WFL 2 Preview by Tony Rossi

Event Preview: WFL 2- Rostowski vs Dostan
Warrior Fight League
2014-01-06, Helsinki, Wild Bob's Bar - Helsinki
Author:Josh James

Live from Wild Bob’s Bar in Helsinki Warrior Fight League presents WFL-2 Rostowski versus Dostan. Rostowski versus Dostan will be just one of the Featherweight fights that will be part of the Featherweight Tournament. We have an action packed night of fights coming up on Monday January 6th. Today we will break down each fight, and I will be making me predictions for each of those bouts. Now let’s not go run out and drop a week’s paycheck on my predictions as I went four and five for WFL-1. Let’s get into the fights and start breaking these things down.

Preliminary bout number one.

Edward “Assasin” Kenwey (2-0){0-0} versus David “El Toro” Thompson (1-0){0-0}

These two fighters will both be making their WFL debut. Kenwey is a proficient boxer with a little wrestling back round. He will be looking to strike with “El Toro” as much as possible. Kenwey has finished both of his opponents with strikes, and he knows how to aim as he has opened up cuts to his opponents in both cases. Kenwey is the taller of the two, so striking should be easy for him in this one. David “El Toro” Thompson is coming into this undefeated as well, with his only fight ending with a knockout in the third round. Since Thompson has already proved he has the conditioning to last a long time he should try to push Kenwey deep into this fight. Thompson is a boxer, but his skills are not up to par with Kenwey. Thompson will need to strike enough to not allow Kenwey to rest at all, and really test the cardio of Kenwey. My prediction Kenwey wins by knockout in the second round.

Preliminary bout number two.

Greg “Rubishman” Joll (2-0){0-0} versus Shawn Albright (0-0){0-0}

Joll is versatile and looks to finish early. In his two fights he has finished both opponents in the first round, one by knockout and the other by submission. Joll has trained in wrestling, boxing, and currently holds a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. If Joll wants to win his WFL debut he is going to have to find a way to get this way on the ground, and look for a submission. The reason he has to get to the ground is Shawn Albright. Albright is a wonderful Muay Thai practitioner and very respectable wrestler. Albright will have a big advantage if this fight stays standing. Shawn should use his wrestling to keep this fight up and use the Muay Thai to kick at a distance, or grab a clinch when combat gets up close and personal. I will be picking Albright to win by knockout in the second round.

Preliminary bout number three.

Bobby Deckard (3-0){0-0} versus Risto Haeyhae (1-0){0-0}

Deckard should have a big advantage having more fight experience than Haeyhae. Deckard is a wonderful wrestler who has great conditioning. Two of his three wins have come by decision as he understands what skills he possess and does not try to overstep his skills. A typical young wrestler who has no problem laying on top of his opponent and pointing out a fight. Haeyhae seems to be in big trouble here as he is not as polished of a wrestler and at fight time will be giving up four to five pounds. Haeyhae will need to try and win this fight standing up, possibly in the clinch with some dirty boxing, but the wonderful wrestler should be able to put Risto on his back all night. I am picking Bobby Deckard to win this by unanimous decision.

Preliminary bout number four.

Miguel “The Unstoppable” Augusto (5-3){0-0} versus Vladimir Semin (1-1){0-0}

Miguel Augusto has a ton of experience, age, and size advantages over Semin. Augusto has all the tools to stand up and strike with his opponents and he holds a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. In all five of Augusto’s wins he has submitted his opponent and that spells disaster for Semin. Augusto even with the better striking abilities should let the eighteen year old wrestler dictate the fight while standing up. The fight will surely end up on the ground and Augusto can spring a submission on Semin. Semin better bring his a game if he wants to win. He will need to work on some serious submission defense during his training for this bout. The only hope Semin has is to get this fight past the first round and pray Augusto has no cardio. My pick in this one is a first round submission with Augusto wining.

Fifth and final preliminary bout.

Darren “The Axeman” McGlynn (2-0){0-0} versus Eizo “Dragon Fist” Okura (1-1){0-0}

The farmer McGlynn is a respectable boxer and Muay Thai striker. That means stay out of range of his kicks but don’t get to close because of the clinch. The best way to take down a double threat such as McGlynn is to put him on his back, a place he has never been. McGlynn has only spent thirty two seconds inside the cage with a ten second knock out and a twenty two second knockout. His strategy should be simple knockout Okura. Eizo Okura is also a striker who likes to build points threw the fight instead of finishing. Both of his fights have ended in decision one in his favor and his last a loss. Okura is going to need to point out McGlynn without getting knocked out, which will be no easy task. McGlynn has yet to be tested on his cardio and that’s what Okura should be looking to do. McGlynn is my pick in this one with a first round knockout.

Main card fight number one.

