VCC 22

Main Event - Sandor Clegane versus Eddie Kiely (Heavyweight Title)

Over the previous 21 Vanquish events, one fighter has stood out as being THE dominant force in the organisation, that fighter is Sandor Clegane. Clegane (only 22 years of age) had won each of his previous four fights in the organisation, boasting a professional record of 9 wins and 1 loss. It is also important to note that the loss was conceded on his professional debut, meaning Clegane entered this fight looking for a ninth straight win.

His opponent was also a VCC veteran entering his sixth vanquish battle, with a VCC record of 4 wins 1 loss, that singular loss coming by way of fifth round TKO to guess who? None other than Mr Clegane. To rub the salt into the wounds this was also the fight in which Clegane took Kiellys Heavyweight Title. This was Kiellys chance for vengeance and to regain his long lost strap.

The fight was scheduled for five rounds, however two of these were required to reach a result. As always Clegane brought an unbelievably high level of cardiovascular fitness, on the overhand Kiely came in boasting knockout power.

Sadly for the man from Ireland, it was not his knockout power which was to be displayed in the second round, but Cleganes. The first round was a striking battle, in which Clegane clearly got the upper hand landing four times as many strikes as his opponent.
As a result, just 31 seconds into the second round Kiely succumbed to the damage caused by the earlier strikes, as Clegane hit Kiely with a combination which left him seeing stars. As Kiely battled to stay vertical Clegane was able to tag his dizzied opponent with a nuclear powered uppercut to the chin. Fight over. And still Vanquish Heavyweight Champion of the world, Sandorrrrrr Clegane.

Co Main Event - Kezz The Convict versus Rafael Lombard

Both fighters entered the bout unbeaten under the Vanquish banner, and each sporting just one loss in their entire professional careers. Lombard comfortably the under-dog for this fight, being outgunned in all disciplines. Lombard was to rely on his warrior spirit in order to come through this fight with a victory.

The first round was predominantly fought on the ground, setting the scene for the rounds to come. Kezz the Convict landed an early takedown, to which Lombard responded with a flurry of unsuccessful submission attempts. The fight found its way back to the feet, only for Convict to land a second takedown, once again Lombard responded with a submission attempt. The round ended with many spectators in agreement that Kezz The Convict had gotten his nose ahead on the scorecard.

The second round was very similar to the first, however in this round Kezz had a few more submission attempts of his own. Clearly both fighters had come into the bout with a game plan based around making their opponent tap.

Kezzs domination continued in the third round, once again taking the fight to the ground and following this up with relentless submission attempts, however none were successful. By this time Lombard seemed too exhausted to retort with submission attempts of his own, meaning he ended the fight with a very quiet final round. The fight went to the scorecards, 30:26, 30:26 & 30:26, unanimous decision in favour of the favourite, Kezz The Convict. Lombard should truly be recognised for his performance in this fight, lasting all three rounds against a technically superior opponent.

Ville Galle Jr versus Tobias Wall

This main card match up saw two of VCCs most technically superior fighters come head to head. The welterweight division hosts a number of top level fighters, these being two of the leading contenders. With Ville Galle Jr holding the majority of the cards heading into the fight, Wall would be looking to utilise a strong strategic game combined with superior cardiovascular fitness in order to win this fight.

Ville Galle Jr came out swinging, with aggressive use of punching techniques, with the majority of punches thrown landing on his opponent. Wall was thankful to hear the bell at the end of the first round as he seemed to be struggle to shake off a bit shot sustained just after the four minute mark.

However it was clear that Wall had not fully recovered when the two sluggers met once again for round two. It took just over one minute of the second round for Ville Galle to once again find his way through, although it could be said that it was inevitable he would find a way through considering the number of head punches being thrown.

Wall knocked down by a vicious uppercut looked momentarily as though he would be able to recover his wits, however he finally succumbed to Galles vicious strikes.

Gregor Clegane versus Oliver Crown

VCC 22 marked Gregor Cleganes first fight in the Sydney based organisation. In stark contrast to this his opponent, Oliver Crown, entered the event as a Vanquish Combat Club veteran having competed in four previous fights, winning his first three however coming off a loss to undisputed champion, Sandor Clegane.

Clegane was the bookies favourite prior to the fight, despite a questionable professional record. Crown was said to be on thin ice with his manager, with rumours of Crowns manager threatening to threat the heavyweight gladiator if he was to lose his second consecutive fight.

Clegane dominated the first round despite Crown landing the early takedown, clearly looking to great a grappling battle with his much fancied opponent. However, once on the ground Crown utilised superior Jujitsu to most likely claim the points for the round.

The second round mirrored the first, with Crown landing the takedown before Clegane then took over the fight through the use of successful BJJ positioning and transitions. He complemented this outstanding BJJ performance with a strong display of ground striking. One minute or so into the second round Crowns face began to mark up and blood began to seep from the gash opening up above his eye. It seemed for the next couple of minutes that Clegane targeted this nasty looking cut, opening it wider and wider. Eventually the referee asked for the match doctors opinion, and sadly for Crown the fight was stopped.

Clegane was announced winner, via TKO (cuts) 3 minutes 47 seconds into the second round.
