Back to the action is what Heavyweight Prize Fighting has ordered, This saturday a surplus of 17 thousand fans will come flocking once again to endulge in some caged combat. HWP: Irene vs Smithwick has the makings of a classic.
Bong Ki Duk has arrived after fighting most of his career in HERO to prove his skills in the cage and will begin with his first fight coming against Mike Laid. Ki Duk, as his bio will read, was born and trained to expose North Korea's martial arts prowess to the rest of the world and also a few viewers from Mars. [ Primarily the ones who complain and make us stop looking at our skill pops and take out the garbage.] He has a path of destruction left behind him as he has 9 KO's in 14 wins but he also has not show off to the level that North Korea would like, losing 8. Mike Laid has a nickname that every fan of this sport loves, ACTION. Unfortunately for him in his last fight, instead of being the action he desired, his name fit his title as he Laid on his back being struck repeatedly by Fred Collins until he cried for the referee to stop the fight. Laid will look to grapple on the ground as Ki Duk will try to stand and bang.
In many contact sports the phrase “All Heart, No Skill” can be tagged along with a person who is marginal at best and actually does a decent job in whatever they do. In MMA, you can have all the heart in the world it doesnt matter if your heart says get up while you body is going night night. Thats not the case for Freeman Blackford aka “All Heart No Skill”. While he has excellent heart, he also is very skilled though I wouldnt call him elite at any practice. His first round loss to Jaakko Parantainen has led him to this fight with Kent Hytten who is not wasting any time to get back into the cage after his slaughter of Krammer Hussein. Some feeling came over me when predicting this fight and I cannot pull myself to believe that Blackford has the heart or skill to win this fight in any fashion. Even at 39 years old, the 253lb Hytten is still a dangerous man to tangle with.
Its always interesting when you have a fighter that specializes in kicking and clinching going up against a ground grappler and that is what HWP has promised us with in this upcoming co-main event. The 275lb Great White Ygor Savage will take on Tom Cat who is nearly the same weight but half a foot taller. Savage holds a 27-9 record coming off of a very emotional loss by unanimous decision to Asshole Gracie and when I say emotional, I mean the entirety of the word. Filled with illegal strikes when the two stood together for the official decision, Ygor went to shake the Asshole's hand, and this asshole didnt just go to the extent of Ronda Rousey mode, he hit Ygor with ANOTHER illegal strike and laughed as Ygor held onto his family jewels for the next 7 minutes. Tom Cat defeated Methuselah Couture in a much more boring nature, both fighters had to wake the referree up for the official decision to find out he didnt know who won. For this fight between Ygor and Tom Cat, I wouldnt expect boredom though, or a decision, this one, in my mind will go down fast and hard and Ygor will score a KO.
Speaking of sleeping, Goodnight Irene has never taken a nap in the cage since he began his career which would be quite impressive, if he didnt lose 9 fights by Cuts. This guy is a machine and will fight even when the doctor tells him not to, in one of his amateur fights, he knocked the doctor out because he didnt want the fight to stop due to his cut. If fights were never stopped because an overflow of blood on the mats, it is argueable that he would only have one loss in his career, unanimous by Greg Evans. For our main event, Irene will bring his 8 fight win streak on the line against Mick Smithwick's 6 fight win streak. With almost 60lbs separating these two fighters and a MAJOR height difference, it is unpredictable what might happen here. Smithwick has the power and punching skills to knockout or cut Goodnight Irene, but the height disadvantage might ruin that opportunity for Mick. Certainly check back to see who was able to take this fight and add another win to their streak.
As always, HWP has some sort of drama building up to one huge fight and our main event Saturday will deliver. If you ever wanted to learn about sliders and how they effect weight differences, heavyweight prize fighting is the place to learn it. While you can always book your bets on the betting page here in sin city, we would like to thank HWP for his hard work and the matchmakers for making fair fights. Good luck and TO ALL ENJOY!
