BFT 232: Hans vs Choake 3 Review

Welterweight - Recent Welterweight Title Challenger Chumba "La Bomba" Wunba KO'ed recent BFT acquisation Hamish "The Tornado" Gaffney with Punches 53 seconds in the very first round.

Maybe it was Wumba's walk in to La Bomba, but I had a feeling that things were not going to end well for Gaffney. The two were trading fast and early, but Wumba was able to string together a great combination. Jab, Cross, Uppercut. Gaffney was done. What a knockout.

What's next for "La Bomba"? A successful endeavor after losing to the champ. Was it good enough to try for the belt again? Not at all. He needs to string together a few more if he wants to do that. Georges St Pierre has put together a few wins and could certainly challenge Wumba's clinch and wrestling skills. Hussak Claw would bring a classic striker versus grappler match-up. I'd definately watch that.

Middleweight - Italian BFT homestead Legionarvis "Apocolyptic" Sakara knocked out the former BFT Middleweight Champion "Xavante Xernobyl" Hermio Junior with Strikes at 1:11 in round 2.

Junior was staying active and hitting hard until he took the fight to the mat and right into side control. On the ground, Junior was trying to land strikes, but Sakara was a slippery fellow and and was able to keep him at bay. The ref stood them back up, but Junior moved it to the clinch. He tried to get something together, but Sakara was firing back. The round was Junior's, but he looked exhausted by the end of the round. The round started with Sakara takinng one on the button, but cutting open Junior soon after. Sakara worked hard putting some punches on Junior and they were certainly hurting him. It appeared as though Sakara had gotten Junior's number. A powerful combination that dropped Junior had Sakara turning it up. He threw an overhand right that dropped Junior once more. He threw a few more strikes that seemed a little unneccessary, but he was put down for the count.

What's next for Legionarvis? Well let's see. Richie Yang is free. He's got a lot of experience under his belt (47 fights in total). He's lost every decision he's ever gone to, but would this one make it to the judges? Who else could he fight? Recently picked up Johnny Cage could use a fight. He was Synchrocity's Middleweight champion. He is a Hall of Famer in Synchronicity. He has been the number 1 middleweight in the world and the number 2 pound for pound fighter in the world. He's gone through some rough times as of late, but he could certainly bring the fight to him.

Co-Main - Heavyweight - The two time former BFT Heavyweight title challenger "Broomstick" Dingo Monster Knocked out the Las Vegas Native who has never seen the judges score cards Frank Mir with strikes at 1:56 in round 1.

Another quick one. Monster hurt Mir early with some nice shots in the clinch. They found themselves at the distance and Monster knocked Mir down with a solid kick. A couple on the ground and it was back to dream land for Mir.

What's next for Monster? I think he needs at least another win to really contest for the title. It's been almost a year since he last fought Steve Tompkins. Tompkins always brings the fight. The Former champ Laguna Lunaris would also be a good name to drive toward the title.

Main Event - Welterweight Title! - The long time and Current BFT Welterweight Champion Super Hans Majority Decisioned the former welterweigh champ "The Kraken" Jermaine Choake to bring their trilogy to 2-1 for his sixth title defence.

The first round had Hans show why he has been champion for so long. He was able to get a takedown. The position got reversed quickly, and Hans was not okay with that. Hans was going for a submission, but it was to no avail. The two of them continued to roll around on the mats for the remainder of the round. It was Hans who was the more active of the two, although neither guy had spectacular success with submissions from the bottom or ground and pound from the top. Choake started the second round in the clinch, really working in some dirty bocing before deciding to take the fight to the ground. Once again, the two men found themselves rolling around the ground for the remaining 4 minutes. Hans was able to stay extremely active from his back and continued to mount an assault that Choake just couldn't keep up with. Don't get me wrong. Choake was there and working hard to win over Hans, Hans just worked harder on it. The third round had Choake turn things up. He worked away at Hans in the clinch and was much more active on the mats. He was eventually on his back, but as Hans was earlier, Choake was very active on his back working towards the finish constantly. He did everything he could to try to finish Hans and earned the round over Hans. Round four was another close round. Choake started off looking good at the distance and in the clinch, picking and choosing his shots fairly well. But it was Hans who got the takedown in this round. He was working over Choake faily well. Choake haad a really close looking triangle choake, but Hans was able to work his way out of the situation. Hans looked good at the end of the round landing some nice ground and pound and trying out an armbar attempt and omoplata, two submissions that would have been impressive victories if they stuck, but neither one of them did and the nearly sold out crowd in attendance got their money's worth in a fifth and final round. Choake looked like he knew he was down on the score cards. If nothing else, he certainly was down on my score cards. He dove right into a doubnle leg that ended in his favor. The two of the men were still in it and neither one of them wanted this to reach the judges score cards. Both men were active with submission attempts, but Choake was keeping even more active from the top, peppering in ground and pound where he could. In the final seconds of the fight, Choake stepped it up big time, but it was to no avail. Hans was able to walk away the victor, but one judge saw it as a draw.

What's next for the champ? Curtis Sharp has really looked... sharp as of recently. He's got 5 row victories, 3-0 in BFT, with 4 of those victories being finishes. It could lead to either a really competitive fight or a spectacular finish. We'd have to see it to find out. In someone who could really be a BFT Hall of Famer, Akihito Tatsuhiko Jr. always brings the fight. He it a stud on the ground and really keeps it on his opponent in the stand-up. In being a former BFT Champ, he knows what he needs to do to be able to maintain the championship standard.
