BFT - 236: Bondi Beach Brawl 4 PPV

Talk about making an inpact! This PPV event blew the last one out of the water. BESIDES the PPV sales more than doubling from 12,100 to 24,490, the event also scored over 20 points in ranking from 392.07 to 417.85, becoming BFT's highest ranked event to date. We got a full review going on here, as well as a special announcement at the end of it, so kick back and enjoy the review.

Undercard:

Light Heavyweight - The former U.H.F. Light Heavyweight Champion and BFT newcowmmer Justin Jones KO'ed BFT and CFA vet Bulgelene Gossables with strikes at 4:21 in round 2.

Jones went tor the trip takedown early and tried to end it with the ground and pound and submission attempts (there were 3 within the first minute!) Gossables was able to hold on and work through getting rocked by the hard ground and pound flying at him. He swept his way on top and even worked over a little of his own ground and pound and submission attempts. The round was ended and everyone in the audience was wondering how Gossables made it through the round, let alone on top. The second round saw Jones dive in for another takedown quickly, but this time Gossables seemed more prepared. He was throwing up submissions and kept Jones on this toes. The ref stood them, but Jones was having none of the standing. He took another takedown and worked over the ground and pound immediately. He made his way into full mount, landed a few big shots, and Gossables went out.

What's next for the Pueblo, CO native? My thought is a few other guys... Jones-ing for a fight. Bones Jones Could easily test the chin of Justin, as long as he can keep it on the feet. Mukassa Jones could challenge the same aspect, but with a more difficult wrestling petigree to face. If neither of those fights really engage him, Master Enki always brings it.

Lightweight - Seven time BFT Fight of the Night Winner Max "Payne" Mega knocked out finisher in roughly 94% of his victories by knock out Simon Adebesi with a Punch and knee at 2:45 in round 1.

Mega wanted to control the fight early with a takedown, which was successful. He was trying to work over Adebesi, but the ref thought it was too slow, so he stood them. Mega went down to try again, but the ref's thoughts hadn't changed. After being stood again, Mega just kept on the feet where he just kept on it. A right hand sent Adebesi in a dizzy, and a short knee finished him.

What's next for Max? A fight with Spar BJJ would be interesting to see. Spar could certainly submit him, but he would need to get Mega down first. Manny Skelton could also bring an interesting fight. He may be able to out ground him, but also has to becareful on the feet. Otherwise, a rematch of his Oct 2012 fight with Victor Bonifacio could be interesting.

Heavyweight - The former BFT Heavyweight Champion Steve "The Tank" Tompkins Unanimous Decisioned the Former BFT Heavyweight Champion Laguna "Buzzsaw" Lunaris  to get revenge on Lunaris for taking his title.

Lunaris took a punch early and the scar tissue already opened up. The two of them traded on the feet for a while, with blood spitting out from Lunaris. Tompkins had enough of the feet and dove in for a takedown. The ref wasn't to entertained and stood them up. The cycle repeated once more from takedown, to stall, to stand. Tompkins walked away with the round. Round 2 saw Lunaris enter his domain. He was able to get into the clinch and work over his famous elbows. Right away he was able to work over a cut on Tompkins's head. Tompkins was able to work his way out of the clinch and fight for a takedown before the round ended. The third got started and Lunaris really wanted the fight to continue in the clinch. The two of them fought for positioning, with the clinch, distance, and even a takedown all being used. They both of them really wanted to take the control away from the other person while working on a few strikes. Lunaris was able to ride out of the round in the clinch, opening up Tompkins's cut a little more before the fight concluded. Lunaris might have cut Tompkins open a little more, but Steve was still able to walk out with the victory.

What's next for Tompkins? Fights with Alistair Overeem and Brett Gray bring tough wrestling backgrounds to a solid fight. I wouldn't mind seeing a rematch with Nathan Cadge either.

Heavyweight - "The Freak" Brock Lesnar, who has only ever been to the second round once, knocked out a man with 9 of his 10 wins by submission and 4 BFT Submission of the Night Winner Joe "Armbar" Kimura with strikes at 2:52 in round 1.

Kimura was able to land a shot early and well, we all know how much Lesnar likes to get punched in the face. He dove down and took the fight tot the mats immediately. From there, Lesnar was shutting Kimura down quickly on alll of his submission attempts and worked a 100% landing of ground strikes on Kimura. Lesnar just kept pounding Kimura until the ref jumped in.

What's next for "The Freak"? With his only loss being to Kim Boshesh avenged, the only fight that really makes sense is the winner of the next fight, which I'll talk more about after we cover it.

Heavyweight - The former DUFF, CS, and CFA Heavyweight Champion and the former CFA Super Heavyweight Champion "Fat pig" Kim Jong KO'ed the Former BFT Heavyweight Title Challenger and 7 time BFT 'Of the Night' Award winner "Overeem" Jason Hannibal with a Head Kick at 2:17 in round 1.

