Syn' 248: 2 FACED Event Preview

Event Preview: Syn' 248: 2 FACED
Synchronicity
2013-08-09, Las Vegas, MMA Grand
Author:Louie DePalma

Greetings everyone and welcome once again as we present to you Syn’ 248: 2 FACED.  Tonight’s event will be a great follow up to this past Wednesday’s show which garnered the company an Event Rating of 536.98 as 16,522 adoring fans made their way into the MMA Grand and another 128,336 fans watched from the comfort of their own homes live on PPV.  Like always our show tonight is brought to you by our Merchandise Partner Reaper Combatwear.  Here is a list of those who will be appearing in action in our Prelims.

Preliminary Matchups

205 lbs Division          Mike McKinley v Iosef Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili

265 lbs Division          Rob Sparger v Jacques Deupreaux

155 lbs Division          Takanori Gomi v Hachiro Matsui

170 lbs Division          Marco North v Cliff Harris

265 lbs Division          Konstantin Magomedov v Stash Kadowski

And now onto our Main Card of exciting action

205 lbs Division          Michael Corleone v Logan Sackett

Beginning the action on our Main card tonight is a Light Heavyweight matchup between Michael Corleone and Logan Sackett.  Both of these veteran warriors come into action tonight looking to find their way back to the winning side of the equation as Corleone is currently riding a 2 fight losing streak while Sackett lost his last matchup.  This tussle boasts 2 fighters who are almost identical in appearance as long as you look the other way when comparing their Boxing abilities with Sackett clearly holding the advantage in that department.  Corleone is mainly a Muay Thai fighter showing very little interest in throwing any punches leaving his legs to do his talking for him while Sackett likes to be more diverse and spread out his offence allowing him to be more unpredictable.  Both of these combatants like to bang as the 26 KO victories between them will attest and they have both shown that they are open to being KO'd which is what I predict will take place in this one.  Corleone lost a brutal war against recently crowned Syn LHW Champ Christian Nolan in this companies return to prominence back at Syn' 241: Backspace when he was forced to tap out due to strikes.  Meanwhile Sackett appeared the following night at Syn' 242: Recovery and had that fight stopped early in round 1 by way of TKO Strikes.  Both these fighters want to avoid another L on their record and will look to show Syn Management they are here to stay.

265 lbs Division          Yedo Kim v Walter Kurtz

Next up in the Heavyweight Division we see a matchup between 2 monsters as Yedo Kim takes on Walter Kurtz.  Like our previous matchup both fighters come into this one on losing streaks.  Yedo is making his Syn debut tonight following the closure of ONI in Tokyo and word has it his manager has been pushing him real hard to make a good first impression in his new home.  Staring Kim down from the other side of the cage is former UPG NY HW Walter Kurtz and much like Kim he will stop at nothing to avoid a second consecutive loss in this one.  Yedo Kim holds an overwhelming Height and reach advantage in this one and also almost 30 lbs over Kurtz however the question remains will that really be an advantage or will it pose as the opposite?  Both fighter possess outstanding standup skills as Kurtz has won all 11 of his career Pro fights by way of TKO or KO but what is even more impressive is Yedo's 25 TKO/KO's in his 29 career wins.   Kim shows the ability to mix things up and has shown a decent defensive game when on the ground but we don’t expect to see this one end up there as neither Kurtz or Kim have shown much interest in that aspect of the fight during the lead up to this one.  Kurtz is the young gun looking to take out the cagey veteran, but will his abilities continue to do so, stay tuned to find out!

265 lbs Division          Devin Styles v DeAngelo Kenner

Staying in the HW Division we have a 5 round matchup between Devin Styles and DeAngelo Kenner.  Why 5 rounds some might ask, well when contacted via email on the topic Synchronicity Owner Louie DePalma had very little to say in reply, however when contacted later in the evening by a front office intern word leaked out that the fight was booked while owner Louie was in the middle of a drunken bender and must have been asleep at the wheel and folks there is no changing it now.  Now that that is out of the way let’s get back to the fight itself as we see our first main card battle take place between 2 fighters coming off wins in their last fights as Styles had an impressive debut with the company at Syn' 244: Road Block causing a doctors stoppage against Ethan Clayton which was his 3rd consecutive victory meanwhile  Kenner won by way of TKO on the same night taking out Roger Freedman.  Both these behemoths want to cement their place in the HW rankings and take one step closer to hopefully one day challenging and ultimately wearing the Syn HW Championship.  Kenner holds a slight edge in both Muay Thai and Wrestling and appears to enjoy battling on the ground with his 2 Submission victories scattered in to compliment his 13 TKO/KO wins while Styles is no stranger to the KO world as his records shows 12 victories as well by way of TKO/KO.  This one has the makings of KO of the night, or perhaps Kenner will even try and sneak in a Sub victory when Styles isn’t looking!

265 lbs Division          Evander Holyshit v Autumn Hunter

We are now ready for our Co Main Event of the evening that sees a rematch of the Main Event of Syn 244: Roadblock between Evander Holyshit and Autumn Hunter.  In that epic battle these 2 warriors slugged out a 3 round draw that sent the HW Division into Chaos knowing that Champion Budo Rei was soon to return.  That matchup saw all three judges score the fight exactly the same, 28-28 as Holyshit held the advantage on the ground while Hunter was the more dominant stand up fighter, but that all added up to nothing but a kiss your sister on the lips draw.  Both fighters will surely look to expose the advantage they held in their previous meeting but only time will tell who will be the more dominant fighter in their attempts to impose their will on the foe facing them from the other side of the cage.  Word out of Holyshits camp recently is they are more then alittle frustrated with the judging in past Syn’ events as Manager shortfuse_nWo has now had 2 of his fighters battle to draws in recent weeks.  I am sure the mood is very much the same in Hunters camp as like Holyshit, he wants to show he belongs at the top end of Syn’s talented HW Division.  There is more than just pride and a chance at redemption riding on this one, as both fighters are vying for a shot at the winner of tonight’s Main Event and the Syn HW Crown.  This Stacked card will surely see the landscape on the Heavyweight division take a more clear shape and we are to say the least quite excited at the possibilities.

265 lbs Division          Budo Rei v Jobe Nkemakolam  265 lbs title

And now it is the time we have all been waiting for as 2 former Empire standouts make their way into the legendary cage of Synchronicity.  Current Syn Champ Budo Rei is making his return the company for the first time since earning a Decision victory over Theo AtlaSon at Syn' 240 New Years Eve.  Jobe and his management team meanwhile decided following EMP 52 they wanted a chance to avenge a loss to Budo back at Emp 37 and jumped at the chance to join the Syn roster with the impending closure/merger with IMMA in what is now known as Evolution.  Following that loss Jobe has gone 3-1 while Rei is currently riding a 3 fight win streak and is excited at the chance to defend his Crown.  Rei is the slighter smaller fighter in this one giving up roughly 15 lbs and a slight reach advantage however that will not stop him from coming out blazing looking to add to his career total of 16 TKO/KO victories.  Jobe on the other hand holds an equally impressive 20 TKO/KO victories to his credit and both these fighters tend to leave it all in the cage as they have both shown signs in the past of being open to the KO themselves.  We are sure to see fireworks in this battle and we fully expect the top end of this event could be the driving force behind Syn's best Rating and PPV Sales results since their monument us return back in early July!

Once again I would like to thank our sponsor for tonight’s show Reaper Combat Wear and hope to see you in attendance as Syn continues its strong return to the Fight Game!!  Enjoy our fights and we will see you next at Syn’ 249.
