There are a lot of things for lots of people to be happy about after Friday’s event. First off the ten fighters who won fights should be thrilled including the one fighter who won a title and another who defended it. Mr. Monk should be thrilled that we sold out The Palmtree the very first time we held an event there, and of course that has to lead to Jacob What owner of Meet the Future being happy as more people equal more sales. Im not sure if Yump Dunger is all in all that happy since I don’t know if he made a profit of the event over at In The Red Sportsbook but I know he made about a grand off of me. Then there is me and I am totally thrilled as I only lost a grand at the bookie and I am usually down a lot more. Let’s take a look at the fights and see what mistakes I made since I had to make a few because I lost money.
Preliminary Bout Number 1- Bantamweight Fight (135lbs)
Sun "Kakarot" Wukong defeats King Pin
I got the prediction correct and I got the method but I did not get the correct round. I thought we would see this at least go two rounds but Wukong was not about to let that happen. He checked a leg kick and then took down Pin. Once on the ground he easily passed to mount and started unloading a barrage of punches. Pin could not defend himself and the referee stopped the fight at 1:26 of the first round. Now I put five hundred dollars down on each fight and I will break down my wins and losses for you all just to give some of you who don’t know how it works an opportunity to learn, and to give everyone a chance to poke fun of me on my big losses. So If I put five hundred down on ten fights that means I start the night off down five thousand dollars. I got a win here so I get my five hundred back plus one hundred and ninety four dollars and forty four cents bringing me down to four thousand three hundred and five dollars and fifty six cents in the hole. Not bad for the first fight.
Preliminary Bout Number 2- Lightweight Fight (155lbs)
Junior "The Red Pitt" Flores defeats "WEAPON X" Jason Prolight
I thought Prolight would be able to get this fight to the ground and really take Flores out of his game, but boy o boy was I wrong. Prolight tried to get the fight to the ground but Flores was able to defend well. Flores also made Prolight pay for trying the second takedown landing a few quick punches to the head. Flores then landed a vicious combo that put Prolight out for the night after only thirty nine seconds of the first round. I had Prolight but I have already accounted for all my losses so I am still down four thousand three hundred and five dollars and fifty six cents.
Preliminary Bout Number 3- Welterweight Fight (170lbs)
Kevin "GroundnPound" Coonaments defeats Oscralo "Granalo" De Santiuya
Wouldn’t you know I get another prediction wrong, I was so damn good at this before I started betting money. Maybe I should stop making predicts and just give odds and then bet the odds. I am sure this was a heart breaker for De Santiuya as well as Yump Dunger if anyone did bet the odds as Coonaments was heavy underdog in this fight.
The first round was all Oscralo as he got a takedown and worked submissions and trying to advance position. Twice in the round tough De Santiuya stood up from a very dominate position which could have been huge mistakes. If Oscralo could have done a bit more on the ground with strikes in this first round I would have given this round a 10-8 but I have it score as a 10-9 in favor of De Santiuya.
Round two starts and it is the same. Lots of point scoring takedowns for Oscralo but once he was able to take a dominate position he would stand up and then repeat the process. This looked like a case of I am going to out point you and nothing more even with the few submissions he attempted. Coonaments did try a submission of his own to no avail and he got a take down during one of the stand ups but Oscralo was able to get up from that. I give the round to De Santiuya 10-9 and I have the fight at 20-18.
We get a lot of the same in the third round with Oscralo dominating with takedowns, but Coonaments is a little more active off of his back. Both fighters where exchanging submission attempts everytime De Santiuya would take the fight to the ground. It seemed as though Oscralo was going to breeze to an easy decision win but late in the third round Coonaments locked on a triangle and after being completely dominated Coonaments win with a submission with only seventeen seconds left in the fight. I lost another on so I am still down the same amount. Anyone who put a bet on Coonaments walked away happy though.
Preliminary Bout Number 4- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)
Greg Roddy defeats Dave "D" Davisdon
This fight went the way I thought it would Davisdon needed to get the fight to the ground but I thought Roddy would be able to keep it standing. Roddy stuffed six takedowns in this very short fight, and landed some incredible shots. A big right cut and knocked down Davisdon and when he got up a counter left sent him back to the floor and the referee had to stop the fight. Greg Roddy wins by knockout at 1:36 of the first round, and I will my five hundred back plus two hundred and eighty seven dollars and forty cents. I am still down three thousand five hundred and eighteen dollars and sixteen cents. I still have plenty of fights to turn a profit though.
Preliminary Bout Number 5- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)
Cullen Bohannan defeats Freddy Lee
My prediction of this fight was Bohannan would storm Lee in the first round and that is exactly what he did. Lee threw some kicks and a punch or two to try and slow down the assault for Cullen but it was not happening for him. Cullen ducked and dodged everything Lee threw at him as he pressed forward and continued to mug Lee. An uppercut sent Lee to the ground and Bohannan continued to swarm him with punches till the referee stopped the fight. Cullen Bohannan is your winner by TKO at :42 of the first round. Not only is Bohannan a winner but so am I, I get my five hundred back plus four fifty two and thirty eight cents bringing me down to two thousand five hundred and sixty five dollars and seventy eight cents in the hole.
Main Card Bout Number 1- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)
Nissan "Gtr" Fairtex defeats Investitor "Cujo" Gradnje
Well knew this fight was going to end early. I had Gradnje getting a submission victory with in the first three minute but this ended earlier than I expected. Gradnje tried to put on early presser with grappling as he attempted six takedowns and he tried to gain a few clinches. Fairtex was having no part of it as he was able to stay to the outside and dismiss any takedown attempt. Nissan also landed a few hard shots but none harder that a right hook that landed clean on Gradnje. Investitor was out before he landed and Nissan wins the fight at just :56 of the first round. I bet on Gradnje so I am one fight further from breaking even.
