HONOR Fighting Championship

Author:Tony Rossi

Evolution is the change in the inherited characteristics of biological populations over successive generations. Evolutionary processes give rise to diversity at every level of biological organization, including species, individual organisms and molecules such as DNA and proteins.

Honor Fighting Championship may not be a biological organism but evolution is taking place there. Moving from the ICON program to become its on entity is most certainly change, and the fact that we are providing better fights, higher ratings, and championships prove our evolution. There is no better way of celebration our evolution than having an amazing event. That event is Honor FC 3 Evolution!

Ten amazing fights will be presented at Evolution. Those fights include two title fights, one at featherweight and the other at welterweight. We will also feature stars that have made a name for themselves outside of HFC that will be making their debut such as Mari "Smoke" Juana, Taylor "woob woob woob" Clark, and "Primal" Rage Kootz. Now that does not mean we will not include some of our home grown stars like Bud "King Of Beers" Weiser. Also showing off their talents will be an entire ensemble of future stars. Let me present to you…………EVOLUTION!

Preliminary Bout Number 1- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)

Derec "The Smile" Negreanu (0-1-1) {0-1-0} versus Andrew "Animal" Todd (0-3) {0-2}

Derec is looking for the same thing that Todd is, a win. Both of these guys have yet to taste sweet victory but barring a draw one of them will tonight. Consider it their personal EVOLUTION. Negreanu is a boxer and a wrestler who loves to stand in the pocket and throw strikes. He will need to work on his punching and try to find some knockout power if he wants to continue with that strategy. Todd is a wrestling ground and pound specialist. In both of his HFC fights Todd was submitted by Jiu Jitsu fighters. He should not fear a submission in this fight, and he will want to take Derec to the ground quickly and pound away. I think Todd wins this fight by way of TKO in the second round.

Preliminary Bout Number 2- Bantamweight Fight (135lbs)

Justin "Glenn" Bostic (3-2) {0-1} versus Joe "The Pitch" Castro (2-1-1) {1-1-1}

I feel a connection with Bostic since we are both from the great St. Louis Missouri. Sorry I had to get a little cheap pop. With that now out of the way, I am not really sure what Bostic should do in this fight. Obviously he will want to stay out of the clinch, but I think he is at a disadvantage in the stand up as well as the being slightly handicapped on the ground. I guess he should go to the ground and see what happens. Castro had a good feud with Coors Light which netted him a draw and a win but he was knocked out in his next fight.  Castro has not shown us that he has the ability to finish a fight, but that should not come into play here. He should go out there and do his thing since he is the older and more trained fighter. I think if he does not force a submission or knockout he will easily win this fight by decision, and that is my prediction.

Preliminary Bout Number 3- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)

Al "KO" Hallick (1-0) {1-0} versus Timothy "The Assassin" Christopher Iii (2-2) {0-1}

Hallick is working on becoming a very dangerous striker. He is rounding out his boxing and Muay Thai to become that double threat in the standup game. Combos clinch, and high kicks will throw off any opponent and make it hard to game plan for. Christopher is a submission artist who won his first two fights of his career. He has fallen on hard times as of late dropping his last two fights. He had trouble in his last fight in the takedown department only getting one out of seven attempts. He should not have as much trouble getting the takedown in this fight, assuming he doesn’t get knocked out too early in the fight. My money will be on Hallick to win by knockout in the first round.

Preliminary Bout Number 4- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)

Daniel "Monster" Obaidi (1-0) {0-0} versus Lotas Mauras (1-1) {0-1}

In Obaidi’s first fight we seen him use the clinch and we got to see him strike from range. No matter where he was at he mixed his strikes up well, and all the shots he landed looked very painful. Word on the street is he has a decent ground game to go with his excellent stand up, and if that is true we need to see it in this fight. Mauras has zero ground game, but man what a striker. In his first fight he landed a head kick just thirty seconds into the fight and he walked out a winner. In his last fight he was taken down and submitted in under a minute. If this fight stays standing Mauras will walk out the victor, but if Obaidi can get this fight to the mat he should be able to get the submission win. I think Mauras wins this fight by knockout since he is experienced.

Preliminary Bout Number 5- Middleweight Fight (185lbs)

Bob "Beast" Harris (2-1) {0-0} versus Robert "Chop" Decker (1-0) {0-0}

Harris is a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with a little bit of a wrestling back round. He won his first two fights by submission in the first round, but he lost his last fight in quick fashion. The scouting report says he has a good chin though. Robert Decker is a wrestler who has been working on his Jiu Jitsu. His only fight ended quickly when Decker was taken to the ground in the opening seconds of the fight. He then got a big submission win locking on a guillotine and getting the tap out in less than thirty seconds. Both of these fighters have no stand up skill at all, and since a strong wrestler is taking on a strong Jiu Jitsu fighter I have to pick the submission artist. So I got Harris to win by submission late in round number one.

