Event Review: HONOR Wednesday Warfare XII
HONOR Fighting Championship
2014-04-23, Las Vegas, Hayashi's Lounge - Las Vegas
Attendance:2,000, Event Rating:202
Author:Tony Rossi

We had eight fights end in the first round and we crowned a new champion at Wednesday Warfare. It was a great event breaking the two hundred mark in event rating. Another sell out in the books for Honor and a one hell of a night of fights.

Preliminary Bout Number 1- Heavyweight Fight (265lbs)

Jack "The Bottle" Daniels defeats Ayrton "BigFoot" Silva

I knew the only chance Daniels had was to win early but I still put my money on him. There is just something special about him and I can’t quite figure it out yet. With Daniels being only sixteen I do have plenty of time to figure it out. The only thing Silva could do in this fight was miss a few takedown attempts as Daniels was landing punches. Jack split Silva open real early and then like a shark with blood in the water he went in for the kill. A big stiff punch floored Silva and that was more than enough to earn the knockout victory.

Result: Daniels wins by KO (punch) at 0:33 of round number one

Preliminary Bout Number 2- Bantamweight Fight (135lbs)

Coors "Silver Bullet" Light defeats Darco "The Desperado" Goncalves

I gave Light a zero percent chance to win this fight. I figured Goncalves would come out swing hard and knock out the twenty six year old with little to no problems. When the round opened up Goncalves did look to storm Light but some nice defense by Light led to Goncalves only landing one leg kick. Light then score a takedown from the clinch and Darco looked as if he had never been on the mat before. Light landed a few shots and then worked his way into a position that he wanted. From there Light was able to lock on a Kimora to earn himself the Submission of the Night award.

Result: Coors Light wins by submission (Kimora) at 1:55 of round number one

Preliminary Bout Number 3- Light Heavyweight (205lbs)

Derec "The Smile" Negreanu defeats Reginald Leslie

Well I was once again so very wrong when it came to predicting this fight. I thought it would go to round two and I was incorrect and I thought Leslie would be the one getting his hand raised especially if the winner was going to get that W by way of TKO. Leslie came out though looking to counter and Negreanu was having none of it. As Leslie did absolutely nothing Derec just kept pouring on the punches and a big one was able to put Leslie down for the count.

Result: Derec Negreanu wins by KO (punch) at 0:21 of the first round

Preliminary Bout Number 4- Welterweight Fight (170lbs)

Alex "Almighty" Irwin defeats Darc "The Wild One" Von Hayek

Well I may not have gotten the correct round but at least I got the correct fighter in this one. I thought Von Hayek’s defense would have gotten him to at least the second round but Irwin put him on his back right off the bat and Darc looked like a fish out of water. Irwin started working in the transitions all while landing some very effective ground and pound. The strikes where starting to add up and Von Hayek was in bad shape and then he went limp and the fight was stopped. Irwin was able to take home Knock out of the Night Award and a big bonus.

Result: Alex Irwin wins by KO (strikes) at 1:55 of the first round.

Preliminary Bout Number 5- Middleweight Fight (185lbs)

"The Wasp" Wayde West defeats Yoshito "The Snake" Silva

What does West have to do to get a rematch at the title that he lost? Not only did he lose the title and not get a rematch but he lost it to someone he had already defeated, and I want closure and a completion to the trilogy. The only way for West to do that is to simply come out and dominate the competition. In this fight West was able to defend every takedown attempt that came his way and he was able to avoid the clinch game for the most part. West landed a some serious kicks and a big punch sent Silva crashing to the floor. The referee intervened and called a stop to the fight.