Main Card Bout Number 2- Middleweight Fight (185lbs)
Cap Roundtree defeats Dario "The Killer" Silva
The first round was pretty boring in my opinion. Roundtree dominated the round by landing more strikes at a much higher percentage and he got a take down in the middle of the round. The ref did stand the fight back up since both fighter where not doing too much though. Once back to the feet Roundtree went back to work on Silva landing some decent shots. Roundtree won the round easily 10-9 on my card.
Silva improved in the second round as he was able to lock Roundtree in to a few clinches, but he was not able to land much. Roundtree did land a vicious shot that cut Silva in the round, but it was nothing serious. Once again Roundtree was able to land more strikes at a higher percentage and I feel he won the round 10-9, but Silva at least put up a better fight. I have the fight scored 20-18 in favor of Roundtree after two rounds.
Both of these guys slowed down in the third and you could see what kind of grueling toll this fight has taken on the both of them. Silva clinched early and Roundtree and both fighters seemed to be alright with resting in the clinch. It seemed as the clinch would get broke the fighters would find a way to lock back up almost as if they were magnets. With about two and half minutes left in the fight the last clinch was broke, but both fighters still seemed sluggish and tired. Roundtree once again got the better of the lazy striking and I had to give him the round 10-9. I have it 30-27 and so does all three judges. The winner of the fight by decision Cap Roundtree, another loss for this guy and I am still down over twenty five hundred.
Main Card Bout Number 3- Bantamweight Title Fight (135lbs)
Ethan "Captain Insaneo" Harris defeats Gabriel "DaBeast" Douglas
I was so ready to see this fight I was thinking this was going to be one of the best fights on the card. The first round however did not live up to my expectations. Douglas seemed that he would do anything to avoid the clinch, but Harris locked him up against the cage anyway. Harris landed a nice elbow cutting Douglas as Douglas struggled to break the clinch. Gabriel was unable to break the clinch and Harris landed a few more elbows so it was the champs round 10-9.
Round two was all Douglas as he avoided the clinch and landed some big time shots. He was able to drop the champ to one knee at one point of the round. Harris kept looking for the clinch but Douglas kept resisting and using body and head shots to make Harris pay. This was a clear round for the challenger 10-9 and I now have the fight 19-19. Now it is starting to live up to my expectations.
Douglas came out swinging in the third round like a wild man. He did connect on a few one of which split Harris open. Harris showed his heart though and did not allow the cut to affect him at all. Harris was able to lock up with Douglas and he went back to work with the elbows as Douglas struggled once again to break the clinch. Harris was able to hold on to the clinch for over four minutes and land several elbows so even with the cut I gave the round to Harris. 10-9 for the round and 29-28 in favor of the champ for the fight.
Douglas and Harris looked slow in the fourth as the fight was wearing on both of them. Douglas was avoid the inside fight at the beginning and landing some average punches. Harris was able to lock Douglas down with a clinch once again and the round was over for Douglas. Douglas once again struggled in the clinch as Harris landed elbows at will. Another round for the champ 10-9 and I have it 39-37 for Harris.
I think Douglas needs to dominate the round completely or get a finish which he struggle to do. Harris grabs onto Douglas in the opening seconds of the round and we are right back to the same thing. Douglas cannot break the clinch and Harris keeps landing elbows. Harris did break Douglas’s cut open more in the round, but both fighters I think where to tired to finish the other. Harris won the round with ease 10-9 and I scored the fight 49-46 for Harris. All the judges concur and Harris retains the title and I have predicted another fight incorrectly.
Co Main Event Main Card Bout Number 4- Light Heavyweight Title Fight (205lbs)
Diego Russell defeats Khru "Big Buddah" Maokhamphiou
The big question was not who was going to win, but if somebody was going to win. The Light Heavyweight Title got held up after their last fight as it ended in a draw. Russell seemed to be more aggressive in this fight and Khru was not able to do much. Russell took Khru down and looked to advance but Khru was able to control long enough to get the fight stood back up. Russell took the fight right back to the ground though and was able to lock in a kimura and Khru was forced to tap out at 3:35 of the first round. I did not think the fight would be this short and I thought TKO not submission but a win is a win. I get my five hundred back plus four fifty two and thirty eight cents. That will raise my total to being down only one thousand six hundred and thirteen dollars and forty cents. I cannot break even at this point but I can lower my losses with a win in the next one to a decent amount.
Main Event Main Card Bout Number 5- Welterweight Fight (170lbs)
Bobby "The Next Big Thing" Shamrock defeats "Veliki" Ljuti Hrcak
I don’t think I have made it a secret that Bobby Shamrock is my favorite fighter in Honor Fighting Championship but if you didn’t know now you do. I was rooting for Shamrock to get this win and I was betting on it. I thought Bobby would have some difficulty putting Hrcak away, and I predicted it to happen in the third round. Boy was I wrong as early in the first round Shamrock knocked Hrcak to the ground and dove on top. Hrcak recovered nicely and Shamrock stood up. Once again though Shamrock put Hrcak down with another shot to the head and jumped on top again. This time Hrcak went for a submission but Bobby was able to defend it and get back to his feet. Shamrock laid Hrcak down again and this time when he jumped on top he was able to get the TKO stoppage. Shamrock wins by TKO at 2:18 of the first round and I think he will be getting a title shot soon. Obviously I won this one so I get my five hundred back plus two thirty five twenty nine which brings me to losing only eight hundred and seventy eight dollars and eleven cents which is my lowest loss to date.