Main Card Bout Number 1- Bantamweight Fight (135lbs)

Austin "Hollywood" Worner (16-17) {0-1} versus Johnny "Brutal" Bedford (14-11) {0-0}

Worner is a submission specialist that loves the ground aspect of MMA. He is a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu but he does not have much wrestling skills. That can create a problem with getting the takedowns he needs which is what has led to most of his seventeen losses. At least he has worked tremendously on his boxing as he is trying to become a double threat. Bedford is a wrestler but that is all he has. He knows how to point grapple and he is very good at it. Eleven of his fourteen wins have come by decision but if he wants to be successful he will need to add something to his repertoire. I think Worner wins this since most of the fight will take place on the ground. I think he will get the submission in the early part of the second round.

Main Card Bout Number 2- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)

Bud "King Of Beers" Weiser (3-1) {2-1} versus Mari "Smoke" Juana (7-3) {0-0}

Weiser is a well-rounded fighter who rebounded well from his first loss. When you are a well-rounded fighter you need to game plan against your opponents strengths and not go after their weakness. Weiser will need to keep this fight standing if he wants any chance of winning and I hope that he has been working on the takedown defense in the camp leading up to this fight. Juana started his career out with six straight wins, and then things started to fall apart. He dropped three consecutive fights all by knockout before getting his seventh win. Juana was working on rebounding his career when SCFU closed so he brought his grappling skills to Honor Fighting Championship and he is looking to rise to the top quickly. I foresee Juana getting the takedown and pounding out Weiser in the second round.

Main Card Bout Number 3- Welterweight Fight (170lbs)

"Primal" Rage Kootz (11-9-1) {0-0} versus Taylor "woob woob woob" Clark (25-15-1) {0-0}

These two very experienced fighters will be making their Honor Fighting Championship debut. Both of these guys where left off the top ten list for the month of February because they had yet to fight. Whoever wins this fight will catapult themselves near the top of the division. This should be one of the best fights ever put together by Honor Fighting Championship since both of these fighters are extremely skilled. Kootz is more of a boxer and a majority of his wins have come by knockout. Clark on the other hand is a point fighter who can finish. He likes to be defensive and not leave himself open to get finished. Clark has gone the distance thirty one times, and he has been finished less than Kootz. For that reason I am picking Clark to win by decision.

Co Main Event Main Card Bout Number 4- Featherweight Title Fight (145lbs)

Ben Zaylor (10-0) {1-0} versus Dewayne Bryant (6-4) {2-0}

Zaylor won his first fight in Honor Fighting Championship and it was for the Featherweight title. How do you sign a contract and then get the first fight for the title? Simple you come in with an undefeated record and you are in the top five most popular fighters in the company. Zaylor is not just a great fighter but you can see his EVOLUTION as a fighter when you look at his previous fights. He won his first fight by submission and then signed with NOW. He won seven fights in a row there and all of them by decision but he was more and more dominate each fight. Then his next two fights he won with first round submissions. The question is can he evolve into a double threat before this fight? The reason I ask this question is because I think Bryant is a better grappler and I am not sure Zaylor can beat Bryant on the ground. Bryant has no skills with striking, so if Zaylor doesn’t go for the takedown Bryant will have to earn the takedown. I think if Zaylor stays standing for the first round he will be able to wear Bryant down enough to try and wrestle with him. I see this fight going all five rounds, and I think Zaylor has the better cardio so I have him winning the fight 49-46.

Main Event Main Card Fight Number 5- Welterweight Title Fight (170lbs)

Rock "Taijutsu" Lee (4-1) {3-1} versus Kshitij "EL FENOMENO" Singh Negi (10-2) {0-0}

Lee barley broke a sweat when he defeated Oscralo De Santiuya for the vacant Welterweight Title. Lee is a wrestler and a boxer who prefers to stand in the pocket and throw punches. He is a very defensive wrestler using his abilities to stop takedowns. On the ground he looks to control and minimize damage and points by his opponents. That is clearly working for him as he is four and one, and his only loss came against a ground fighter who could not get the finish. Negi is a striker and wrestler as well, but he prefers to work from the clinch. If he takes the fight to the clinch I am not sure what Lee will do, since he have not seen him there before. Both of these fighters have proven that they have great chins, but Negi’s chin has been tested more than Lee’s. I don’t think we will see a knock out in this fight and since Negi has been threw five rounds before I am picking him to win. I think Lee will win the first round or two, but when the cardio becomes the question I think Negi can takeover. I am predicting the score cards to show 48-47 in favor of Negi in a great fight.

This is truly EVOLUTION, as you can see it with the bookings, the arenas and the writing. Mr. Monk has been incredibly dedicated and I think all of us owe him a big thank you. He has been bringing in bigger names, booking bigger events, and he has added an addition event each week. He had to evolve with Honor Fighting Championship or we would just be the same company with a different name. Through our personal EVOULUTION and our EVOLUTION as a family we now have all boarded the train and the next stop is not until we are number one in Las Vegas.

I wanted to say thank you for joining me for the Honor FC 3 Evolution preview. Please do not forget to drop by and Meet the Future and pick up some Honor Fighting Championship shirts. As always this has been Tony Rossi, I will see you all for the review of this amazing celebration of EVOLUTION.