Result: Wayde West wins by TKO (strikes) at 1:20 of the first round

Main Card Bout Number 1- Welterweight Fight (170lbs)

Taylor "woob woob woob" Clark defeats Takahiro Jouda

I was not shocked that I was incorrect when I picked the winner of this fight, but I was shocked that it went the distance. The first round could have gone either way. Jouda looked like a joke missing wildly with punches while the two were standing up. Clark landed some nice counters and he put in some work with his kicks. Clark landed a ton of leg kicks which is what slowed Jouda’s take down attempts down I am sure. Takahiro did find to big successful takedowns near the end of the round, and I thought he would have one it, but all the judges scored the round for Clark. Jouda looked terrible again in the stand up in round number two, but most of the round took place on the ground as Takahiro worked some ground and pound and went for a few submissions that where defended nicely. Round three was all Clark as he stopped every takedown attempt that came his way in the last five minutes. Not only did he take the ground game away in the third round but he had taken Jouda’s stand up away from the opening bell. Clark landed some serious kicks in the round but nothing that was close to a finish. Round one could have went either way, round two was all Jouda and round three was all Clark and that made this one great fight to see.

Result: Taylor Clark wins by decision (unanimous) at the end of round number three

Main Card Bout Number 2- Welterweight Fight (170lbs)

"The Impaler" Vladimir Ignatov defeats "Psyhco" Walter Bishop

Well I had The Impaler winning this fight but honestly I thought Walter Bishop would have put up a good fight. Ignatov came out and landed a punch and then went right to the clinch. From the clinch Vladimir threw a flurry of punches that was mixed in with some elbow and knee strikes and one of the punches send Bishop to the ground flailing. He then jumped mount and then he started to let the punches rain down. The referee had to stop the fight as Bishop was no longer intelligently defending himself.

Result: Vladimir Ignatov wins by TKO (strikes) at 3:50 of the first round

Main Card Bout Number 3- Middleweight Title Fight (185lbs)

Kshitij Singh Negi defeats Donovan "Ronin" Robertson

I will not lie to anyone here and I have to say I was really rooting for Robertson. I like Robertson and I think he has the potential to become a great fighter. That’s not the reason I wanted him to win though, I really wanted to see Robertson versus West three. Please Dan make this happen even though it can’t be for the title now because I need conclusions. In this fight Robertson did not seem like himself. Negi locked a clinch to start the fight and Robertson was too concerned about getting out of the clinch he forgot about everything else. Negi was landing elbows while Robertson was just trying to get away. Donovan did not connect with a strike inside the clinch and he failed on his only takedown attempt all while Negi continued to blast away at him. A knee dropped the champion and some punches finished him off.

Resluts: Kshitij Singh Negi wins by TKO (strikes) at 1:55 of the first round

Co Main Event Main Card Bout Number 4- Lightweight Fight (155lbs)

Riley Cooper defeats Mac Hansen

So this is a rematch and we all seen Hansen knockout Cooper at the end of the first round in their first fight. Hansen was dominated in the last bout and all signs pointed to him being just as dominate. Cooper had other plans as he scored a quick takedown to start the first round. As soon as these two fighters hit the mat Cooper started working on Hansen’s arms and after one failed attempt he was able to lock in a submission and force a tap out.

Result: Riley Cooper wins by submission (Kimora) at 1:56 of the first round

Main Event Main Card Bout Number 5- Middleweight Fight (185lbs)

Richard Hickock defeats Dexter Morgan

Morgan came out and made this fight all about him. He was successful in landing a few takedown attempts and then from the ground he started working submissions and ground and pound. Richard would find a way to get back to his feet just to have Morgan take him down and pound on him. Dexter Morgan was crushing for a decision win after the first round. The second round was completely different as Hickock locked up a clinch and he stopped every takedown attempt that came his way. Morgan was desperate to get the fight back to the ground but Hickack was having none of it. Once the clinch was broke Richard kept going for it and Morgan would circle away. Hickock timed it out and landed a head kick that floored Morgan, Hickock followed Morgan down and he continued to strike as the referee came in to stop the fight. These two got to take home Fight of the Night awards and an awesome bonus.

Result: Richard Hickock wins by TKO (strikes) at 1:24 of the second round.

I hope you enjoyed the review and honestly I hope you enjoyed the fights a little bit more than the review. I will see you all later for the big preview of tonight’s event.
