Event Preview: WFL FN 2- Rostowski vs Jaffer
Warrior Fight League
2014-04-09, Helsinki, The Underground - Helsinki
Author:Josh James

 WFL Fight Night 2 is a go! Live from The Underground in Helsinki, the WFL brings us another fantastic event, headlined by two of the top Featherweights on the roster! I am very excited for this event personally, so without further ado, let’s get into it:

Preliminary Bout #1- Middleweight Fight (185 lbs)

Uzmanov Kiri (1-0) {0-0} versus #5 Doug Pattersson (2-0) {1-0}

We have a heck of a fight to kick off our card, as ranked middleweight Doug Pattersson battles newcomer Uzmanow Kiri. Folks, Doug Pattersson is a real prospect at 185. The guy has a strong wrestling base, and at just 19 years old, he already has 2 KO victories under his belt. However, Pattersson may have taken this fight a little too early in his career. Kiri is a tough and very similar fighter, except better wrestling. Nonetheless, this bout will come down to who can get on top and say there. I think Kiri starts off well in this one, but eventually Pattersson gets on top and bombs away with his vicious ground and pound en route to a 3rd round TKO.

Preliminary Bout #2- Heavyweight Fight (265 lbs)

Kim Jong Un (7-13) {0-0} versus Gary Stilies (5-5) {0-1}

“The Sting Ray” Gary Stilies had a disappointing debut, but the young boxer will look to bounce back against Kim Jong Un. Un prefers to rely on his very strong grappling game, which has led him to 6 submission victories, and that happens to be Stilies weakness. However, Stilies is a rock solid boxer, and Un has been KO’d a whopping 8 times. I don’t think that adds up well for him, and I have Stilies by 1st round KO.

Preliminary Bout # 3- Heavyweight Fight (265 lbs)

Greg Joll (4-4) {2-4} versus Valera Kamenskiy (8-16) {1-1}

Two vets enter this battle looking to get a run going. Joll may just be 2-4 in the WFL, but trust me when I say he is much better than that, as he has faced tough competition. In this fight, Joll looks to have the grappling advantage, while Kamenskiy may want to keep in standing, however both men are well rounded. I see this one ending by Greg Joll submission in the 2nd round.

 Main Card Bout #1- Welterweight Fight (170 lbs)

Holy Diver (9-13) {1-0} versus Arn De Gothia (3-1) {0-0}

I must say, Arn de Gothia is one of the most talented fighters I’ve ever seen at 20 years of age. He has decent standup combined with very high level grappling. Meanwhile, Diver’s one advantage in this fight is his wrestling, however it’ll be tough for him to utilize that without being submitted. I really have a hard time seeing how Diver pulls this one out, so I have De Gothia by 2nd round Submission.

Main Card Bout #2-  Featherweight Fight (145 lbs)

#4 Octavio Ramos (9-4) {1-0} versus Jaromir Jag (29-47-2) {0-1}

This exciting featherweight bout marks the much anticipated return of Octavio Ramos. Ramos has been out of action since the first of February, when he impressed the MMA world with a 3rd round TKO of the talented Mr Rouge. Jag, meanwhile, is one of the most experienced fighters you will ever see, having almost 80 fights on his record. Unfortunately for Jag, the only way I see him winning is by holding Ramos down without being submitted, and that will be tough. I see Ramos winning in the 2nd round by TKO.

Main Card Bout #3- Light Heavyweight Fight (205 lbs)

Brad May (2-0) {1-0} versus Kevin Stevens (4-2) {3-2}

The former title challenger Stevens has hit a rough patch, losing two fights in a row, both in under a minute. However, “The Grinder” has a shot a turning things around when he takes on one of the best young strikers you will ever see in Brad “Mayday” May. This one is a classic striker versus grappler matchup. In my opinion, “Mayday” may be focusing on his striking a little too much, and perhaps has neglected his defensive wrestling. For this reason I have the grappler Stevens winning by first round sub.

Co Main Event- Heavyweight Fight (265 lbs)

#4 Rsghrhr Hrjgjsjs (5-0) {1-0} versus #5 Bubba James (9-15) {1-0}

A pair of top flight heavyweights will meet in the card’s co main event to decide who takes a major step up on the heavyweight ladder. Hrjgjsjs is a real prospect, finishing all of his fights thus far in his career. James, meanwhile is a well rounded vet, but he will definitely look to keep things standing here. James’ weakness he has showed throughout his career has been his submission defense, and I think that shows again as Hrjgjsjs gets the 1st round sub.

Main Event- Featherweight Fight (145 lbs)

#2 Andrzej Rostowski (15-16) {4-2} versus James Jaffer (17-6-1) {0-0}

I must say, I am extremely excited for this contest. Rostowski, one of the most popular fighters in the WFL, will look to complete his charge back to the top against the former CEFC Featherweight Champion in James Jaffer. Jaffer, competing in his much anticipated debut, is one of the most well rounded fighters you will see. He has high level boxing, along with a world-class ground game, his strength being his wrestling. Meanwhile, the loyal WFL fans already know what Rostowski is all about. Affectionately referred to as the “Polish Submission Machine” by many, Rostowski has an overwhelming BJJ game. This a very fun matchup and a true toss up. I see Jaffer winning the first two rounds, but then I see Rostowski pulling out a shocking third round submission, and in doing so, earning a third shot at the WFL featherweight Title.