Things looked bad for Hannibal early, when a counter head kick sent him to the mat and really rocked him. Jong let him back up, but only to continue Hannibal's torment. Hannibal tried to get on Jong, but Jong was the only one that got any shots off. Jong landed another head kick that stumbled Hannibal, and a third head kick sent him down for good.

What's next for "Fat pig"? As I mentioned earlier, Brock Lesnar makes the most sense at this moment. Both men have been dancing around title shots, but neither one has earned it yet. With complications surrounding the title, having this fight take place now would derive the next title challenger. It is also just a good fight. Kim Jong has the advantage on the feet, but Brock Lesnar has a huge advantage in wrestling. They both have similar BJJ, but Lesnar has never been submitted.

Main Card Title Rush:

Middleweight Title! - The Former Boomerang! Lightweight and Welterweight Champion and Current BFT Middleweight Champion Chev Chelios KO'ed Tarik Gibson, who was riding a 9 fight winning streak going into the fight, with a Head Kick at 23 seconds in round 2 for his second title defence.

Chev started with an overhand left that cut Tarik open. He closed the distance and worked over the clinch a little utilizing both Muy Thai techniques and Dirty Boxing. They didn't stay there long and went back to striking at the distance. A powerful uppercut cut open Tarik a little more. A solid jab-cross combination sent Gibson to the mat and really rocked him. Tarik was able to hold on until the end of the round, but Chelios knew that victory was fastly approaching him. The second round got started and Chelios was on top of Gibson again. Gibson was staying in tight, and a huge head kick put him down for the count. He looked a little out of place in the fight. I mean he was in there the whole time, but Chelios was comfortable the whole time.

Who's next for the reigning Middleweight Champion? There isn't too much out there for him to really face right now. One name that comes to mind is Trevor Smith. He has really looked good in his last few fights, but I don't think he would really bring much of a challenge to Chelios. I think the best option out there right now is Legionarvis Sakara. He's on a 4 fight winning streak and really only needs to land a solid shot to finish a fight.

Lightweight Title! - The Long Time BFT Lightweight Champion and winner of 15 BFT 'Of The Night' award winner "Kana" Kuroda Atsushi Majority Decisioned the long time fight vet, with 51 fights now under his belt, "Mini" Fenton Meeks for his eigth title defence, sustaining himself as most dominant Lightweight Champion in BFT history.

Both men wanted to take the fight away from the distance quickly; Meeks was looking to take the fight into the clinch and Atsushi was looking for the takedowns. Atsushi was looking better at the distance early with some nice shots before Meeks was able to bring the fight to the clinch a few times. Atsushi definately didn't look that uncomfortable, but he didn't want to take too many of those shots Meeks was throwing. In the periods between the clinch, Atsushi was landing some solid shots. He was even able to drag the fight to the mats before the round ended. The two men were hanging around at the feet for the most part of the second round. Atsushi was much more dominat here. He was landing some really nice leg kicks. He may have even been looking to take the fight with leg kicks. Meeks was throwing, but most of the shots that got reactions from the crowd were coming from Kuroda. He did more than what was necessary by taking the fight to the ground at the end of the round. The third round had more distance action, but Meeks had begun to wake up. He was able to continue to stuff a large portion of takedown attempts coming from Atsushi and able to counder a number of his shots coming through the round. Atsushi was still able to tear away at the legs of Meeks, but Meeks was staying in it and even clinched the fight up just before the round ended. The fourth round had more of an assault from Atsushi. He continued to chopp away at Meeks, but Meeks was utterly determined to keep the fight standing at all costs. Unfortunately for him, he wasn't fairing much better on the feet. In the final round, Atsushi was able to keep the fight going his way and was even able to get the takedown that he desired for the last 20 some odd minutes and get some work done in there. From there, he was really looking to finish Meeks off with some ground and pound. Meeks is a tough guy though and was able to hold on until the end of the round. Some tough gritty work done throughout the fight, but Atsushi was able to really bring some hurt on the legs of Meeks.

What's next for the reigning Lightweight Champion? The only two men who could stake come solid claims for the title: Suchart Chaowanungkarn and Malaipet Sasiprapa. Although "Fishbowl" could bring come challenges on the feet, I believe that "Kana" would take the fight to the mats and take the fight. I believe Malaipet is the better version of the two fighters, and has the potential to take the belt from Atsushi. Do I think he would do it? Not sure. But it would be a pretty good fight.

Welterweight Title! - 40-fight veteran of the sport Curtis "Razor" Sharp Unanimous Decisioned the BFT Welterweight Champion Super Hans to become new Welterweight Champion and 7th in BFT history.

