BFT-95 - Miller vs Alves...History in the making

Event Preview: BFT-95 - Miller vs Alves
Blunt Force Trauma
2012-04-14, Sydney, The Bridge
Author:Antonius Proximo

Greetings to all...it is I, Proximo…matchmaker extraordinaire, with an announcement worthy of the attention of the gods.  Our fine organization has been silently providing spectacles for the masses for years now but that is no more.  I am here to present to you an extravaganza that would rival the bloodiness of the ancient Colosseum.  Three title fights on the card and 20 hungry warriors ready for battle will readily satisfy the legendary bloodlust of the Sydney crowds.  Without further ado, here are the participants and matchups:

Undercard

"The Assassin" Drasek Riven (7-5 / 3-3 BFT) vs. Bee J "Prodigy" Ping (8-4 / 1-2 BFT)

Starting off this historic card is the fight between Drasek Riven and Bee J Ping.  Riven is on his 2nd stint here with BFT and has proven his skills in the submission game.  Ping is a relative newcomer to BFT with experience in other Sydney orgs.  Ping has a more diversified game than Riven and this match could go either way.

Chad "Bull" Bugasto (10-6 / 10-5 BFT) vs. Legionarivs "Apocolyptic" Sakara (5-1 / 3-1 BFT)

Bugasto is a crafty BFT vet that keeps finding ways to win.  He will have his hands full with Legionarivs, an ex-pro boxer with 3 1st round KO/TKO stoppages in his last 4 fights.

"Kana" Kuroda Atsushi (10-2 / 2-1 BFT) vs. Malaipet "The Diamond" Sasiprapa (7-5-1 / 0-0 BFT)

Atsushi is also on his 2nd stint with BFT and looks to follow up his victory over Manny Pacquiao with a win over newcomer Malaipet The Diamond.  Sasiprapa is a former Rajadamnern stadium champion, so you know his Muay Thai credentials are legit.  Malaipet started off his career with 4 straight losses but has then rebounded with 6 straight wins to get into BFT.  This is his 7th org in MMA, so jitters on a bigger stage should not be a factor.

Mateus Gracie (11-4 / 8-3 BFT) vs. "The Dime" Ken Tentheros (6-2 / 6-2 BFT)

Gracie is, of course, a Gracie BJJ black belt and looks to carry on the Gracie name here in MMA.  He started off his career in BFT, before moving on to other Sydney orgs and has a beast of an opponent in Ken Tentheros.  Gracie looks to be outclassed in all areas except the ground but Tentheros has shown in the past that he is not unbeatable.

Hagen "The Barbarian" Germanicus (11-4 / 11-4 BFT) vs. Dustin "Power" Super (16-8 / 10-4 BFT)

This is the rubber match between Hagen the Barbarian and Dustin Super...Super is the current 265+lb champion for War FC in Tokyo and has agreed to appear here at BFT-95 for the defining match in their trilogy.  Super ran off an impressive string of KOs during his time in BFT and we are glad that he has obliged us with another appearance here.  Hagen showed overwhelming power himself in his earlier fights but hasn’t shown his power as of late.  He finally got a TKO stoppage in his last fight, a rematch against Buhju Banton, but it was a grueling 3 round affair.  Expect standup fireworks here, as neither man has ambitions to take it to the ground.

Main Card

Tap Out (14-5 / 12-4 BFT) vs. Unisa "Nyota" Kalifa (7-1-1 / 3-0 BFT)

Tap Out is a long time BFT veteran and the current champion at 205lbs.  He is facing young upstart Unisa Kalifa in his second title defense.  Like de Souza at 185lbs, Tap Out is equally comfortable on the feet or on the ground.  Kalifa has also shown technical brilliance in both areas but it will be a tough task for him to overthrow the BFT veteran.

Steve "The Tank" Tompkins (7-1 / 7-1 BFT) vs. Laguna Lunaris (6-0 / 6-0 BFT)

Another title fight on the card...this time at 265lbs.  Tompkins took the 265lb strap by defeating David Summers back at BFT-83 after long time champ Jake the Snake went MIA.  This will be his first title defense against fast rising star Laguna Lunaris.  I'd say that Tompkins has the advantage here but Lunaris has not failed to surprise to date in his improbable title run.

Mark "Clisham" Edwards (10-2-1 / 10-2 BFT) vs. Pascal "Iron Balls" Lesveque (8-3 / 4-2 BFT)

Edwards vs. Lesveque is going to be a standup affair, as far as I can see.  Someone is going to be KTFO before the end of the night and I don’t see this one turning into a snoozer, as it is in neither of their temperaments.

"Death Clutch" Thiago de Souza (23-8 / 6-0 BFT) vs. Akihito "Rikiya" Tatsuhiko Jr (13-5 / 6-3 BFT)

de Souza is the current champion at 185 lbs and is slated to fight ground and pound specialist Tatsuhiko Jr in a 3 round non-title affair.  de Souza is a well rounded fighter with just as many wins coming by submission as by KO/TKO.  He has not lost to date in BFT and Tatsuhiko Jr would do well to get it to the ground and pound him out or else it will be a short night for him.

Matt "Takedown" Miller (10-0 / 10-0 BFT) vs. Guilherme "Buscape" Alves (14-2 / 13-1 BFT)

Finally...we get to the main event.  This fight has been ages in the making...Matt Miller is the current 155 champion and has been on a collision course with Guilherme Alves, the current 170lb title holder.  Both of these competitors are homegrown BFT guys and they've been rumored to meet on numerous cards in the past but it has not come to fruition...until this event.  Miller plans to take Alves out on the feet or in the clinch and has the capability, as evidenced by his 9 wins by KO/TKO.  Alves has proven himself to be a sub specialist, with 11 of his 14 wins coming by submission.  Both men are eager to make a point and prove their dominance over the other.  Saturday night, we shall all see who the superior champion is...

Now…I’m off to see a man about some giraffes.  See you tomorrow night and may you all be entertained!