Jack “Jackhammer” Vickers (2-0){1-0} versus Dorian Llic (1-0){0-0}

Vickers picked a win in his heavyweight WFL debut. He looked confident on his back after being taken down immediately, and forced a referee stand up with his controlling from the bottom. Once standing up he used the clinch game to beat down his opponent. Vickers then created some space and got the knockout. Vickers might not want to clinch with Llic, but it seems that’s about all he has. Llic will be making his WFL debut and he will be looking for a knockout. In his only fight Llic did not initiate the clinch, but once there he became very aggressive cutting his opponent. After rocking his opponent with a good shot to the head, he forced him up against the cage and finished the job with a right, left, right combo. Llic is comfortable in the clinch and Vickers will be happy to put him there. My pick will be a first round knockout, and Dorian Llic will be getting his first WFL win.

Main card fight number two.

Tim “Far Lap” Farland (1-0){0-0} versus Shin “Demon” Kazama (2-0){0-0}

There are a lot of similarities with these two fighters. Farland and Kazama are both making their WFL debut, they are the same height, their natural weight is almost identical, both are undefeated, they also love to finish, and they are both purple belts in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The place these two differ is Farland is a proficient boxer while Kazama is a competent wrestler. While Farland looks to submit his opponents that should be his back up in this one. His stand up game is so much better that if this fight stays standing Kazama won’t be standing for long. Kazama should stick to his style and get Farland down, even though Farland can submit just as well. If neither fighter can finish from the ground Kazama should win the fight on points, due to the better wrestling. I am going to pick Farland to win this fight by submission after Kazama gets tired from holding Farland down.

Main card fight number three and first featherweight tournament bout.

Terry Aunor (12-4){0-0} versus Ronaldo Hispanyola (5-2){0-0}

The first fight in the four man featherweight tournament will pit the strong wrestler and wonderful boxer Terry Aunor against the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu brown belt Ronaldo Hispanyola. Aunor started out seven and zero before falling into a slump as he is only five and four over his last nine. Aunor has the skills to roll around on the ground, but he is not going to want to do that with Hispanyola. The great thing for Aunor is his boxing skills will help him out if he can keep the fight standing. Hispanyola is a submission specialist winning four of his five fights by way of submission. Ronaldo will need to get this fight to the ground and utilize that BJJ to get a quick win over the much more experienced fighter. Hispanyola will not want to let this fight get into the later rounds because of the experience of Aunor. My pick to move on in the featherweight tournament is Aunor by knockout in the second round.

Main card fight number four and featured bout.

“Apu” Kamala Naamhaara (9-5){0-0} versus Vasyl “Killer” Pupkin (1-0){0-0}

Can you say mismatch? “Apu” is two years older and has thirteen more fights than Pupkin. Kamala is a better stand up fighter by far. When it comes to wrestling Pupkin does not stand a chance. The only thing “Apu” does not have the advantage in is the submission game. That should not concern “Apu” since his wrestling is so much better this fight should not get anywhere near the ground. It’s not that Pupkin can’t strike has he is a strong Muay Thai striker, but in the same category “Apu” is exceptional. Pupkin’s only chance to win is to somehow get this fight to the ground and look for a loose limb to grab a hold of. I don’t believe this will happen so I am picking “Apu” to win by knockout in the first round.

Main card fight number five. Main Event and last first round featherweight tournament fight.

Andrzej “Litwin” Rostowski (11-14){0-0} versus Artair Dostan (7-4-1){0-0}

The main event is the second and last fight in the featherweight tournament. The winner of this bout will face the winner of Terry Aunor versus Ronaldo Hispanyola for the Warrior Fight League Featherweight Championship. These two warriors are both coming from bigger organizations and have a name behind them. “Litwin” is a respectable wrestler and a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu but he does not have much of a standup game. Rostowski will need to get this fight to the ground to pick up a win in this one. If Rostowski can get it to the ground he should be the victor as ten of his eleven wins have come by submission. Dostan can hold his own on the ground with his purple belt and superb wrestling. Dostan is also strong boxer who does possess some knockout power. His last knockout came back in June of 2013 when he knocked out Scott Roper in the first round. Five of his wins though have come by decision so we all know he has great conditioning. Dostan started off his career winning five straight and has had some bad luck lately. The best thing to revive his career is to keep this fight standing, and get a knock out. I am going to pick Andrzej “Litwin” Rostowski to win by submission in the second round.

To close out the preview as always I will try to guess the awards. Submission of the Night award I see going to Miguel “The Unstoppable” Augusto. For Knockout of the Night I am picking none other than Darren “The Axeman” McGlynn. Terry Aunor versus Ronaldo Hispanyola I am going to guess will win Fight of The Night. That will close out WFL-2’s preview. Tickets are still available and you are not going to want to miss this event.
