramble to put himself on top. He was staying cative and was chipping away at Lurendrejer with strikes and a submission attempt. Kahoohalphala stayed active an slowly progressed from the gaurd to full mount. From there it was only a matter of time before he found a way to finish it. The ground and pound was finding a home nicely. It split Lurendrejer open and a few more had Lurendrejer tapping.

What's next for the perennial contender? Titus is now 1-2 against Lurendrejer. Although I am sure they will fight a few more times, I don't think it will be too soon. I'm going to go ahead and say Trinidad Suarez. Otherwise, I guess a third go around with MacMillan could happen.

Heavyweight - The former Bellum Heavyweight title Challenger Gunnar Jensen (14-4, 2-0 BFT, 1x BFT Bonus Winner) KO'ed the former DUFF and CFA Heavyweight Champion and CFA Openweight Champion "Fat pig" Kim Jong (16-5 ,3-3 BFT, 2x BFT Bonus Winner) with a Head Kick at 4:07 in round 2.

Jensen came out like he had something to prove. He went at it until Jong clinched things. Jong was able to capitalize the positioning, but Jensen was able to break things off. Jong hopped right back into the clinch ahdn was throwing often and hard, to both the body and the head. Jensen was taking a few too many shots until he broke the clinch off. That was short lived as well, and Jong brought the fight back to the clinch. Jong stayed active and was landing some solid shots. The two of them stayed in there for a solid 5 minutes until the round came to the end. The second round got started and Jensen stayed much more active at the distance. He was also much more observant of the position of Jong and was able to make him stay the distance with him. Jensen got into a rhythm and knocked down Jong with a solid combo. He didn't see the head kick come in and well... it's the ones you don't see that really get you. You really got to give it up to Jensen; he and his corner were able to take the best of a bad situation, learn what was going wrong, and adapted a plan to help him thrive.

What's next for Gunnar? It looks like there's something in the works for him already. I say it's Jason Hannibal, but we'll find out soon enough.

Pay Per View!!!

Co-Main - Light Heavyweight - The BFT Light Heavyweight Champion "Lone Star" Dallas MacMillan (15-5, 12-2 BFT, 7x BFT Bonus Winner) KO'ed the BFT Middleweight Champion  and Former Boomerang Lightweight and Welterweight Champion Chev Chelios (20-9-1, 10-5, 2x BFT Bonus Winner) with a head kick at 2:19 in round 2.

The first go around of the Champs provided the MacMillan was all over Chelios. The two of them were throwing a lot of kicks to start, but MacMillan's head kick was a lot more impactful and cut open Chev. Dallas clinched thing up for a while and really opened up against Chelios. Chelios broke it up and moved at the distance. Chelios was starting to get into a groove a little bit, but then MacMillan switched things up and started to move forward more. He decided to clinch things up again and that was not what Chelios wanted. MacMillan's knees were being thrown like rice at a wedding. It was clear that Chelios was not enjoying the clinch game, but there wasn't much that he could do to get out of there. MacMillan had him tied up against the cage and it was just painful. Credit to Chelios though; a lesser man would have caved in to such a punishing barrage of knees. The second round got started and MacMillan found his way into the clinc again. He was stalling a bit more this time, but the knees were still underway. Chelios was able to break the clinch. He was gaining confidence and landing some nice shots. But MacMillan was biding for time and saw his opening on a body punch with a huge head kick. That one sent Chelios down and had him struggled to catch his breath. Fury Nutrition Inc. recieved some more love as the crowd was crazy about the finish they just saw.

What now for the Light Heavyweight Champ? A big ole pat on the back I say. To defend his title, Titus Kahoohalphala and Trinidad Suarez seem right up there. Although, with all the superfights afoot, a go around with Hagen Germanicus could be thrown out there.

Main Event - Lightweight - The BFT Lightweight Champion "Kana" Kuroda Atsushi (24-6-1, 15-4-1 BFT, 13x BFT Bonus Winner) Unanimous Decisioned the BFT Welterweight Champion Super Hans (19-7, 19-7 BFT, 11x BFT Bonus Winner).

These two champs have been danggerious in their divisions for quite some time. Atsushi was making his moves at the distance before taking the fight down into side control. Atsushi was in dangerous territory Hans was actively looking for submissions and was trying to regain control in this bad situation. He mad it to half gaurd, but was struggling to get to full gaurd with Atsushi bringing down the ground and pound. I mean Hans was really working had on those submissions and was wiggling around trying to make any opening that he could, but Atsushi was all over it and able to keep things in tight. He was constantly denying Hans the ability to hold control of the fight for a prolonged amount of time. Hans never gave in no matter how bad the situation got, just as you would expect from a champion. Hans was able to get out of the round, but it was clear that he wasn't happy with how that one went. When the second round got started, Atsushi got to work and took Hans right back down to the mat. He started in guard, but that didn't last too long. He kept up the good work he started in the last round. Hans worked away at submissions but Atsushi acted as though he had seen it all before. He was active enough with his ground and pound to keep the fight on the ground, but he wasn't active enough to really do a hullava lot of damage to Hans. These two guys went to the score cards, the first time the judges saw some activity for the night and everyone knew who had won that fight. Kuroda Atsushi was able to fight his way to a decision over a hard champion in Super Hans.

What's next for the Lightweight Champ? Looks like that's been taken care of already. Enrico Mazzarri has the next shot at the lightweight title. After that fight though, after a solid win over the dangerous Super Hans, a dive into the 170 pool could be reasonable.
