HONOR Fighting Championship
2014-04-19, Las Vegas, Hard Knocks - Las Vegas
Attendance:3,000, Event Rating:232
Author:Tony Rossi

Tonight we have a loaded card for you featuring a Bantamweight Title fight and of course the man everyone is paying to see Thomas Boothe. Tonight’s event will also have only two fighters making their debuts to Honor Fighting Championship and we will have nine fighters who have yet to take a HFC loss. This is truly a great line up of fights and don’t be surprised if he spring board back into the top thirty. We will start the night off with a fighter who submitted one of my own in his professional debut.

Preliminary Bout Number 1- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)

Ayrton "BigFoot" Silva (1-0) {1-0} versus Javier Lopez (0-0) {0-0}

Silva is one and o after he got a quick submission victory in his first fight just a few days ago. He was able to catch a little lightning in a bottle and Silva was lucky he was matched against a wrestler. This time he does not have the match up on his side and he will need to work to get the fight to the ground. Lopez will be making his debut not only to HFC but this will also be his first professional fight. The scouting report says he is a great puncher in and out of the clinch but he should avoid the clinch at all possible. It could leave the window open for Silva to pull guard and we have seen what he can do from his back. I think Silva will get this fight to the ground one way or another and then he will secure the submission victory in the late first round.

Preliminary Bout Number 2- Featherweight Fight (145lbs)

Quagmire "Ohh" Yeah (3-1) {3-0} versus Dallas "Haneous" Riley (29-23) {3-2}

Yeah is three and one in his career and he has won all three of his fights here in Honor Fighting Championship. This nineteen year old blue belt relies a lot on his wrestling to not only get fights to the ground but to also get into the best position for a submission hold. Riley is very experienced as he has had over fifty pro fights. He is a purple belt and he prefers the ground work. Not only does he prefer the ground game but he has more submission victories than Yeah has had fights. Obviously this fight is going to the ground but the question will be is Yeah’s wrestling good enough to keep himself from getting submitted? I think it is and I am picking Yeah to win by submission in the second round.

Preliminary Bout Number 3- Bantamweight Fight (135lbs)

Floyd "Power" Howard (15-7) {0-0} versus bj "Boogieman" Ferguson (30-18) {2-3}

Howard is coming off a loss after he enjoyed his longest winning streak of his career with five straight wins. That loss took him down to a record of fifth teen and seven and all of his wins have come by submission or decision as this wrestler loves to be on the mat. Ferguson is much more experienced but he has not enjoyed the same success that Howard has lately. Ferguson is past the prime of his career but this is more than a winnable fight for him. This one should come down to who can get the better positioning on the ground and I am going to give it to the younger Howard. I don’t think either guy submits the other but be prepared for fifty plus submissions if this one goes the distance like I think it will.

Preliminary Bout Number 4- Bantamweight Fight (135lbs)

Sun "Kakarot" Wukong (6-2) {4-1} versus Steve "Cobra" Cox (5-0-1) {5-0-1}

This is one of the fights I am most looking forward to. Wukong is four and one in Honor and the nineteen year old has submitted two opponents and TKO’ed the other two. Wukong will finish you if you give him the slights opportunity. Cox has yet to taste defeat in his young age. He doesn’t have a perfect record though as he does have one draw looming over his record. I think that the draw was actually better for his career though as he has been much more aggressive. Since the draw he has had two fights and those two fights are the only finishes he has had in his career. These two are almost identical but Cox does have the advantage when it comes to wrestling and because of that I am picking him to win by submission in the second round.

Preliminary Bout Number 5- Welterweight Fight (170lbs)

Vedran Milosevic (4-1) {4-1} versus Rickson Bravo (7-5) {2-1}

Milosevic can stand and strike or grapple on the ground. He is a very dangerous fighter but I shouldn’t have to tell you that since he has had all of his fights right here in Honor Fighting Championship. He will be in an uncomfortable situation in this one though as his four fight win streak will be in danger. The only advantage that Milosevic will enjoy in this one is better wrestling but since Bravo is a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu he may want to stay away from the ground. Bravo has not had a terrific career so far as he is just seven and five. Six of those seven wins have come via submission though as he likes to use what he calls a raven guard that is different from what we are used to seeing. This is a tough fight to pick but I think I am going to go with Milosevic to win by decision in a very close fight.

