 Evil Empire Throwdown 11 PREVIEW

Welcome back to another fine Evil Empire Throwdown event. We only have a few fights to look at righ now, but remember, it's not the size of the event it's the concussive force of the strikes! Lets get it going guys.

170 lbs “One for the road” Rab Rehab 22-16 vs Carter Martin 3-0

This will be the first real test for the inexperienced Martin. He seems like he might be a better striker than his more experienced opponent, but the transition to Evil Empire level MMA might be daunting. Rehab is one of those fighters who is always in there to finish. Of his 38 pro fights only 3 have gone to decision. I expect him to keep that up. Someone will get finished here. I have to go with the young talent here.

Prediction: Martin by (T)KO

205 lbs Ollie Ritch 10-12 vs “Boondock” Huey Freeman 15-15

Both of these veteran fighters come in at or just below the .500 mark in their records. Both also come in with 3 fight losing streaks. One of these guys has to turn it around, at least for the short term. Freeman has never established much of a threat outside of his high level BJJ. If he can show more he can be a force, but that is the story of his career and many other specialists. Ritch is more of a well rounded fighter and has some legitimate boxing skills. Like most of Freeman's fights, this will all come down to whether or not he can get the takedown. I think he'll manage it this time.

Prediction: Freeman by Sub

170 lbs Alexander “Russian Vityaz” Povetkin 24-13-1 vs “Bright Eyes” Arthur Pandora 27-28

I think Povetkin should be a heavy favorite in this one. Pandora is a veteran and a tough fighter, but I just don't think this is a good matchup for him. He stands a puncher's chance in the standup I suppose and could end it if it goes to the ground. Povetkin is just too good to let that happen. Povetkin's striking is as good as ever after a 3 fight stint in the deceased KT division (RIP) and his wrestling is always crisp. I expect a beatdown.

Prediction: Povetkin by (T)KO

185 lbs Charlie Krauthammer 3-0 vs Randy “The Rocker” Slader 10-5

Slader may be three years younger, but he is 12 fights older than his inexperienced opponent. Krauthammer looked beastly in his fight last week and will be looking to ride the momentum from that knock out into this bout. Krauthammer will be looking to take this to the ground so he can use his BJJ and ground and pound to finish the fight. Slader will be looking to keep it on the feet at all costs and go for the knock out standing. This is a potential fight of the night right here. I think Krauthammer has a good chance to see his first setback.

Prediction: Slader by (T)KO

135 lbs CHAMPIONSHIP! Barney Rubble 21-7 vs “Mr. GO TO SLEEP” Tyler Brooks 22-11

Guys? Is this deja vu? Barney Rubble is making his first title defense against Tyler Brooks, after winning the title against Alberto Lopez. I swear we've seen this before. Strange. Maybe I'm just tired. Anyway, Rubble looks like he should handle Brooks with his striking. Brooks is good on the ground though and could come out with the win in his second matchup with Rubble. Last time they fought Rubble won the decision. I think he'll do enough to put away his opponent this time around. Just watch out for the next Lopez fight if this deja vu this is real! Ground hog day has nothing on Rubble...

Prediction: Rubble by (T)KO

Alright y'all. It's been real. Folgers out.