Hans went for the takedown early and was looking to end the fight in similar fashion with ground and pound work and submission attempts. Sharp was able to keep collected and not let Hans get to him. He walked away giving Hans the round. The second round had the fighters swinging at the distance. Sharp was able to show his striking offensive. He was able to keep Hans at bay with his movement. Hans was landing some nice shots as well, but Sharp had the crisper strikes and was staying just a little more active. The third round had more of the same from the two fighters. It was clear that Sharp didn't mind the keeping the fight there, but Hans kept diving down for the takedowns. The fourth round had Hans get his first successful takedown in quite some time. It was his chance to really bring the pain to Sharp or possible end the fight. But the ref though Sharp was negating Hans's offensive abilities too well and stood them back up. Sharp kept moving forward with his offensive and continued to frustrate Hans with his ongoing onslaught of punches. The fifth round went the way of Curtis Sharp via aggression and striking at the distance. He was able to keep Hans from getting those takedowns that decide which way his fights go. At the end of the day, Curtis Sharp was able to dethrown the Welterweight King and take the belt to his home in Vegas.

What's next for the newly crowned Welterweight Champion? There are a lot of challengers out there smiling for their oppurtunity to take down the new champ. Chumba Wumba in particular looks to have a solid claim for the BFT belt again. That or Georges St Pierre has a clinchable, grindable fight ahead of him to try and take the most significant victory of his career.

PAY PER VIEW:

Co-Main - Light Heavyweight Title! - The Current BFT Light Heavyweight Champion "Lone Star" Dallas MacMillan KO'ed the four time BFT Light Heavyweight Title Challenger Titus "Tko" Kahoohalphala with a Punch at 2:59 in round 2 to defend his belt for the 3rd time and bring their series to 2-1 in the champ's favor.

Dallas looked in good form trading early with "Tko". He landed a solid left hand that cut open Titus as Titus looks to bring the fight to the ground. MacMillan was really out classing Kahoohalphala on the feet until he slipped up and let him get a takedown. A large portion of the second half of the round was spent fighting off takedowns and getting back upo from the mat. It was a very grind fight in the last half, as opposed to the dominance that MacMillan was showing at the distance. The second got started and MacMillan showed his dominance some more. He was landing all of his shots and in flush. A solid uppercut sent Kahoohalphala to the gloor and a brutal left hook finished him.

What's next for the reigning Light Heavyweight Champion? Being the second most dominant BFT Light Heavyweight Champ, behind Ken Tentheros, he's starting to run short of challengers. I would keep my eye on Nicandro Aloisio. He's making waves in the Light Heavyweight division. With a solid win, Trinidad Suarez could strike a claim for the title. Master Enki has a 4 fight winning streak and is the current forerunner for the title shot.

Main Event - Heavyweight Title! - The BFT Heavyweight Champion Hagen "The Barbarian" Germanicus fought to a Draw with the former Bellum Heavyweight Title Challenger Gunnar Jensen for the 10th title defence.

Things got heated quickly when Jensen cut open Germanicus. A few moments after that he knocked Germanicus... twice. Germanicus was really rocked and it looked like the fight may have been stopped soon. Germanicus was able to hold on to the clinch and regain his posture. Germanicus tried to recover the round, but Jensen was really working as though he was in control of the fight until the first round ended. The second round had Jensen keep it up against Germanicus. Germanicus was able to push forward and land some punishment of his own, but Jensen brought the fight into the clinch. The fight seemed about as even in the clinch as it did at the distance. It was a really close fight, but Jensen was pulling away a little pushing the pace against Germanicus.Germanicus had a fire lit under his ass in the third round and really started landing some solid shots. He was pushing forward, landing with some nice kicks, but Jensen was in there too the entire time. It was difficult for either man to really assert dominance over the other. Germanicus was able to clinch the fight at the end of the round in front of the judges table, and that may have swayed the judges vote for the round, but it is tought to say. The fourth round had Germanicus continue his onslaught that he had begun the round before. That being said, Jensen was landing some nice shots in there as well. He was able to get in some shots, but it was between the shots Germanicus shots. Germanicus was able to get the clinch with plenty of time to work on it. He landed some really nice dirty boxing shots before the round came to an end and he really ran away with it. The fifth round had come, and both men looked exhausted. They continued to battle it out as they had the last few minutes. Germanicus was working at the distance, but Jensen was able to keep up with him much better this time around. Jensen was able to get the takedown that he had worked on the last 4 rounds, but it didn't help him too much. Germanicus was able to reverse the position and worked hard on the ground and pound in the top position. Jensen went for a kimura just as the round ended. The first two rounds went to Jensen, while the third and fourth were Germanicus's. The fight came down to how the last fight was scored: 10-10's across the board. It was a Unanimous Draw.

What's next for the Heavyweight Champion? Rematch. Nothing else really needs to be said about this.
