RFC will take its popular Friday Fight night series to The Underground in Sydney as it looks to sell out another event in front of the best MMA fans in the world. This even features some of the most entertaining guys in the city and will host two title competitive title fights.
Szymon "Młot" Piechnicki (3-8) vs Jonny "Beast" Perry (4-1)
Our first fight of the night is in the heavyweight division. "Mlot" is making his debut as a heavyweight fighter, and will look to use his advanced striking game to take out the talented wrestler Jonny Perry. Perry will want to take this fight to the ground where can finish the submission prone Piechnicki. I do think that "Mlot" has enough in him to keep this fight standing and out strike Perry.
Prediction: Piechnicki (T)KO Round 2
Alex James (0-0) vs Johnny "On The Ropes" Hopes (4-1)
James is making his professional debut against the talented Hopes. Hopes is a well rounded fighter that is dangerous on his feet and on the ground. He has also proven to have good cardio and thrived in the third round of decision victory over Rosales. James projects to be a well rounded fighter as well and will have a fairly significant boxing advantage over his opponent. Guys making their debut are always a complete unknown, so I am backing Hopes to pull of a close decision.
Prediction: Hopes UD
Green Pillow (4-2) vs Cold "old" Gold (0-0)
Sadly it appears that Pillow will not be making weight for this fight; this will stall the highly anticipated debut of both of these fighters as Pillow is a proven grinder that pushes every opponent to the brink with great wrestling and cardio. Gold projects to be a good stand up fighter who will put on a show for the fans. If this fight is able to happen I think that Gold will find a way to finish Pillow.
Prediction: NC
Jorge "The Monsoon" Untalan (5-0) vs Nick Cave (10-5)
Untalan has essentially ripped through every opponent he as every faced racking up an undefeated record with every win coming via strikes. He is facing a huge step up in competition as he takes on Nick Cave who has a ton of experience and is no slouch in the striking department himself. Untalans best chance may actually be to take this fight to the ground where Cave has been most vulnerable in the past. However Untalan has never shown much a desire to fight on the ground and this will be a tough battle on the feet. Cave has had many wars in the past and given his experience in these situations I think he will edge out "The monsoon" though Untalan will always have a punchers chance.
Prediction: Cave (T)KO Round 3
Jose "El Taco" Lopez (3-1) vs Eugene House (0-4)
Both of these fighters are making their RFC debut in this middleweight contest. Lopez is coming off of an impressive showing in the latest QFC tournament whereas house has not yet found his first victory. Eugene has great striking and will give Lopez a run for his money on the feet. However "El Taco" should be able to use his great wrestling to keep this on the ground and grind out a decision.
Prediction: Lopez UD
Carlos "Mohawk" Castanha (1-5) vs Tyrell Pain (0-1)
Castanha comes in to this fight riding high from his first ever victory, he is facing off against Tyrell Pain who is making his RFC debut and looking for his first victory as well. These guys are essentially identical as they both love to box, hate to clinch, and use their wrestling to keep the fight standing. This is going to be a very entertaining stand up battle. I believe that the experience of "Mohawk" will see him through in a tight a decision.
Prediction: Castanha UD
Joe "Wellard" Weller (1-1) vs "The Dreamcatcher " Nicolo Avecilla (4-0)
This fight in the featherweight division features two of the better prospects in the RFC. Weller suffered a defeat in his first fight and is taking on a very talented Nicolo Avecilla who is making his highly anticipated debut. Weller is a great wrestler who will want to take Nico down and test him on the ground. "The Dreamcatcher" has phenomenal take down defense and should be able to keep the fight standing where he can use his stone hands to finish the fight.
Prediction : Avecilla (T) KO Round 2
Drake "The Snake" Kartella (4-0) vs Michael Thane (1-0)
These are two of the besr young welterweight fighters in Sydney and they will be competing for the inaugural 170 lb belt here in the RFC. Kartella has much more experience and has dynamite in his gloves; Thane is a great finisher himself and also sports a food wrestling background, though he may want to avoid the ground due to Kartella's bjj advantage. It's a tough matchup for Thane stylistically, combine that with Kartella's propensity for finishing I am making him the favorite, though it will be a tough fight.
Prediction : Kartella (T) KO Round 2
Badussousus "Assholussus" Fatherfockerusus (29-17) vs Sven "The Swedish Chef" Larsson (20-13)
This fight in the open weight division is between two of the most experienced and respected fighters in the RFC. Fatherfockerusus is the former champ who is looking to get back in the title mix after losing his belt, Larsson just recently had his bid for a belt ruined by the current middleweight champion Tarik Gibson. Larsson had a bit more experience and firepower so I am backing hun to pull off a narrow victory.
Prediction : Larsson UD
Brabo "Anaconda" Garcia (8-4) vs "Tabletka Derma" Bariga Kodeinich (19-10)
The main event of the evening is between dominant champion Bariga Kodeinich and top challanger Brabo Garcia. Bravo has an I pressure ground game and will look to take the champ to the ground. Bariga is a very well rounded fighter and should be able to use his explosive athleticism to make it a short night for Garcia.
Prediction : Kodeinich (T) KO Round 2
This will be a great night of fights full of finishes and top quality fights. The Underground is slowly becoming a surefire sell out for the organization and it is no doubt due to the greatness displayed on a consistent basis by the RFC fighters.
