Slugfest preview

Event Preview: RFC 1 Satuday Slugfest
Royal Fighting Championship
2014-06-28, Sydney, Paddy O'Malley's - Sydney
Author:Jake LeBeau

Royal Fighting Championship is making it's promotional debut at Paddy O'Malleys in the beautiful city of Sydney; we have a great mix of experienced vets and hungry young fighters looking to make a splash in the world of MMA on the card. Personally I am very excited and I'm anxious to see how well the fans, fighters, and most importantly the managers respond!

Johnny "Stark" Winter (1-1) vs Carlos "Mohawk" Castanha (0-4)

The first fight of the night is between a coupld of fantastic strikers in the middlewight division. Castanha is winless in his career but has put together four very entertaining fights. His opponent Winter was exposed on the ground in his last fight as he lost by Kimura, submission defense shouldn't be a problem for him in this one seeing as how Castanha is a white belt. I expect this to be a great stand up battle between two hungry young fighters. The power and the granite chin of Winter should be the difference in this fight.

Prediction: Winter via (T)KO round 1

Johnny "On The Ropes" Hopes (2-0) vs Rich "White" Ghost (1-1)

Ghost lost his latest outing via decision but he was able to prove one thing, he is a tough out. Nothing is going to come easy for Hopes in this one despite his advantage in the stand up game. If Ghost is able to get this one to the ground I beleive he has the ability to finish, however Hopes is very tough and shown an ability to control the fight and bring it into his world.

Prediction: Hopes via UD

Tyreee "Teddy" Williams (1-0) vs Maximillian Halladay (0-1)

Halladay is a great wrestler who comes into this fight with a submission loss to his record, he is facing off gainst Williams; who is a muay thai specialist. I expect Halladay to attempt to take this to the ground early and in the process I believe Williams will look to counter and use his KO power to deliver vicious strikes and stop this one early.

Prediction: Williams via (T)KO round 1

Gary Opdauhl (0-0) vs "The Russian Sickle" Alexi Lihakovich (6-2)

Lihakovich comes into this one with a ton of fight experience against a man who is making his professional debut. Opdauhl does have an impressive set of skills and should be able to force Lihakovich into a war, however Alexi has great cardio and has knocked out four of his opponents in the past. I expect Opdauhl to be very enetertaining in his debut but fall short against the much more experienced fighter, still I think Gary will go on to do great things within RFC.

Prediction: Lihakovich via (T)KO round 2

Johnny "Jenga" James (2-0) vs Terry Opdauhl (0-0)

Terry; like his brother; is making his professional debut today and comes in with an impressive background in muay thai. He faces off against a dangerous prospect in Johnny James who looks to stay undefeated after finishing both of his prior opponents. This is a classic striker vs wrestler match up as James will look to take this to the ground and Terry will look to use his knees and elbows to win the fight. I also expect Terry to be competitive but fall short against the more experienced fighter, though his muay thai could score him a flash KO. You never know in MMA right?

Prediction: James via Sub round 2

Cacio "The Gargoyle" Aristides (2-0) vs Larry Hoover (2-0)

A couple of fantastic wrestlers here who will look to grind it out and out grapple one another to catapult their way towards the top of the division. I expect an absolute ground war between these two fighters, Hoover is better with is submission game but he does tend to cut easily. This makes the ground and pound of Cacio even more dangerous acould open his opponent up and win by TKO. I suspect that whoever ends up in top control will take this one, however I do give the advantage to Aristides due to his superior strength.

Prediction: Aristides via (T)KO round 1

Ze "Death Frog" Paulino (3-0) vs Szymon "Mlot" Piechnicki (2-6)

Interesting fight here as Pichnicki brings a lot of experience and stand up ability to the fight, however his opponent is an incredibly talanted ground fighter and I see him being able to bring this one to the ground and finish it there.

Prediction: Paulino via Sub round 1

Brabo "Anaconda" Garcia (7-3) vs Kennan Hudson (2-1)

Garcia brings a lot of athleticism and technical ability into the cage, he has fought all over the world and should be able to use his well rounded skills to give Hudson all he can handle. Hudson is an incredibly young fighter who has a bright future, he is great on the ground and could certianly use his superior wrestling to control this fight on the ground. I do see the speed and experience of Garcia being a bit too much for the youngster.

Prediction: Garcia via (T)KO round 1

"The Swedish Chef" Sven Larsson (20-12) vs "The Meatgrinder" Pertii Silsa (11-9-1)

Both of these men look to get their careers back on track here in the RFC, they each have great stand up ability and a ton of power to boot. I expect them to come out swinging hard and finish this fight early. Larsson has had some issues with his chin lately and I expect that to be an issue here in this fight as Silsa is a knockout artist who is nearly impossible to finish.

Prediction: Silsa via (T)KO round 1

I would like to wish everyone good luck and hope and for a great night of fights, we are expecting a sell out in our debut so let's put on a show! Just so you know there will be 3 bonus awards, Sub, KO, and Fight OF The Night, each award will be worth 2,500 so go out there and get those bonuses!