Main Card Bout Number 1- Featherweight Fight (145lbs)

Jonathan "The Cheetah" Mvungi (8-5) {1-1} versus "Muharebe Tankı" Murat Orgun (19-14) {0-2}

Mvungi is one and one here in Honor and he would love to get his second win here. To do that he will need to keep this fight standing. Jonathan is a good striker and he has earned all eight of his pro wins by way of TKO or knockout. Orgun has not had any success here in HFC with an o and two record bringing his career record down to nineteen and fourteen. He will want to take this fight to the ground so he can use his brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to take the fight over. I think Mvungi will be able to get the knockout before this fight hits the ground so I am calling him to win in the first round.

Main Card Bout Number 2- Middleweight Fight (185lbs)

Erick Rootmans (9-4) {1-1} versus Jeffrey Sarpong (8-2-1) {1-0-0}

These two have similar records and both of them are trying to climb the ranks of HFC’s middleweight division. Rootmans is nine and four and he has zero submission wins. Clearly Rootmans is a striker but he lacks knockout power as he has four wins by TKO and five wins by decision. Sarpong in eight two and one and he has wins by TKO, submission, and decision so clearly he can do it all. To get the win in this one he will need to get the fight to the ground but Rootsmans does have good takedown defense. This will be a tough fight to call but I think Eric Rootmans edges this one out and wins by decision.

Main Card Bout Number 3- Bantamweight Title Fight (135lbs)

Ethan "Captain Insaneo" Harris (10-2-1) {5-0} versus Isaiah "Vanilla Gorilla" Ferguson (7-0) {1-0}

On to the title fight for the evening as Ethan Harris defends his strap against Isaiah Ferguson. Harris is five and o since arriving in Honor and he has proven to be an iron man with three decision wins that went five rounds. Harris can point you out with ease and he should look to be a bit more aggressive in this one. Ferguson has never been beaten but he has had only one non QFC fight. He has seven wins and each one of them has come by submission so he will want to try and get this fight to the ground where he can grapple with Harris. I don’t think he will be able to submit Harris and the more he tries the more tired he will get. So I got Harris winning by TKO in the fourth round to keep his bantamweight title.

Co Main Event Main Card Bout Number 4- Bantamweight Fight (135lbs)

Tyrion "The Imp" Lannister (15-5) {1-0} versus "Nobushi" Mitsuyo Maeda (28-20) {3-0}

We have not seen much from Lannister as he has had only one fight in HFC. It was a victory that brought his record up to fifth teen and five. He will need to take this fight to the ground since he will be outmatched in the stand up. Getting it to the ground shouldn’t be a problem but winning on the ground could become an issue. Maeda is coming up on fifty fights and honestly he can do anything. He can strike, clinch, ground and pound, submit you or just out point you with grappling. He should look to turn this fight into a kickboxing match up since that is where he will have the big advantage. Honestly I think Maeda has all the tools to beat Lannister, but Lannister is younger and faster so I am picking him to win by TKO in the third round via ground and pound.

Main Event Main Card Bout Number 5- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)

Thomas Boothe (24-7) {1-0} versus Khru "Big Buddah" Maokhamphiou (7-1-1) {3-1-1}

This is what you all have been waiting for. It is the Honor FC return of Thomas Boothe and I know he has had a fight recently but the amount of merchandise of his that has sold is insane. Boothe has twenty four wins and twenty two of them have come by TKO so I expect him to stand in the pocket and throw strikes with Maokhamphiou. Khru is taking a big jump up in competitors in this one. When he showed up here he had a four and o record but he has dropped tat to three one and one. His last three fights he was victorious by TKO in all of them. He will be happy to stand and strike with Boothe but I think Boothe is the better strikers so I will be picking him to win by TKO in the second round.

Well that will do it for me since that was the main event. I hope all of you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. I will see you soon when we do the review of Honor FC 12!
